Chapter 7
With one minute left in the first quarter, Zhou Yi drove with the ball, taking advantage ofWorrilow’s defensive lapse to quickly penetrate into the Wizards’ paint. Another Chinese player, Yi Jianlian, came over to help defend, and Zhou Yi was about to face him one-on-one. Instead of backing down, Zhou Yi charged even more aggressively at Yi Jianlian. Facing his massive outstretched hand, Zhou Yi twisted his waist mid-air to dodge the block and threw the ball into the basket, even drawing a foul on Yi Jianlian.
Yi Jianlian sighed helplessly and nodded at Zhou Yi. Zhou Yi wiped the sweat from his forehead and smiled slightly at him.
Zhou Yi took a deep breath and then made a free throw. Yi Jianlian sent the ball in from the baseline, handing it back toWorrilow.Worrilow had already played for nearly twelve minutes, seemingly set to play the entire first quarter. At this point, his speed had noticeably slowed. After slowly advancing to the front court, he glanced at the clock and tried to control the ball to find an offensive opportunity. But Zhou Yi stuck closely to him like glue.
“Your name is Zhou Yi, right?”Worrilow asked arrogantly, pushing against Zhou Yi with his body.
Zhou Yi ignored him and focused entirely on defendingWorrilow. Seeing that the young man ignored him,Worrilow’s eyes flashed with coldness as he sneered, “Hmph, an overconfident kid. I’ll show you what real strength is soon.”
Zhou Yi paid no attention toWorrilow’s trash talk and continued to concentrate on defense.Worrilow’s hostility grew even more, and he suddenly accelerated, trying to force his way past Zhou Yi. Zhou Yi wouldn’t let him go—he swiftly snatched the ball fromWorrilow with his right hand, then, after picking it up, dashed like lightning toward the opposing half-court.
Worrilow pushed his speed to the limit, but Zhou Yi was equally fast. In the blink of an eye, he reached the Wizards’ paint and executed a difficult one-handed windmill dunk in front of everyone. The Pistons’ home fans screamed in excitement, and the arena instantly erupted.
“This guy is too amazing,” said one Pistons fan.
“It’s incredible—this dunk is absolutely fucking awesome.”
“A steal followed by a windmill dunk—this guy seems to be invincible.”
“I need to buy all the tickets for the Pistons’ home games this season right away.”
……
Chatter filled the stands, and even the benches of both teams started discussing it.
With 20 seconds left in the game, the Wizards had the ball and their last chance to attack in the first quarter.Worrilow carried the ball with a dark expression, filled with anger.
“This Chinese kid is already on my blacklist,”Worrilow muttered to himself.
After all,Worrilow was the number one draft pick in 2010, so he didn’t act too impulsively. Glancing at the timer, he calculated the time. Suddenly,Worrilow flipped his hand and passed the ball to Yi Jianlian, who cut inside and dunked with both hands in one smooth motion, without any hesitation.
At that moment, the referee’s whistle blew, signaling the end of the first quarter. Zhou Yi checked the scoreboard—it read 28:22, with the Pistons leading by 6 points.
Although only about four minutes had passed, Zhou Yi’s face was already covered in sweat. After taking a towel from a staff member, he sat down next to Bynum.
“Hey, Zhou, you really like to show off!” Bynum said jokingly.
“What? No way,” Zhou Yi replied after taking a sip of his drink.
Hearing Zhou Yi’s answer, Bynum rolled his eyes and said disdainfully, “That’s not showing off? Didn’t you hear the screams from the crowd just now?”
Zhou Yi touched his head and smiled sheepishly. “Okay, okay, I was wrong.”
The two exchanged smiles and hugged each other, chatting happily.
