Chapter 36: The Impossible Task – Section 8
Pitch black, an absolute darkness.
Like a midnight without any stars.
Hei Fa struggled to open his eyes, but still saw nothing.
“This is a promise!”
“My promise, Hei Fa!”
I must fulfill this promise. Wait… my heart hurts so much…
Who is it?! Who’s touching my precious treasure, Hei Fa?! Who’s spying on the thousand-year guardianship of Hei Fa’s beauty?!
Who?!
Damn this darkness—get away from me!!
Fear, anger, extreme impulse—these gave Hei Fa an unprecedented strength. With a thunderous roar in his mind, the darkness before him receded like a tide. Faint light returned to his sight once again.
He saw a blurred face, fat, with a sweet smile, just like Maitreya in Chinese mythology.
Furious, Hei Fa swore that he had never been this angry since birth. Though the face remained blurred, his heart told him it was this man resembling Maitreya who was touching his most precious treasure!!
Unforgivable!!!
His raging anger turned into action. Almost instantly, his subconscious issued an attack command. He believed that in the next moment, his left arm would turn into an invincible spear, crushing that annoying face before him!!
But… reality disappointed him.
A second passed, and that fat face was still swaying in front of him. His body showed no reaction at all. His usual coordination was completely gone. In an instant, Hei Fa realized he couldn’t control his body!! Not only that, he couldn’t even control the muscles on his face. It was as if he were trapped inside a human-shaped container!!
Damn it! How is this possible??
His anger surged, but his heart sank little by little. He couldn’t imagine anyone else in this world who could bind his body. After all, he had been genetically enhanced. The strength in his single arm was at least several thousand pounds—even alloy would be twisted under his power.
No! This isn’t binding! Then why can’t I move? Amidst his confusion, Hei Fa suddenly heard a hoarse voice.
“Ahaha. Look… my guest has awakened.”
He strained to keep his eyes wide open, trying to see more clearly with his black hair. Yet this action, which usually required no effort, was now incredibly difficult. Even with all his strength, he could only manage to open them slightly, just enough to see the entire body of that fat man.
The man was covered in blood, busy doing something with his chubby hands below. Due to the angle of view, Black Hair couldn’t see what he was doing, but he could guess that it was right over his own chest.
Damn it! He was manipulating his genetic code!!
His anger, which had just subsided, flared up again, turning his eyes blood red—like those of a roaring lion. If looks could kill, that fat man would have been torn to pieces in an instant, reduced to a mess of flesh from which no one could tell his original appearance.
Unfortunately, he couldn’t move at all. So he could only lie there helplessly, allowing the other man’s fat hands to fumble inside his chest. Strangely, he didn’t feel any pain.
It was a strange experience. A normal person would surely go mad at such a sight. Imagine having your chest opened by a fat man, who uses his big hands to mess around inside, turning everything into a mess—yet you feel nothing but can only watch silently. Is there anything more terrifying in this world? Black Hair even wondered if he was dreaming.
And in the dream, that damned fat man continued to do those horrible things, yet still wore a sweet smile on his face.
However, his next actions were surprisingly understanding. As if aware of Black Hair’s confusion, he chuckled and stopped what he was doing.
“Oh, my dear guest. Your name is Black Hair, right? You must be very scared now. Feeling that your once-familiar body has become strange? Oh, that doesn’t matter. Henry tells me this is just a little trick—but it’s extremely useful. Otherwise, I think you’d be in so much pain you’d pass out.”
Black Hair remained silent, the red light in his eyes growing even stronger—so intense it seemed like fresh blood just left his body.
It wasn’t that he didn’t want to answer; he simply couldn’t speak. After a quick check, he realized his nervous system had been severed!!
Oh, damn it. Could there be anything worse than this? After all, though Black Hair had undergone the best genetic enhancements, he was still human. Humans had all kinds of physiological weaknesses. With his nervous system cut off, it was almost as if he had become a cripple!!
