Chapter 68: End?
It must be said that the appearance of Sos surprised the Ancient Willings, as they saw the shadow of Belial in him.
Belial, a master of space magic who could traverse time and space using human power—his strength even posed a threat to the eternally existing Ancient Willings.
Since he could move through time and dimensions, it meant he was no longer confined to the Third World; he could even cross over to the Second World where the Ancient Willings resided. This would completely disrupt the existing order of the Second World. Moreover, Belial’s reckless actions made even the Ancient Willings wary.
After all, although the Ancient Willings cared little about the survival or destruction of the Third World, the safety of their own Second World was directly related to them. They didn’t want that madman, Belial, to get involved—after all, he already possessed the qualities of a god.
To wield divine power in a human body, even if it was that of a demi-god…
So, when Belial’s presence vanished from this world, aside from [Anger] Samiel, the other three Ancient Willings truly breathed a sigh of relief. But Sos’s appearance once again raised their concerns.
“Big brother!” Little Lily cheerfully greeted Sos.
“Oh!” Sos smiled slightly and said softly, “You’ve done well. Leave it to me now!”
Watching the blue flames burning in Sos’s hands, Lilith’s gaze took on an indescribable expression. In a strange tone, laced with tenderness, she asked, “Are you sure?”
“Ah!” Sos nodded confidently.
Lilith opened her mouth slightly, then suddenly changed her expression and giggled, “Alright, then leave it to you!” With that, she jumped off the roof and stepped aside.
“Left to big brother!” Little Lily also stepped back.
Seizing Sos’s gaze turning toward her, Vincent snorted mockingly, “This was your responsibility anyway!”
Vincent was right. After all, Sos had once been Sloth’s apostle. If Belial hadn’t taken away his apostolic power, none of this would have happened.
Vincent and Jerry Belford withdrew from the battle, while Ulrich and Connel also stepped back after hesitating, leaving Sos alone to face Sloth.
“Puppe, protect Nina!”
“Yes, master!” The puppet, [Pope], nodded respectfully.
“I’m going at you, Sloth!” After saying that, Thors crouched down before suddenly leaping into the air. With a loud noise, the ground beneath his feet cracked and collapsed.
“So fast!” Lilith showed a hint of surprise in her eyes.
Under everyone’s intense gazes, Thors waved his right hand as a huge fireball, filled with that kind of flame, appeared out of thin air and slowly headed toward Sloth.
It wasn’t that the fireball was slow—it was simply too massive, making its movement appear extremely slow to everyone.
“Roar!” Sloth opened his mouth full of fangs and spat out a blast of black flame.
With another loud explosion, the two powerful forces collided, and the shockwave from the explosion rushed out in all directions, even uprooting nearby houses as if a storm had struck.
“Whoosh…”
Hearing the howling wind, Allen felt as if he might be blown away. Instinctively, he drew the sword at his waist and planted it in the ground. He grabbed the weaker Scott and snapped, “That’s way too much, dude?!” But his voice couldn’t reach Thors over the storm.
“What kind of battle is this…” Nina immediately activated a shield and searched for Thors’ voice with a shocked expression.
“Is it that guy, Volmon?” Vincent, who had been watching the battle closely, suddenly noticed that Thors had disappeared from sight, and his expression changed slightly.
“Over there!” Jerry Belford pointed in a certain direction.
Everyone looked up and saw Thors’ figure appearing and disappearing as he dodged the black flames spat out by Sloth.
Suddenly, Thors’ figure appeared right in front of Sloth’s face without warning.
“Calm down, Sloth!” With a fierce shout, Thors punched Sloth on the forehead.
“Roar!” Sloth let out a pained roar, and his massive body lost its balance from the strike.
“What kind of incredible power is this…” Ulric stared wide-eyed, muttering to himself. Suddenly, he saw a fierce glint in Sloth’s eyes as he lost balance and instinctively shouted, “Be careful, Thors!”
