Chapter 34: Slaying the Dragon

A glint of cold light flashed in his eyes. With a loud roar, Rod exerted more strength once again, twisting his body and using the momentum of his spin to charge forward, thrusting his sword fiercely at the dragon’s spine.
A wave of coldness rushed toward the dragon’s back of its head. Sensing the immense killing intent behind it, it panicked. Such lethal force made it feel the breath of death. In anger, it roared—being humiliated in front of these wretched humans ignited its fury. It quickly cast a dragon speech spell, pushing the people ahead away before turning swiftly. Before it, the human was now standing in midair, his dark sword aimed straight at its throat!
Its eyes narrowed. That black sword posed a huge threat, emanating a terrifying power that filled it with fear.
It got closer and closer. In the blink of an eye, it was less than a meter away. The human opened his mouth and unleashed a spell, flying swiftly toward Rod.
“Damn it!” Just as success seemed within reach, he was discovered at this critical moment. cursing violently, Rod dared not dodge in midair and instead rushed toward the dragon’s shoulder. If hit by that spell, the consequences would be catastrophic—likely leaving him as nothing but gas.
Seeming to sense the great threat as well, the dark dragon let out a low hum. A dark light flashed by too quickly to see, followed by a wave of coldness. Under the moonlight, its entire body glowed with a faint black light. Driven by its combat energy, it took on a sinister black-red hue.
With a whoosh… Rod felt a sudden lightness in his hand. Even he was stunned. Along with a dull thud, his sword pierced through the dragon’s defensive scales and sank deep into its body, about two-thirds of its length.
Aaaah… Pain forced the dragon to let out a long roar. Its defenses had been broken by a human! An excruciating pain surged through it, and blood seemed to rush toward the black sword. The dragon roared loudly as it jumped around.
The loud roaring continued as its massive body jumped up and down, causing the city walls to tremble like in an earthquake. Even the chaotic ground began to show faint cracks, which spread further with each jump.

Rod tightly grasped the Dark Dragon embedded in Hu Long’s body, his entire body floating with each leap of the giant dragon, like a kite with a broken string struggling in the strong wind, on the verge of falling at any moment. It was a perilous situation. His whole body was covered in the dragon’s blood, and a scorching sensation spread throughout him, as if thousands of insects were devouring him, causing both pain and itching. If he hadn’t held on desperately, he might have already fallen and been crushed by the dragon. Even so, it was terrifying to watch. Driven by pain, the dragon’s eyes turned red. Fueled by rage, all he could think about was eliminating this human who had hurt him—only destruction remained in his mind. He charged recklessly, harming both his own kind and humans, creating chaos everywhere. “Damn… is that the head?” Rubbing his eyes, Curly Hair, who had noticed the situation from afar, couldn’t help but mutter in disbelief and confusion. He had actually injured the dragon! Just an imperial-level warrior, yet he managed to drive his sword so deep so easily? Even a holy-level warrior couldn’t do such a thing, making it hard to believe. Everyone stared in shock as the situation became increasingly strange. “What are you looking at? Go help him now!” Seeing Rod in such danger, Nightingale had no time for awe or admiration. She shouted at everyone and rushed over first. Her heart was in knots, fearing something might happen to Rod. The dragon kept leaping, flapping its massive wings and swinging its claws wildly, trying to knock Rod off or catch him. If that happened, it would be the end for him. “Kill him! Go up now! This is our chance!” The warriors who had been flung away also shouted after a brief moment of shock. Led by that near-divine-level warrior, several of them leaped up and charged at the dragon again. They saw a glimmer of hope, a glimmer of victory! If they won this time, it would undoubtedly be a great achievement. For centuries, dragons had appeared frequently across the continent, but no one could do anything about them. If they could slay a dragon today, it would not only relieve the pressure on defenses and ease the crisis but also earn them a place in history as dragon-slayers of the past century, heroes of Iron Bar Town, and sources of pride for their entire lives!

