Chapter 90: Unwavering Through Life and Death (Part 2) – Together Through All
“Do you insist on this? I’ll give you one last chance! If you choose to hand over that little guy now, I won’t trouble you. For the sake of the treasure and the little guy, I can guarantee you’ll leave safely. If needed, I can also make sure those old guys ahead won’t bother you! I can even help you deal with Sognar—promise he won’t cause you any more trouble!” Taking a deep breath to hide the surprise in her eyes, the woman turned to Rod and spoke in her usual cold tone.
“Unwavering through life and death!” Rod stared at her coldly, channeling his combat energy. His Dark Dragon extended its long fangs, seemingly ready to attack at any moment. Looking at her, Rod firmly uttered those four words. As he said them, scenes flashed through his mind like a movie—starting from when he first obtained the Fire Dragon Egg, through hatching it and merging it with the Soul of the Divine Dragon, then their gradual growth and time together. There was also the moment he first faced danger, when his identity was exposed in that forest and everyone abandoned him. On the brink of death, when he was in despair, Fen Tian appeared, braving the enemy’s strength and shielding him despite his own weakness. And then there were all the times they fought side by side through danger! As these scenes unfolded, a faint smile of satisfaction appeared on Rod’s lips. These were all his memories with Fen Tian—having such a comrade in life was enough to make him die without regret! It had been worth coming here.
“If you protect me, I’ll protect you. We’ll never part, through life or death! Today, we’ll share life, and in death, we’ll rest together!” Taking a deep breath, Rod murmured to himself, his gaze resolute, without the slightest hesitation or regret. Thinking of this, his heart suddenly felt lighter, and a rare smile of satisfaction and confidence appeared on his lips once again.
“Unwavering through life and death!” Hearing Rod’s words, a hint of shock flashed in the woman’s eyes. His firm tone moved her even slightly—the little guy before her brought her more and more surprises!
Initially, she had discovered this little guy and learned that Sognar was hunting him. Her conflict with Sognar was merely because she wanted to oppose him while obtaining the treasure and the little guy in his possession. She never expected this human to be such someone—so steadfast in the face of life and death. This was true friendship. The smile on the man’s face now made her thoughts whirl even more!
A hint of confusion appeared in her eyes. She remembered that someone had said the same words to her many years ago. Those words felt so familiar, yet the person who said them later did it for her own sake… and in the end, he left her! Thinking of this, she felt a pain in her chest, and a sense of hesitation filled her eyes. For a moment, her mood became restless.
“Are you really willing to risk your life for that kid?” She looked at Rod, took a deep breath to calm herself, put aside the past for now, and then asked him. That restlessness gave her a bloodthirsty impulse! That person’s departure was a regret and sorrow that could never be erased! Rod reminded her of that longing buried deep in her memories.
“Life and death are inseparable. If we must fight, then let’s fight. To fear death is not the behavior of a true man!” Rod said proudly, cutting off the woman’s words with a cold snort. At that moment, his battered body seemed to regain its vitality. It seemed as if his life-threatening situation had been forgotten.
“Hmph! It’s easy to die. I’ll fulfill your wish!” Rod’s words enraged the woman. A cold glint flashed in her eyes as her anger surged, and she rushed at Rod with unstoppable force!
With a pfft, a mouthful of blood sprayed out under the pressure of her attack, making her face even paler. But her will remained unshaken!
Her figure surged forward, and in an instant, she disappeared from her seat. The next moment, she reappeared beside Rod, without any warning or trace, leaving him no time to react. He could only stare blankly as her delicate hand neared his body.
“Argh…” Just as Rod was in despair, at this critical moment, a loud cry rang out. Immediately after, a red light flashed, and a huge figure suddenly appeared before his eyes.
Boom… A dull sound came, and instead of the intense pain he expected, he was flung aside, along with a red figure and a muffled groan.
“Hehe, you’ve come uninvited, kid. Do you still dare to show up?” The woman’s cold laughter followed.
“Fentian, what are you doing here? Go back quickly! Now!” Rod opened his eyes and saw Fentian breathing heavily in front of him, protecting him. He was stunned for a moment before shouting anxiously.
