Chapter 3: The Heart of a Thug, Section 7
The moment firing began, it was a devastating strike.
Under the watchful eyes of the guards, as the black mech rushed to a distance of a kilometer from the manor, the massive cannons on its shoulders were raised simultaneously. Immediately afterward, flames erupted, and the characteristic screeching sound of high-caliber shells filled the air.
“Boom!!”
The tallest tower in the center of the manor was struck hard, resulting in a massive explosion. Countless fragments flew everywhere. The terrifying explosion was akin to a raging wave; the huge turret of the magic light cannon was even lifted high into the air. In just an instant, the 12-meter-tall tower was completely covered in smoke—its interior no longer visible.
All the guards took a deep breath in shock…
What… kind of joke is this?
A kilometer away, with such terrifying speed, attacking while evading intense fire, and still hitting the target on the first shot—such accuracy. Could it be that the enemy was an enhanced long-range sniper mech?
Still, these guards were all members of the Warriors Association. Although they hadn’t yet become true warriors, their combat skills far surpassed those of ordinary mercenaries. In a flash, they quickly reorganized themselves. The previously scattered gunfire became more systematic, with waves of shots fired in succession at the black mech.
As the saying goes, throwing random punches can still defeat an expert. The guards’ attack method, which didn’t consider hitting the target at all, produced unexpected results. Blackhair could no longer determine perfect evasion paths based on the enemy’s trajectory and had to rely on his extraordinary intuition to charge through the gunfire.
As a result, the little guy was hit several times by the magic light cannons. Much of his external armor was shattered by the energy shells of the magic light cannons and destroyed in the explosions. The mech’s torso shook violently, unable to maintain its course. Naturally, Blackhair inside it wasn’t faring any better.
No one wanted to know what it was like to be inside a violently shaking iron can. And not only did this iron can shake, but it also trembled deadly. The intense vibrations from the shell impacts were enough to knock even the strongest gorilla unconscious.
But Blackhair had no choice…
Attacking a stronghold single-handedly, no matter how weak it may be, is an almost impossible task. To accomplish this, he used up almost all the parts in the decommissioned factory that could strengthen the Goblin. To balance speed and armor, he even sacrificed flexibility—just to force his way through such intense fire.
Fortunately, his far beyond-normal physical strength granted him incredible resistance to interference and damage. Even if hit by direct artillery fire, he wouldn’t lose consciousness for even a moment. A resilient will is not only essential for being an outstanding soldier but also for a pure brute.
A distance of one kilometer took only thirty seconds for the Goblin, equipped with four auxiliary engines and high-speed impact modules on its legs. No matter how dense the enemy’s fire, it couldn’t completely destroy its thick additional armor in that time. The heavy cannons on the Goblin’s shoulders could also fire only three times in total.
That was enough. The first salvo destroyed the stronghold’s largest tower. The next two salvoes were meant to create a passage wide enough for the mech to enter.
Perhaps the guards of the Warrior Association were experienced veterans who had already reinforced their walls in anticipation of a frontal attack. But clearly, those walls were not enough to withstand the two 120MM rifled cannons on the Goblin’s shoulders. Amidst the deafening explosions, there was no pause between the Goblin’s two subsequent shots, and both landed in the same spot—a two-meter-wide crack in the wall, right between the two towers.
“Boom!!”
A massive explosion shook the earth, revealing the terrifying power of the 120MM rifled cannons. A huge hole was torn through the two-meter-thick wall. All the guards near it were instantly reduced to dust. Blood and flesh mixed with debris flew out in all directions, turning the entire hole red. Terrifying screams filled the air, as if hell had descended to earth.
“God, what kind of mech is that?! It’s terrifying!!”
“Demons, black demons!!!”
“Artillery fire! He’s trying to get in!!”
Terrified screams could not stop the Imp’s fierce assault. Almost the moment the wall was torn apart by artillery, the Imp’s massive body rushed in with a shrill screech and countless shards of debris. At the same time, the two rifled cannons on its shoulders detached, while two backup rapid-fire machine guns were pulled into the shoulder weapon slots by tracks!
“Bang bang bang bang…”
The circular barrels spun at high speed, firing countless bullets like wild wasps at any moving objects around. With a terrifying firing rate of up to 3,200 rounds per minute, a storm of steel swept across the open area. Any creature in front of the Imp was instantly torn to pieces. A large number of golden bullet casings fell from its shoulders like rain, forming a golden waterfall in the distance…
But the price of watching this “beautiful waterfall” was far too high. There were originally only five towers on the front of the wall; after one was destroyed by Black Hair, only four remained to serve as defenses. However, the towers were designed to defend against external threats, not internal ones. Faced with mechs that had already breached the wall, the guards inside had almost no protection at all. In an instant, they were torn to shreds by the barrage of bullets. Pools of blood burst into the air, resembling fireworks on a holiday.
“Click…”
The barrels spun a few more times before the machine guns ran out of ammunition and automatically detached from the shoulders, falling heavily at the Imp’s feet and kicking up dust. Thus, Black Hair completed the assault and successfully invaded the stronghold.
But with his entry, over fifty guards had already been reduced to pieces of flesh and blood. Within a radius of 500 meters around the black mech, everything was covered in that glaring red. The ground was soaked in blood, turning into a sticky, nauseating mess.
“It took three minutes and forty-two seconds. A step backward…” A bitter smile appeared on Black Hair’s pale face inside the cockpit as he murmured. At the same time…
A shrill scream that tore through the air suddenly came from the manor in front of him.
