Chapter 131: Night Battle on the Hills

The trade fair was over, and what they wanted had been obtained. Rod and Lucy wandered aimlessly down the streets, with no clear plan yet. Rod was even thinking about that Purple Star VIP card again—the more he thought about it, the more suspicious it seemed. If such a powerful race as the Purple-Winged Thunder Eagles only had one Purple Star VIP card, just imagine how rare it must be. Yet here he was, a first-time visitor to the Source of Darkness, having obtained it so easily. How could this not arouse suspicion?

Dusk was falling, and darkness gradually covered Dark Moon City. The lights along the streets began to glow, marking the arrival of the city’s night market. It was also Rod’s first night in Dark Moon City.

“We should find a place to rest!” After wandering the streets for most of the day, Lucy looked tired and asked Rod.

“Shut up. Follow me!”

But when she turned to look at Rod, she noticed that his expression was different—serious and cold. She had only seen him look like this once before, during the battle against those from the Purple-Winged Thunder Eagles. Her heart skipped a beat; something was wrong. Realizing what was happening, she quickly glanced around.

“Don’t look! Follow me!” Sensing Lucy’s reaction, Rod quickly whispered to her in a low voice so only the two of them could hear.

At that moment, Lucy understood. She wasn’t stupid—on the contrary, she was a smart woman. She knew exactly what to do, so she simply followed Rod forward, maintaining a cheerful demeanor the whole time.

The two walked side by side, passing by busy streets before heading toward the sparsely populated outskirts. There were fewer people around, and the lights grew dimmer. The earlier hustle and bustle gave way to silence. Lucy’s heart raced as the environment changed. She could feel her heartbeat accelerating.

In less than a moment, they reached a dark alley. It was pitch black ahead, so dark that one couldn’t see their own hands, with a chilling atmosphere in the air.

Out of the corner of her eye, Lucy secretly glanced at Rod. His expression was icy cold, and standing beside him, she even felt the temperature drop sharply! Passing through the alleys, the two gradually made their way to a desolate area within Dark Moon City.

Dark Moon City was huge—at least much larger than any towns Rod had seen before, countless times bigger than the capital. Although the demons only had four cities, each one was enormous!

Now, led by Rod, the two had arrived at the foot of a barren hill. Ahead lay a dilapidated mansion, some parts of it even collapsed, clearly uninhabited for a long time. This place could be considered the “wilderness” within Dark Moon City! From the hilltop, one could see most of Dark Moon City. Under the night sky, the city’s lights were dazzlingly beautiful, but here, the situation was completely different!

A gentle breeze blew, carrying rustling sounds that gave a creepy feeling.

“Alright, let’s stay here for the night,” Rod said upon arriving at the small mansion.

“What? No way! You can’t be that stingy! Making me stay here—this place is even worse than…” Lucy exclaimed, eyes wide in disbelief as she stared at Rod. The breeze, combined with the dark mansion and barren hills, created an indescribable, eerie atmosphere that made one’s hair stand on end. Yet Lucy didn’t notice the bloodthirsty smile that appeared on Rod’s lips at that moment.

“Hehe, it’s okay, girl. Once we take care of him, this young master will take good care of you!” No sooner had Lucy finished speaking than a cold, mocking voice came from behind them!

Her heart skipped a beat. Sure enough, something was wrong. She quickly turned around. A few sounds of something cutting through the air followed, followed by rustling movements. In an instant, four figures appeared before them.

“It’s you!” Seeing the man at the forefront, Lucy’s eyes narrowed sharply. Wasn’t this the man who had fought against Rod twice during the day and lost both times? The same seemingly delicate and refined young man.

Rod, on the other hand, had a cold expression, a cruel smile on his lips. The Dark Dragon had appeared in his hand somehow, seemingly unshaken by the situation. His internal fighting energy began to flow slowly, ready to act at any moment.

“That’s right, it’s me. Hehe, after following you for a day, that kid—hand over what you bought today and the Magical Beast Core on you. If I’m in a good mood, I might spare your life; otherwise… hehe…” He looked at Rod with arrogance, declaring that in his eyes, Rod was already like fish on a chopping board, ready for him to slaughter at will. He thought Rod, being so young, couldn’t have much strength, and based on his investigations, Rod wasn’t part of any major faction. For someone like him, the four of them were more than enough.

