Chapter 48: The Greatest Thief in History, Section 7
Leaving aside the refugees’ horror and panic, let’s talk about Hei Fa, who was at the height of his triumph.
Indeed, his actions were those of a thief—a truly colossal one. But when it came to his gains, who could say they weren’t substantial? After all, what he had stolen was a star station. Just in terms of size, this massive structure rivaled a standard planet. And most importantly, it contained the Moors’ technological advancements.
These were the Moors’ technologies for civilian use, entirely different from those used in warfare.
This is actually a recurring theme. Since the beginning of the cosmic era, human technology has split into two paths. One emerged naturally from military warfare, while the other was the kind of technology Hei Fa had acquired—colonization technologies designed for the survival of inhabitants. Of course, many would argue that technology is driven by war; whatever technology appears first is applied to warfare, with civilian technology at best being a byproduct. Only backward technologies end up being used for civilian purposes.
But that’s not true.
On Earth in the past, this theory might have held water, as humans hadn’t yet broken free from planetary constraints and entered the cosmic realm. But in this universe, it’s a different story. Civilian technology consumes a significant portion of resources in every aspect.
The most crucial among them are civilian technologies related to environmental transformation, stabilizing natural systems, planet reconstruction plans, and establishing ecosystems—technologies that have become essential for all factions. Without them, even if you conquer vast territories, successful colonization is impossible, as your settlers cannot survive in an unfamiliar environment.
To conquer, one must first survive. It’s that simple. If you can’t even survive, how can you talk about conquest or colonization?
And human beings—no, all living beings—cannot forever stay on warships. They need to communicate, produce, and adapt to their environment. All these factors have given rise to the independent field of civilian technology. Thus, in Hei Fa’s eyes, his gains this time were so enormous they could make him laugh in his dreams.
There was no civilian technology in the entire universe more advanced than the Moors’ star station.
The technology of other races at most involves building a few fully enclosed artificial cities on a planet. The more advanced ones can even modify a planet’s environment. Even the Death Star, with its black hair, required the help of the Wanderers to achieve such a complete transformation. But all of these are child’s play compared to the Moors!
Because these projects rely on planets to carry out, they don’t even need them! Without a planet, they create their own! From this alone, it can be seen just how advanced the Moors are in civilian technology. As for similar technologies, the entire human race only has the Black Hair’s Thor Fortress, but even this fortress, which embodies so many of Black Hair’s hopes, was built with the help of an asteroid.
It can be said that in terms of civilian technology, the Moors are either number one or number two in the entire universe. The only ones likely stronger than them are the Mason Planet, which Black Hair has seen, but that is also a product of a mechanical civilization, beyond the reach of ordinary beings.
This is precisely why it’s evident just how great Black Hair’s gains from this trip were. On the way back, his face was always filled with a smile. As for Blood Eyes, who had escaped his cage, he was overjoyed. He and Monkey set up countless bottles of wine in the cabin and drank until they couldn’t tell east from west.
But this time, Black Hair didn’t scold them; instead, he let them indulge. Even after arriving at the Death Star, he never reprimanded them once. He truly gave Monkey and Blood Eyes a long break.
But once they arrived, things changed.
It’s simple—the Moors’ space station was simply too huge.
Can you imagine a planet-sized object suddenly appearing next to the Death Star? And this enormous object was entirely man-made. Its cylindrical shape and silver gleam clearly revealed its identity. Its appearance instantly added an artificial moon to the Death Star!
The entire Death Star was instantly in an uproar.
Regardless of race, everyone on the Death Star stared in disbelief at this mysterious object. Panic spread across their faces. For a moment, they thought they were facing an alien invasion! Thousands of warships under the Blood Wolf faction rushed into the air, surrounding the space station like stars surrounding a moon. Suley and Baroka, who were staying behind, immediately went to the command room, anxiously watching this suddenly appeared giant object.
Baroque was still manageable. At least they had seen the shape of the Moor Star Station before and recognized it as the Seven-Six Triple Star Station they had visited once. But Sulei was completely different. This little girl who had always managed the Death Star for Black Hair had never seen such a huge structure before. Her face turned pale with fear as she entered the command room.
It wasn’t surprising that they were shocked. The appearance of the star station was simply too sudden. After all, when Black Hair left the Death Star, no one had said a word. Even Cobra of the Black Prison only knew that Black Hair was going to prepare a giant energy system. Who would have thought he would actually bring the entire Moor Star Station here?