In an instant, several people charged at the giant dragon desperately, while several warriors in the vicinity also rushed over to assist, hoping to control this enraged dragon and buy time for Rod! Faced with these attacking humans, the dragon was furious—unable to reach those who were above its shoulders, it vented all its anger on them! After all, beasts remain beasts; though not lacking in intelligence, they still think in a simplistic manner. If it had chosen to retreat back to Collins Forest at that moment, everything would have calmed down, and Rod would have been doomed. But instead, it decided to continue fighting, which was undoubtedly putting it half a step into hell. With the addition of several powerful warriors, Rod’s pressure decreased significantly. Seeing that the dragon dared to ignore him at this moment, he breathed a sigh of relief, a cold smile appearing on his lips—opportunity had arrived. Slowly stabilizing himself, he exerted force with both hands, flipped over, and gradually secured his footing on the dragon’s shoulder. Only now, from such close range, could he truly appreciate the dragon’s terror! Each scale was at least the size of two palms, incredibly hard, even harder than metal. This sight shocked Rod, who finally understood why the dragon’s defense was so formidable. The indentation on each scale was just enough to support a person’s weight. With the help of Dark Dragon, Rod managed to stand on its back, panting heavily. The situation earlier had been extremely critical. Thinking about how close he had been to falling, he still felt terrified—any minor accident or moment of relaxation could have meant disaster. Clearly, the enraged dragon seemed to have ignored the people below it; after all, it was still a beast. Though not lacking in intelligence, its way of thinking was simplistic. As it crawled forward, its eyes suddenly narrowed—reverse scales! Yes, right below him were the dragon’s reverse scales! Those light red scales stood out sharply. Thinking about this, Rod pondered silently. If he could flip those scales, the dragon would die, but he wasn’t sure how likely that was. Without a proper weapon, it would be impossible! Although reverse scales were the dragon’s weakest point and its fatal flaw, ordinary weapons might not be enough! Moreover, fighting bare-handed, with Dark Dragon inserted inside the dragon’s body, he surely wouldn’t be able to pull it out again—otherwise, provoking the dragon further would leave him no chance to reach those scales!

“Head, keep going!” A faint voice came through. As Rod was troubled, this voice immediately caught his attention—it was Nightingale’s voice, a very familiar one! Although it was the first time Nightingale had addressed him this way, it surely was him!
Turning his head, he saw a pure white dagger flying swiftly toward him! In the chaos, the small dagger was hardly noticeable and didn’t draw the dragon’s attention.
A faint smile appeared on his lips. He used the dagger that flew toward him, silently thinking of Nightingale, and tightly grasped it as he slowly moved toward the dragon’s weak spot.
With this dagger, his chances of success greatly increased—it was better than fighting bare-handed.
Seemingly noticing Rod’s actions, the people below fought even harder, drawing the dragon’s full attention to themselves. Wave after wave of fierce attacks left the dragon with no chance to catch its breath!
Many in the distance noticed what was happening here, holding their breath as they watched the chaos unfold on the battlefield.
Three meters, two meters! Soon, they were just one meter away! The dragon still hadn’t noticed Rod’s movement! Its dragon scales were thick and solid, further reducing its sensitivity.
At this distance, Rod’s eyes flashed with cold intensity. He took a deep breath, suddenly exerted force from his feet, and thrust the dagger sharply downward beneath the weak spot.
In an instant, he felt the dagger pierce into the gap before pulling it upward with force.
A heart-wrenching scream echoed through the air as blood sprayed everywhere. The dragon, as if struck by a severe shock, began jumping violently, ignoring the attacks from the others. It writhed in agony, rolling on the ground.
A clear “ting” sound came as the dagger broke under the dragon’s struggles. Rod nearly fell backward but managed to grab onto Dark Dragon, allowing himself to hover in the air again and stabilize himself.
Although the weak spots were considered the weakest defenses, they were only so compared to the other scales. If they were truly that easy to break, how could the dragon still be so powerful?
The dagger was broken, but the dragon wasn’t dead—it still had the strength to fight. Anxiously, Rod drew out Dark Dragon, resolved himself, and suddenly pushed off with force, using Dark Dragon to launch another attack at the weak spot amidst the dragon’s agonized roars.

Only the Reverse Scales were in sight, and the distance was getting closer! With a puff… in the blink of an eye, a muffled sound was heard. Immediately afterward, it was lifted upward, and under everyone’s gaze, the Reverse Scales were boldly flipped up before being thrown into the air!