Turning to Lucy, he said, “Hehe, girl, don’t worry. I’m not the kind who doesn’t know how to cherish beauty. If this idiot doesn’t know how to treat you well, let me do it. Once I deal with this idiot, I’ll take good care of you!” Seeing Lucy’s expression, the young man’s eyes lit up, emitting a faint green glow in the dark environment. His lecherous look sent chills down everyone’s spine.

“Finally, you’ve shown up?” Rod glared coldly at the four of them. He quickly assessed their strengths: one was a mid-stage quasi-divine warrior, one was an early-stage quasi-divine warrior, and another was a mid-stage divine warrior. As for that idiotic young man, he seemed to be at the early-stage divine level! It wasn’t too much of a problem. Although he was also at the early-stage quasi-divine level, he could easily handle that mid-stage divine warrior. With another early-stage quasi-divine warrior to hold them off for a while, it shouldn’t be a problem! After so many trials and tests, Rod had absolute confidence in his strength. Fighting two quasi-divine warriors at once was his first time, but his heart burned with excitement and passion!

Indeed, although Rod was currently at the early-stage quasi-divine level, he far exceeded it in every aspect. At the very least, he could rival an early-stage divine warrior; otherwise, he wouldn’t have been able to kill the elder of the Red Scorpion clan so easily! So fighting two quasi-divine warriors wasn’t a problem, especially since his speed could already surpass that of a mid-stage divine warrior!

As for the two divine warriors, Rod could only hope Lucy could hold on for a while. As long as she could persevere, everything would be fine. The only worry was that she might not be able to hold out!

“It seems you already knew we were tracking you? Hehe, but it doesn’t matter. Your skills aren’t that great—today will be the day you die here. Don’t worry, out of respect for the beautiful lady, I’ll let you die whole!” Rod’s words stunned the young man and the other three slightly, but the young man didn’t care at all. To him, a demon like Rod was nothing but a descendant of a fallen noble!

“Talking won’t do anything! If we’re going to fight, let’s do it! Lucy, it’s your turn this time!” With a cold shout, his aura surged violently—rising from mid-sacred level to late sacred level, still climbing, then to the early quasi-divine level, continuing upward until it finally stopped at the peak of the early quasi-divine level.

Feeling this, the expressions of the people across from them immediately changed.

“Young master!” The old man at the mid-quasi-divine level changed his expression and spoke sternly to the young man beside him.

They had originally thought he was just an insignificant kid, but now he had shocked them—reaching such a level at such a young age, with an aura as fierce as theirs, making them feel challenged! They knew well what such strength at this age meant—it was impossible unless he was from a powerful family. These people were not ones they could afford to offend! Moreover, if he really tried to escape, it would be hard for them to stop him.

“Damn it! Stop talking and attack!” The young man’s previous calm and excited expression vanished instantly. He cursed violently and shouted, “Catch that girl!” Clearly, after seeing Rod’s strength, he focused his attention on Lucy.

“Looking for death!” Before the others could act, Rod shouted and struck first, rushing at the one at the late sacred level.

Without holding back, he unleashed his Sky-Shattering Sword at the fastest speed. His Dark Dragon form swelled dramatically, creating a dark veil that deepened the darkness. Like tearing through the sky, it transformed into a dragon head that charged at the middle-aged man.

Boom… Caught off guard, the middle-aged man couldn’t withstand the terrifying force and was flung backward, spitting out blood—he was already injured. How could he possibly withstand Rod’s domineering attacks so easily? Seeing these people shift their target, Rod also changed his strategy—attacking the weaker ones one by one! As for that young man, it wasn’t yet time to act; the old man was clearly protecting him, and if he intervened, it would give the others a chance to deal with Lucy!

“Damn it!” The young man shouted in anger when one of his allies was injured. It seemed that guy couldn’t continue fighting—how could he not worry without an ally left?
“A San, go catch that little girl for me!” In his urgency, the young man fixed his gaze on Lucy and yelled at the old man beside him. At the same time, he moved closer to another middle-aged man around forty, seemingly intending to work together with him to slow down his opponent.
“Childish!” Rod sneered disdainfully. With a roar, the Dragon Roar erupted, shaking the heavens and earth. Elements surged as it headed straight for the old man.