This truly caused chaos everywhere. Even aside from the Blood Wolves themselves, Marshal Wick and Grand Duke Poseidon, who had been keeping an eye on this area, also received the news at the same time. However, this information was limited to the higher-ups, so it didn’t cause a huge uproar throughout the human world.
The only reaction of these two powerful figures upon hearing the news was a wry smile. At first, it was just a few warships; later, they abducted an entire fleet. Now, they had even brought back a star station. What more couldn’t Black Hair do? Could it be that he was using the Moors as his warehouse, taking whatever he needed?
Yet despite their wry smiles, the two powerful figures were utterly impressed by Black Hair’s ability to plunder. But this time, they remained silent like never before. They didn’t reach out to Black Hair—not because they had become more restrained, but because Black Hair had helped them so much recently. Having just received nearly a hundred replica giant ships, they felt too embarrassed to ask for more.
And Black Hair had no intention of sharing his gains with anyone. Back at the Death Star, he immediately issued a martial law order. The entire Blood Wolf forces were on high alert, with all fleets divided into three groups for round-the-clock patrols. The star station was placed in a starfield less than 7,000 kilometers away from the Death Star, facing it like twin stars. At the same time, Cobra of the Black Prison was immediately taken to the star station by Black Hair. The two walked across the spacious hall of the Seven-Six Triple Star Station, and Black Hair pointed at the ground beneath their feet.
“I’ve brought it for you. It’s right below.”
“Is this the large-scale energy system you prepared for me?” Cobra pushed up his thick glasses and asked hesitantly. “Why is it a city? And the style here seems familiar to me.”
He touched the wall of a building by the roadside, licked his finger, then frowned. “Stone essence?”
“That’s right. It’s a stone spirit.” The black-haired man nodded with a smile. “I’m sure you can see this is the work of the Moors. So, you can use it without worry. I’m confident the energy system here will meet your requirements.”
“I can’t help but worry.” The Snake smiled bitterly and shrugged. “I just asked you to help me get an energy system, yet you brought me an entire city. With such power, how could I not worry? Before, others called us Black Prisoners madmen, and I even took pride in that. Now I realize it was a huge injustice.”
After a pause, the Snake’s smile grew even more bitter. “There are indeed madmen, but not us—rather, you. Lord, I’m afraid everyone has misjudged things. You’re the real madman.”
“Thank you for the compliment.” The black-haired man nodded with a smile. Then he stopped in his tracks. “But before that, you need to come up with a way to hide this huge thing.”
“Oh? Why?” The Snake stopped in surprise, looking at the black-haired man with a questioning gaze.
Faced with that look, the black-haired man could only smile bitterly and spread his palms.
“The reason is simple. Because I stole it. I still can’t afford to anger its owner, nor do I dare. So before the owner finds out, you must hide this stolen item for me. Otherwise, if the owner discovers it, we’ll both be in big trouble.”
“The owner? You mean the Moors?” The Snake pushed up his glasses. “That’s indeed a problem. But it’s okay. With us Black Prisoners here, it’s not impossible. Coincidentally, you asked us to study the capabilities of gray soil some time ago, and we’ve made some progress. We’ve created a new type of holographic imaging system. We originally planned to use it as camouflage for Snake Fang. Now let’s use it to hide this huge thing first.”
“Gray soil?” The black-haired man was stunned, then remembered the sealed little creature he encountered during his last visit to the Rock Clan’s hometown. He couldn’t help but laugh softly.
“It’s been a long time since I last saw this little guy. Is he still doing well?”
“Of course,” the Snake nodded firmly. “That little thing is amazing. Its camouflage skills have confused many of our researchers. On Black Prison Planet, it’s a kind of overlord—no one dares to offend it. And during the last incident, it was just sleeping in its room, unharmed at all. If you want to see it, you can have it come over anytime. Anyway, our research is temporarily done, so we don’t need it for now.”
“That’s good. The little thing is rather pitiful. If you have time, take it to Death Star to play around.” The black-haired man nodded and then smiled as he patted the snake on the shoulder.
“Then I should go back and wait for your surprise? I hope it won’t take too long.”
“No problem. You’ll receive this surprise soon, my lord.” The snake also nodded with a smile, a glint appearing in its narrowed eyes.
“It’s a really big surprise—definitely won’t disappoint you…”
