Chapter 3: The Heart of a Thug, Section 6

It’s not that the dark-haired man lacks kindness. It’s just that on the eve of a fierce battle, he simply doesn’t have the energy to care about a little beggar. Besides, judging from the look of that beggar, even if he gave him money, it would be stolen by others as soon as he left, and who knows—he might even end up dead.

It’s better to teach someone how to fish than to give them fish.
But does he really have that time? The dark-haired man smiled bitterly.
Disturbed by this incident, he had no mood to continue. After casually wandering around the market and buying some necessities, he immediately returned to the workshop in the dismantling factory.

Perhaps due to the recent accident, the factory was rather quiet. Only a few scavengers and workers were there. When they saw the dark-haired man enter, they merely greeted him before returning to their tasks. As for his little mech, it stood quietly on the tracks in the center of the factory, its surface coated in a shiny black paint. Under the light, it reflected a cold glow.

No matter when, the weapon in one’s hands is still the most loyal companion. The dark-haired man looked satisfied at his mech’s dark chassis and quickly entered the cockpit using both hands and feet.

Three days later, in the northern part of the town of Kukare, there was an abandoned manor.

This manor actually had some significance. It was said to have been built by an unnamed noble who was among the first to arrive in this town. As a result, it was extremely large, covering dozens of square kilometers—far beyond what the town could accommodate—hence it was located outside the town. It was also the only building not enclosed by Kukare’s steel walls. Unfortunately, this curious unnamed noble couldn’t withstand the effects of industrial waste. Even before moving in, he fled back. The manor he left behind gradually fell into disrepair and became a haven for scavengers and beggars.

But now, there were no more scavengers or beggars in this manor—replaced instead by a group of extremely fierce men.

That’s right, they’re fierce. Since the first day they arrived here, these towering men, each about two meters tall, have unloaded countless weapons and ammunition from the vehicles and quickly armed the entire estate. The walls were reinforced, and new types of magic-guided light cannons appeared on the towers. All scavengers and beggars were driven out of the estate immediately. The elderly, weak, sick, and disabled who couldn’t move were thrown out like trash.

This group was actually a branch of the Warriors Association stationed in the town of Kukare.

They spent a month preparing and another week carrying out their plan. According to their plan, they should have taken control of Kukare Town’s industrial system long ago. Unfortunately, a small change occurred.

And this change directly led to the outcome they now faced.

“Alarm!! A mech is approaching, unknown model, speed… Good heavens, how is this possible? It’s extremely fast!” a burly man on duty in the tower suddenly shouted. At the same time, a shrill alarm sound echoed over the estate.

A mech?

The men who rushed out upon hearing the alarm were stunned. With the estate’s current defensive forces, it could rival a small fortress. Was such a fuss needed just for one mech? Moreover, that mech might have other purposes and might not be here to attack. Was such an exaggerated alarm really necessary?

Of course, they couldn’t see the mech clearly like the sentries could, so they couldn’t understand why the sentries were screaming in terror. But when they climbed up to the tower on the wall, everything became clear.

Good heavens, what kind of mech was that?

Its height was only about seven meters, but its length reached a full five meters. Its armor, made up of thick square bricks, was terrifyingly heavy. Entirely black in color, it had five-meter-long, thick cannon barrels protruding from its shoulders. Its two lower legs had completely transformed into two separate high-speed motorcycle chassis, with dozens of metal gears beneath them spewing countless dazzling sparks. The entire mech was astonishingly fast!

It’s still a mecha over there, but this is clearly a heavy armored assault vehicle. What kind of engine could possibly enable such extreme modifications? Almost all the warriors were confused. However, one thing was certain: with the power output of a magic mecha engine, it was absolutely impossible to create such a monster. Even if it were possible, the pilot riding it would be crushed to powder by the engine’s mental pressure the moment it started!

Magic mechas couldn’t do this, but mechanical mechas were an exception. All that was needed was to add a few auxiliary engines…

In the cockpit, beneath the helmet, a cruel smile appeared on the black-haired figure’s cheeks.

“Boom… boom… boom…” Dull explosions rang in succession, and in an instant, the entire sky was covered in purplish-red light.

All the warriors from the Warriors Association realized that such an armed mecha could never come to the manor for negotiations or tea. The only possibility was an enemy attack!! So, the next moment, all the cannons on the walls opened fire at full strength.

Unlike the weapons on magic mechas, magic light cannons didn’t require concern for mental pressure, so each shot was incredibly powerful. Though still not comparable to massive cannons, everyone knew that if the enemy mecha got hit even once, it would be enough to slow down its astonishing speed, even if it couldn’t be destroyed immediately!

Unfortunately, they miscalculated.

Perhaps the enemy mecha lost its agility due to its heavy armor. But its pilot was simply too skilled—managing to navigate through the hail of bullets. Every time it seemed about to be hit, the pilot would forcefully change the mecha’s direction, dodging by just a fraction of a millimeter. The seemingly dense barrage of bullets couldn’t touch it at all!!!

This was impossible!!

All the guards couldn’t believe their eyes.

What kind of pilot could perform such extreme maneuvers? Even the slightest details were taken into account, with space measured in centimeters. Often, the guards could even see sparks flying as the light cannon bullets skimmed past the edges of the enemy mecha!! Was this still a human?

“Boom!!”

As they were in shock, that mysterious heavy mecha finally fired…