But his warning was still too late…
Despite Sloth’s massive size, his speed was by no means slow. The moment he lost his balance, he raised his right palm and swung at Thors with incredible speed—so fast that even Thors, who possessed the power of the Source, couldn’t dodge and could only brace himself against the attack.
“Boom!” Sloth’s huge body collapsed, crushing half of Sasan and raising a cloud of dust.
But Thors wasn’t faring any better either. Hit by Sloth’s massive bear paw, he crashed hard to the ground with a loud thud.
“Thors!”
Nina instinctively cried out and rushed forward a few steps before suddenly stopping. To her relieved gaze, Thors, engulfed in four flames, landed in a crouch. Though his clothes were torn to shreds, he seemed unharmed.
“Phew, what terrifying brute force!” Wiping the blood from the corner of his mouth with his right hand, Thors managed to stand up. Even he had felt briefly unsteady after being struck by Sloth’s furious blow.
At that moment, Sloth staggered to his feet, his enormous body acting like a bulldozer as it effortlessly destroyed various buildings in Sasan City. With a powerful grab, he even pulled the entire palace out of the ground.
Under Thors’ horrified gaze, Sloth raised the entire palace and swung it at him.
“Hey, hey…” Allen and the others turned to run in panic, but before they could move, dense triangles of magic arrays appeared in the sky. After a brief pause, thousands of terrifying beams shattered the entire palace. It was Thors who had used Mirage to counter Sloth’s attack.
Watching the pieces of stone fall from the sky, Allen smirked triumphantly. “That’s too much! Our king will be upset! Heh…”
In the ensuing battle, not only the palace but all of Sasan’s buildings were destroyed, serving as tools for Sloth’s attacks. Under such pressure, Thors found himself in a disadvantageous position.
Finally, with a loud crash, Thors was crushed under a building. It was hard to imagine that Sloth, who usually was too lazy to move even an inch, could be so terrifying when enraged.
“Thors…”
Under Nina’s worried gaze, the building suddenly emitted countless eerie blue beams before exploding into fragments. Thors’ body reappeared before everyone.
By this time, Sasan had long become a ruin…
“Roar!” Watching Thors’s miserable state, Sloth’s gradually fading blood-red eyes showed a look of triumph as he raised his massive claws and waved them at Thors in a threatening gesture.
“Hehe, that guy Sloth is having a lot of fun…” Greed [Mammon] chuckled maliciously.
“…” Frowning at Mammon, Lilith gazed at Thors in the ruins with a complex expression.
For ten full minutes, even Thors, as a demi-god, began to feel strained, yet Sloth ahead of him seemed still full of energy. What terrifying recovery ability…
Thors couldn’t help but recall his time in the academy. Back then, because of Sloth’s presence, he had gained super-fast physical and magical recovery abilities—abilities that even Ravia envied. But now, Sloth’s powers were causing Thors great trouble.
“Roar!” With a loud roar, the ground of Sasan cracked and collapsed. Wherever Thors stood, the ground sank and crumbled.
“Damn it!” Thors suddenly noticed something strange beneath his feet and instinctively jumped up. Looking up, he saw a giant bear paw coming straight at him.
Instinctively, Thors could only block it with his own body. With a thud, his body was slammed to the ground, destroying an entire row of houses.
“Tch, I was careless!” Spitting out blood, Thors blamed himself.
After all, Sloth’s attributes were [Darkness] and [Fire]. Besides darkness, he could also control earth and fire elements, making it effortless for him to crack the ground.
On the roof of a house in the distance, Vincent crossed his arms and said indifferently, “It seems that guy alone won’t suffice!”
“Hehe!”
As soon as he spoke, the laughter of [Jealousy] Leviathan came from behind him.
