Chapter 54: The Shattered Hall – Section 8
Thunder and storms.
These two types of assault ships were developed by the Black Prison faction during the same period and from the same batch. While Thunder achieved remarkable success right from its inception, Storm faced numerous difficulties in reaching maturity. Lacking long-range weapons and endurance, this assault ship was on the verge of being abandoned. Had it not been for the persistent efforts of the black-haired individual, it might have long disappeared from Death Star’s battle fleet.
One thing is undeniable: despite its many weaknesses and unimpressive appearance, Storm assault ships always appeared at the most critical moments, never failing to deliver. No matter how chaotic the battlefield or how powerful the enemy, their arrival always meant a decisive strike!! A strike that shattered the opponent’s defenses with overwhelming force!!
“Boom!!”
Almost as soon as they appeared, hundreds of Storm assault ships formed a charging formation. Their sharp bows resembled gleaming bayonets, aimed at the ugly ships of the Nomis. Before the enemy could react, thick beams of blue light erupted from their tails.
That was the powerful exhaust from nearly a hundred highly compressed engines…
Although Storm assault ships’ endurance had always been criticized, when it came to short-distance bursts, not even Death Star—or all of human forces—could match them. With hulls spanning several kilometers, their actual cabins covered less than a thousand square meters, with the rest filled by sturdy armor and engine systems. Powered by nearly a hundred highly compressed engines, Storm assault ships could reach sublight speeds in just 15 seconds!!
What an terrifying speed! Anyone who witnessed it would tremble. At such a horrifying velocity, their impact force was simply mind-blowing!!
Even the robust armor of Moor giant ships couldn’t withstand the assault of three Storm ships!!
Though there were many ships on the battlefield, once these Storm assault ships appeared, everyone’s attention was drawn to them. The warriors on Blood Wolf’s side knew exactly what to expect, and the enemy forces weren’t fools either.
“What are those things?” asked a burly man resembling a giant bear from the cabin of a massive caterpillar-shaped ship at the rear. Around him, many similarly large Nomis were bustling about. Yet no matter how busy they were, they always kept their distance when passing by him—highlighting his status.
“I don’t know, leader.” Hearing the strong man’s question, an somewhat thin old man lowered his head in response. In this cabin, his frail build was undoubtedly unusual. But he wasn’t the only one—there were several other thin old men beside him. These elders never participated in the fleet’s operations. Yet whenever a problem arose, people would come to consult them.
This was the Nomii people’s way of life. The young were the main force in battle, while the elders served as their brains, using their experience to guide the strong and youthful warriors. Decision-making power, however, lay with the middle-aged, who combined ambition with prudence. No wonder the Nomii could become a nightmare for other races. Such a command structure was indeed well-suited and effective.
“Have even the elders never seen them?” Hearing the old man’s reply, the strong man called the leader was stunned and asked in surprise.
“Yes! We’ve never seen them,” the old man replied calmly, though a glint appeared in his eyes.
“But we can be sure this is the enemy’s advanced weapon. We must prepare for it. Leader, I suggest you withdraw the frontline fleet immediately and switch from offense to defense.”
“Just because of a few strangely shaped triangular ships?” The strong man smiled lightly and shook his head. “Elders, I respect your experience. But I can’t issue that order now.”
“Why?” The old man was taken aback.
“Look,” the strong man pointed at the battlefield ahead. “Our fleet has already entered the enemy’s formation. The fighting is fierce—soldiers are dying every moment. Although we hold an advantage now, as you can see, the enemy’s resistance is strong. Under these circumstances, if I order a retreat, they could pursue us and force us to pay a heavy price. Don’t doubt it—I believe they have the capability.”
“But leader, if we don’t retreat…” The old man grew anxious and hurriedly argued. But before he could finish, the leader interrupted him with a smile.
“If we don’t retreat, we may face unknown risks.” The strong man nodded smilingly, finishing the old man’s sentence.
“But there’s still a chance. Though our ships are few, we’ve mobilized the entire tribe’s strength this time. We have a overwhelming advantage on the front line. As long as our soldiers can withstand this attack, then the enemy will be in our hands. And the numerous prey on the Death Star will have no chance of escaping.”
At these words, the muscular man’s face suddenly showed signs of greed. The old man beside him wasn’t much better, his eyes glowing with desire.