At this moment, Fen Tian’s aura was extremely weak! The fierce battle with the Black Dragon had already drained Fen Tian’s energy, and after suffering severe injuries, it had to flee over long distances—now completely exhausted. Its weak aura and blurred form made Rod realize that Fen Tian had reached its limit. If it encountered any further problems, it would truly be finished, perhaps even disappear. The intense gaze of the woman across from them when she saw Fen Tian filled Rod with unease! Fen Tian was in clear danger in her presence; nothing could happen to it.
With a long howl, Fen Tian turned to look at Rod, its eyes showing a hint of human-like tenderness and emotion, along with determination. Then it turned back to stare coldly at the woman who intended to harm its master.
Having evolved to this stage, Fen Tian was no longer just a simple beast soul—it had its own thoughts and consciousness. It understood what was happening and felt moved. At this moment, it was determined to fulfill Rod’s earlier words: “Stay by each other through life and death!”
In an instant, Rod felt Fen Tian’s figure grow enormous, and its aura seemed to return, with its energy surging dramatically.
“Do you really intend to do this?” The woman’s expression remained calm as she stared at Rod and Fen Tian, her eyes flickering constantly. After a long while, she took a deep breath and asked them in a deep voice.
“Never leave each other!” As soon as those words were spoken, Rod struggled to stand up. Even though he knew certain death awaited if things continued like this, and even though there was no chance of survival, he showed no fear.
Watching Rod and Fen Tian’s determination, the woman took a deep breath, hesitating for a long time. Finally, with a sigh, she neither acted cruelly as Rod had expected nor used a killing move that would despair him.
“You… why go to such extremes? I just wanted to take a look at this little guy! Although he’s from the dragon lineage and his soul could bring great benefits to our dragon race, I’m not that guy, Sognar! He’s of the dark element and can embrace and devour everything in the world! I belong to the water element—only the beast souls of water dragons suit me! He’s useless to me!” After sighing, the woman unclenched her fists, retracted her sword with its cold glow, and spoke in a low, gentle voice.
“You…” Those words also stunned Rod and Fen Tian; they never expected such a turn of events! But after a brief moment of shock, their faces were filled with immense excitement—having escaped disaster was indeed a great fortune.
“Very well, I won’t kill you! Rest assured, I won’t devour this little guy either—our constitutions are different! But be careful yourself; there are old beasts in this forest who have already started to take interest in us, not just Sognar!” With a sigh, the woman continued, though her tone now carried a hint of exhaustion.
“Thank you!” With a trace of gratitude in his eyes, Rod bowed and said. It was already a great kindness from her to spare him; he didn’t dare ask for more. As for the others, he couldn’t dwell on them for now—living day by day was enough. Who would prevail in the end was still uncertain. At least, having his life spared meant he still had hope!
On another note, the woman’s words confirmed Rod’s suspicions—she was indeed a member of the dragon race, one who had reached the peak of the divine stage! Only at such a level could a dragon transform into human form with the help of the Transformation Grass and live as a human. This woman was at the pinnacle of the divine stage, at the absolute apex of her cultivation. Such strength was enough to stand atop the continent, unmatched by any other! He never imagined there would be so many powerful beings hidden in this forest. From what she said, there must be several opponents at least as strong as her elsewhere. It was hard to imagine just how formidable the forces here were!
“I must study this little guy. Don’t worry, I definitely won’t harm him. I’ll return him to you in a moment. You don’t need to fight me! If I want to kill him, I don’t need your permission!” She stared deeply at Rod, then stretched out her hand, unleashing a powerful suction force that instantly pulled Fen Tian toward her like a vortex!
Though terrified, Rod wasn’t anxious. As the woman had said, she didn’t need to resort to such tactics—at least not against him! As for Fen Tian, it seemed he sensed no intent to kill, so he simply gave up resistance and allowed her to study him.
The danger was lifted, in an unimaginable way—everyone was happy. After surviving the ordeal, once things settled down completely, his injuries finally flared up due to the relaxation of his mental strain. His vision went dark, and Rod collapsed straight backward, with a faint smile of relief on his face. In his dimming consciousness, he seemed to hear the roar of Furnishing Heaven and the woman’s complaints! But he had no more energy to pay attention to them and fell into a deep sleep.