A worthless fool who needs others to take care of even his basic needs. If this happened to an ordinary person, it would surely drive them crazy! But Black Hair isn’t ordinary, so he can still endure such blows. He can’t move his body or speak, but his gaze remains sharp—like two piercing bayonets that disturb Henry’s peace of mind. Under that gaze, even Henry’s usual smile freezes like a mask. He touches his nose, then waves his blood-stained right hand. “Alright, alright. Stop staring at me like that, you fierce guy. It’s strange—are you really human? Even the most ferocious beasts in the universe don’t have a gaze like yours.” “It’s a shame that gaze can’t turn into reality. Otherwise, I wouldn’t mind piercing your chest right now!” As Fat Henry waves his hand, Black Hair suddenly feels he can control his vocal cords again. Though only slightly, it’s enough to let him utter a mocking remark. Though such mockery isn’t even enough to tickle Fat Henry. He blinks his little eyes innocently and says, “Oh? Can gaze really turn into reality? That would be the greatest discovery of the year. My ancestors would surely love it. Oh, right. You don’t know them. But I think you know this little guy.” Fat Henry talks to himself as he hands over a small black crystal. Knowing Black Hair can’t move, he deliberately uses a finger to lift the crystal high, right in front of Black Hair’s eyes. The crystal is tiny, like a grain of millet. But Black Hair knows what it is. It’s the core, the parasitic point of the core. Taking a deep breath, Black Hair tries to calm himself. He knows that rage solves nothing and only makes him lose his footing. The red in his eyes slowly fades, and he slowly speaks, “How did you get it? What did you do to it?” “Haha.” Henry laughs as if hearing something absurd. His fat body trembles like waves. “How did I get it? What did I do to it? That’s so interesting. Do you really think I would have any intentions toward this defective thing? Looking at you being so cautious… Do you think I’m a demon?”
Straightening his chest, Henry finally stopped laughing. Then he pointed at his own nose. “Well then, let me introduce myself. I’m Henry, a descendant of the Legacy Clan. And what you call ‘Core’ is actually a defective product created by my own hands. Young man, now do you understand? As for your companion… I could even consider myself his father! You don’t think a father would have any ulterior motives toward his own child, do you?”
“Is that so?” The black-haired man’s eyes widened in shock, unable to process what he had heard. But in an instant, a cold glint appeared in his eyes as he snorted disdainfully. “But a true father would never call his own child a defective product!”
“You’re right. But you don’t understand the habits of the Legacy Clan. We are loyal to facts. It was indeed a defective product at one time. I’ll never hide that, no matter when. But now, this ‘defective product’ is even better than the best of my own children. As far as I know, it’s because of you.”
“Did Core tell you that?” The black-haired man was stunned. He couldn’t believe Core would reveal himself so easily. But after thinking it over, he understood.
After all, if what this fat Henry said was true, he was equivalent to a god in the eyes of Core. What could Core possibly hide about such a being? The black-haired man wasn’t an ordinary person; he naturally understood the methods of controlling recreated beings in biology. Hadn’t he himself almost been injected with false memories once?
With that thought, he no longer placed much hope in Core. All he could rely on now was himself.
So he frowned and suddenly asked in a heavy tone, “Then what are you doing now? Using me as your test subject to find out the reason?”
“You’re correct. That’s exactly what I’m doing. But it wasn’t planned—it’s already done!” Henry snapped his fingers and pointed at the black-haired man’s chest. “A golden genetic blueprint. I really can’t believe you carry such a precious item with you. Let me take a look. Oh, my God. Such a complex structure. I swear, this isn’t the combination of an ordinary human. It’s some kind of wonderful arrangement. Damn it, I’ve never seen anything like it!”
“Shut up!!! Get away from me right now!!!” The black-haired man was furious. Henry’s actions had enraged him completely. He had never been this angry before. The vows he had made had turned into a joke at this moment. In his rage, the black-haired man had never hated his own powerlessness as much as now!
It was a pity, but in front of him, Fat Henry seemed not to hear anything at all and continued talking to himself.
“It doesn’t matter if you’ve never seen it before; analyzing things like this is my strength. Don’t worry. It will take at most half an hour. Hm? Wait… What’s this? Some strange code? And this power!! Haha, I think I’ve found out why the little guy is evolving so quickly!?”
“Pfft!!”
A gush of blood sprayed out from his mouth, turning into a cloud of bright red mist. With a sudden roar, Black Hair’s shattered left arm moved again—black bones, like arrows leaving a bow, violently pierced into the fat man’s body right in front of him!!
“Die!!!”