“Then let’s do it,” the two, driven by lust, made their decision without hesitation.
Meanwhile, the Nomii fleet gathered ahead also faced the most severe crisis since the battle began.
It had to be admitted that the Nomii had remarkable combat skills. They detected the Storm Raiders as soon as they appeared. But with no new orders from behind and the battle already intense, they took no other action and continued charging fiercely toward the core of the Blood Wolf formation. Countless emerald-green corrosive liquids sprayed like a storm, inflicting massive damage on the surrounding Thunderbolt Raiders. In just a short while, the Blood Wolf fleet thinned out significantly, with over thirty more Thunderbolts destroyed.
Yet precisely because of this, the Nomii fleet was forced to stay in a confined space, their formation incredibly dense. In the targeting systems of the Storm Raiders behind them, they became the most obvious and striking targets.
“Storms, ready.” Amidst the fierce battle, another scene unfolded aboard a command ship surrounded by numerous Blood Wolf warships. A cold atmosphere filled the cabin, and the reporting officer stood motionless like a statue.
“Very good. Then let’s begin,” Guard Leader Sjei nodded lightly, his expression much like that of his superior—black-haired.
“Hss!!”
With this order, a shrill sound suddenly arose from the group of Storm Raiders behind the battlefield. In an instant, their wake expanded to hundreds of meters in diameter. Like wild horses freed from their reins, they charged forward violently. Their hulls rubbed against the rare particles in space, emitting brilliant blue light.
“How beautiful…” A Blood Wolf warrior stood by the window, utterly captivated. That dazzling blue light resembled a straight line drawn in an instant across space, breathtaking in its beauty.
But it was a line of death…
Unlike the enchanted Blood Wolf warriors, for the Nomii warriors—who held absolute superiority as the targets of the Storm Raiders—this blue light was utterly terrifying.
In an instant, just an instant—less than a third of a second. Countless terrifying triangular warships rushed at them. Their hard, massive hulls acted like sharp bayonets, instantly tearing apart their proud caterpillar warships. The Nommi’s unique soft armor was utterly useless against such overwhelming force. Amidst roaring explosions, nearly a hundred warships were shattered to pieces!!
In contrast, their attacks had little effect on the enemy’s huge triangular hulls.
The Storm Assault Ships had extremely thick hulls.
Eighty percent of their several-kilometer-long hulls were made of superalloy plates, giving them defense capabilities comparable to those of the Moore giants!! What was most terrifying was that the Storm Assault Ships’ armor ignored the type of attack—whether it was energy weapons, conventional weapons, or the Nommi’s corrosive liquids—treatening them all equally. Unless an attack could penetrate nearly a kilometer of alloy in an instant, it was like tickling them!!
Collisions… penetrations…
Flames and green liquid became the most beautiful sight in the universe at that moment. There were no screams, no pleas for mercy. Everything happened silently. The once fiercely fighting Blood Wolf warriors had completely stopped fighting, quietly watching the Storm Assault Ships’ slaughter from behind under the lightning.
A silent massacre.
Nearly a hundred Storm Assault Ships moved through space like living arrows, swiftly destroying a Nommi warship with every turn and acceleration. Their triangular hulls acted like the sharpest needles in the universe, guided by an invisible hand. The Blood Wolf warriors saw a Nommi warship break away from its fleet in an attempt to flee, but it was quickly caught by a Storm Assault Ship from behind and pierced instantly. The hulls, which had once disgusted everyone, shattered like paper when confronted by the Storm Assault Ships. Green corrosive liquid splashed everywhere, leaving only minor scorch marks on the ships’ thick armor.
Nearly seven hundred Nommi warships were wiped out by the Storm Assault Ships in less than ten minutes. The vast starfield battlefield was in chaos, filled with green debris.
The once majestic Storm Assault Ships now quietly returned to the back of their formation. Not a single shot was fired, not a single triumphant cry was uttered. Silent… eerily quiet.
Yet in the eyes of all the Blood Wolf warriors who witnessed this massacre firsthand, these Storm Raiders were no longer those nearly obsolete weapons of the past. They were a pack of wolves—a pack that did not howl, but only danced in silence… In the distance, deep in the universe, countless light-years away, a young Moor officer had just wiped the last bit of sweat from his face. Cold sweat.