“That human has already done quite well. Hehe, remember, it’s Sloth. You know, in past battles, although Asmontis defeated Sloth, in my opinion, Sloth didn’t even lose a hair…”
“Hey, Leviathan, what do you mean by that?” The Ancient Will [Lust] Asmontis behind Lilith said firmly.
“I’m just stating the facts!”
“You!”
As the two Ancient Wills argued uselessly, Little Lilith worriedly asked, “Big brother, really can’t you beat that bear? Samel?”
After a moment of silence, the Ancient Will behind little Lily, [Anger] Samel, spoke in a calm tone, “It’s difficult… Sloth is my brother, my elder brother. He was born before me, but he has never truly shown the power he possesses… Although Sloth’s divine power is ineffective against that human who wields the Source Force, Sloth is the embodiment of [Darkness] and [Fire]. As long as he stands on solid ground, he will have a recovery ability unmatched by any of us brothers. I doubt that even I could stand a chance if my brother truly committed himself…”
“Make Sloth commit himself?” Mammon chuckled. Everyone present understood what he meant—after all, Sloth represented [Laziness] and possessed the power of [Evasion]. Without external stimuli, he would never become serious. Perhaps this was what was meant by balance.
The more ambitious an Ancient Will, the weaker it became; conversely, the less ambitious, the stronger.
“Should we go help our big brother?” little Lily asked sweetly.
Including Lilith, the three apostles fell silent. Sloth’s strength far exceeded their expectations. Moreover, their own powers had been severely depleted in the battle against Belial earlier. How could they even dare to confront Sloth? At best, they could only launch attacks that might cause Sloth pain—attacks that wouldn’t hurt him but would earn them hatred. Who would do such a foolish thing?
On the other hand, they were also shocked by the power displayed by Thors. Though he seemed to be at a disadvantage, at least Sloth couldn’t deal with him right away. Just that power alone was beyond what the apostles could possess.
Now, Thors was no longer beneath Belial!
But to defeat Sloth…
It was difficult, extremely difficult!
Meanwhile, on the other side, two cardinals of the Church who were watching this astonishing battle were whispering to each other.
“It seems that Lord Volmon Kleist alone won’t be enough to suppress this Ancient Will… Lord Metment!” whispered the old cardinal Alma Bield.
“Hmm!” Naomi Metment nodded gravely. “That little brat Kleist is indeed strong. Right now, he’s probably the strongest among all of humanity. But the other side is an Ancient Will—a primordial being that has existed since the birth of the world. How could that little brat alone defeat it?”
“We still need to use the Great Sealing Ritual!”
“Hmm… but sealing the Ancient Will… it’s not easy… We need that brat’s help!”
“Lord Kleist?” Alma Bield was stunned and said hesitantly, “But then, no one will be able to resist Thros’s power. Those four apostles have already exhausted their strength in the previous battle. Even if they were willing, they probably couldn’t stop Thros’s power and would be killed…”
Just as they were speaking, a voice suddenly came from beside them.
“I think I could be the third candidate…”
The two bishops instinctively turned around and were surprised to see the Pawn Puppet, [Pope] Poppe, smiling at them.
The two bishops exchanged a glance and nodded.
“Then let’s hurry!”
The three of them stood in a triangle, simultaneously activating the holy power within them. A sacred hexagram symbol appeared beneath their feet, and divine power surged toward them like a tide.
However, Thros detected this holy power immediately and charged over with a roar.
At that moment, a sea of mirages blocked his path.
“Thros, my opponent is me!”
Thros used his own body to block all the beams of light. He glanced back at Thos standing behind him, his eyes filled with frenzied hatred, and launched a fierce attack.
After struggling for ten minutes, Thos, who had been at a disadvantage, was forced to keep using teleportation magic to evade under Thros’s seemingly endless power. Everyone noticed that his attacks became fewer and fewer.
It wasn’t surprising, as Thros’s relentless pressure left no room for Thos at all.
This left the two archbishops of the church extremely anxious. After all, the holy power they had gathered was far from enough to deal with Thros. If Thos failed, their fate wouldn’t be much better.
“Roar!”
Thros suddenly let out a terrifying roar that forced Thos, who was teleporting, to appear again.
Seeing the giant bear claws approaching, everyone’s hearts sank.
Just at that critical moment, Thos’s body suddenly turned into a ball of flame, narrowly avoiding Thros’s claws.
Yet, as everyone was worried, something very strange happened on the battlefield…
The two beams of flame separated by Thros’s claws did not merge again but remained as two separate flames. One was a white flame filled with holy power, while the other was a blue flame filled with dark power and spatial energy.
Amidst everyone’s astonished gazes, two flames condensed into a human figure at the same time. The one formed from the sacred flame was, of course, Thoth, now clad in a papal cardinal’s robe. The magic-powered white robe was covered with sacred symbols, while the other blue flame…
“Beel… Beelzebub!” Seeing the figure formed from the other flame, Allen’s eyes filled with horror as he exclaimed in shock, “He… wasn’t he dead?”
“Beelzebub?” Standing on a rooftop in the distance, Lilith covered her mouth in surprise, a hint of joy appearing in her eyes.
“Hm?” The Ancient Will behind her, [Lust] Asmontis, glanced doubtfully at her apostle.
Under everyone’s stunned stares, Beelzebub wore a black papal cardinal’s robe, also adorned with various strange symbols. He frowned at his own body, his expression unreadable.
Not far away, Thoth looked equally shocked, pointing at Beelzebub, unable to speak.
“How… how did you…?”
As if guessing Thoth’s thoughts, Beelzebub snapped, “How should I know? Our souls can’t fully merge? That’s impossible… We’re the same person…”
“Huh?” Hearing Beelzebub’s muttering, Thoth wore a highly peculiar expression for a moment.
“Roar!” Sloth’s eyes once again filled with hatred. Perhaps he had just realized the part of Thoth’s soul that belonged to Beelzebub.
Sloth’s roar interrupted Beelzebub’s thoughts. With a cold sneer, Beelzebub taunted as usual, “Still so useless, kid. I clearly gave you my power, yet you’re still weak!”
“Then go deal with him yourself!” Thoth retorted irritably.
“Heh!” Beelzebub smiled faintly, exchanging a glance with Thoth. They moved to Sloth’s left and right respectively, unleashing [Mirage] and [Flame Flash] at the same time.
Their combined attack left Sloth struggling to cope.
“Strange… Thoth’s power has decreased…” Nina murmured, looking at Thoth in the distance.
“It must be because he separated from Beelzebub. Dividing his demi-godly power in two naturally reduces its strength!” Scott said habitually, pushing up his glasses—although he no longer had any glasses on his nose.
Suddenly, Sloth roared and swung a claw at Belial. A strange glow appeared on Belial’s body, and he vanished from his spot without any warning. At the same time, Sos returned to his demi-god state. Before anyone could react, the flames on Sos’s body flared intensely, and then Belial reappeared beside him. With Belial’s return, Sos’s power dropped back to that of a mage. “Huh?” Little Lily tilted her head cutely. “Be careful,” Sos said irritably, glancing at Belial beside him. “You’re not the same as before—don’t waste my power!” “Is that your power?” Belial retorted with a cold smile, then his expression turned serious as he said, “It’s coming!” “Mm!” Watching all this, Allen scratched his hair anxiously and said in confusion, “What’s going on here?” In fact, it wasn’t just Allen who couldn’t understand; everyone present couldn’t explain what they were seeing. After “Nina” left, Belial, disheartened, handed over all his remaining power and soul to Sos. But for some reason, Belial’s soul couldn’t fully merge with Sos’s, resulting in this bizarre state. When the two souls were united, Sos became a demi-god—able to use four different types of flames simultaneously, cast illusions and flame flashes, and even employ space magic. When the two souls separated, Sos and Belial became two separate entities; Sos could no longer use Belial’s power, and Belial could no longer use Sos’s. Although their souls couldn’t fully merge, they somehow established a connection, allowing them to understand each other’s thoughts without words. For a moment, the mighty Sloth was at a disadvantage under their combined attacks. The onlookers below were stunned, unable to speak as they watched Sos and Belial alternate between unity and separation. Perhaps this was a strange situation caused by twisted laws, but it was still far too bizarre. How could such things exist in the world? After half an hour, even Sloth showed signs of exhaustion under the combined assault from Sos and Belial. Just then, a powerful divine force erupted on the battlefield.
With this divine power, Sos and Belial merged once again, displaying half-godly strength and firmly suppressing Sloth’s massive body.
“Now is the time! The Great Sealing Spell!” The two red-clothed archbishops, who had been waiting for this opportunity, shouted.
An extremely fierce burst of sacred energy erupted immediately, followed by a beam of utterly divine light descending from the clouds in the sky, enveloping Sloth’s entire body.
With crackling sounds, circles of sacred shackles appeared on Sloth’s body; those shackles filled with holy light locked him tightly.
“Roar! Roar!” Sloth struggled in anger.
The two old popes, along with the puppet [Pope] Poppe, did not dare move a muscle. They channeled all their sacred energy, trying to seal this ancient will with divine power.
Yet Sloth’s strength far exceeded their expectations. With a loud explosion, the golden shackles restraining him shattered simultaneously and vanished into golden light.
“How is this possible?!” The two archbishops looked horrified.
The Great Sealing Spell, powerful enough to seal gods, could not even bind Sloth?!
As the divine light in the sky also disappeared, yet Sloth still remained in this world, the two archbishops showed expressions of despair.
It’s over. Everything is over…
They knew well that Sos’s strength alone could not defeat Sloth; at best, it could only hold him back temporarily. But remember, he was an ancient will—a being with infinite power—while Sos was merely a human whose strength would be depleted in battle.
Once his strength was exhausted, who could then deal with this terrifying enemy?
Could this world still avoid destruction?
Watching Sloth, who continued to roar with a triumphant expression, the two archbishops sighed silently.
“Roar! Roar!” Under everyone’s solemn gazes, Sloth acted like a proud child, constantly roaring in triumph.
He indeed deserved it. After all, even Sos, the strongest among humans, could only temporarily resist his power without ever defeating it…
Just then, a voice reached Sloth’s ears.
“Is it enough, Sloth?”
Surprisingly, Sloth stopped moving and looked down at Sos, who was panting nearby at his feet.
Sos took a deep breath, looked into Sloth’s eyes, which had returned to their light red hue, and spoke in a tone as if addressing an old friend, “Your anger must have been vented by now, Sloth, right? My voice should reach you clearly, shouldn’t it?”
Staring at Sos’s seemingly strange eyes, Sloth gradually calmed down. He moved his massive body and sat on the ground, returning to the composure he had when he first met Sos. He lazily scratched his head with his claws and gazed at the ruined landscape of Thassan with a puzzled expression.
After a full minute, Sloth scratched his head again, suddenly stood up, and, to everyone’s disbelief, used his claws to tear a gap in space.
On the other side of the gap was a world filled with red and black—a world unbound by time or energy, the world where the ancient wills were born: the [Second World] space.
Amidst everyone’s stunned gazes, Sloth, like a child tired from playing, twisted his huge body and slowly slipped through that gap.
“Fighting… so troublesome… Anger… also so troublesome… The Third World… so troublesome… Talking… also so troublesome…”
Finally, the gap closed, as if it had never existed in the first place…
Was it over?
Sos secretly breathed a sigh of relief. When he turned around, he happened to meet the eyes of the other ancient wills present—eyes filled with disbelief, astonishment, and even joy, especially Mammon’s.
“…”
It seems the true end has not yet come…
