Chapter 10: Flying into the Vast Universe (Part 1)
Qi Wu Zhen and the others watched carefully. The planets on the star map appeared very small. When Li Ran tapped lightly, the planets enlarged, revealing mountains, rivers, oceans, and major cities—many of which were important energy hubs.
Guo Shier said, “Let’s confirm which city we’ll meet in. This planet is quite large. If there’s no designated meeting point… even if we find the planet, it might be hard to reunite. I wonder if the signal tokens will work in this world.”
Li Ran nodded. “We’ll go to this city… Note, it’s a small city. There doesn’t seem to be strong defense or surveillance in the sky. We need to be careful when entering the planet. There are many surveillance machines here… and over there. We must avoid them. Hehe, at our speed, unless they pay close attention, it’s unlikely they’ll notice us.”
Qi Wu Zhen said, “Just destroy those surveillance machines directly, right?”
Guo Shier laughed. “It’s easy to destroy them, but that would alert them.”
Qi Wu Zhen replied nonchalantly, “If they get alerted, so be it. What can they do?” By her habit, anyone or anything that posed a threat to her could be dealt with directly—that was the way things worked in the world of spells. But this was the Greater World, a United Spirit Kingdom with formidable military strength. As a Level 7 star nation, it must be extremely powerful. Any conflict would be troublesome. Even if she wasn’t afraid of them, dealing with them wouldn’t be easy.
Guo Shier said, “When we arrive in a new place, it’s best to stay low-key until we understand their strength.”
Qi Wu Zhen curled her lips, disapproving inwardly, but she didn’t object. Having followed the team for a long time, she had gradually learned to cooperate with others and stopped provoking fights on her own. Acting with the team was very different from acting alone; many things couldn’t be done as one wished.
Li Ran said, “Everyone, remember these directions clearly. Note… they may seem small on the star map, but once we enter this world, you’ll realize it occupies an incredibly vast space—so vast you can’t believe it. Even flying will take a long time. Don’t get confused later.”
Ceciline asked, “B-But… aren’t we going together?”
Li Ran explained, “This is in a dispersed situation—we must know how to handle it. If we weren’t dispersed, there wouldn’t be these problems, because entering the Greater World requires passing through passages, some of which are blocked. In case of an accident while passing through, we need to be prepared in advance. Hehe, Celine, even if you want to withdraw now, it’s too late.”
Celine said, “I didn’t intend to withdraw.”
Guo Shier smiled and said, “Just follow me; nothing serious will happen.” In truth, he wasn’t entirely sure either, but with the Void Star he obtained from Lanlandai, even if they fell into the void, they wouldn’t be torn apart by it.
Li Ran said, “I’m not sure yet which point we’ll emerge from, but the area should be fairly clear—right on this star map. Everyone should memorize this map carefully. If we get separated, at least we won’t be at a loss.”
Everyone stepped forward to examine the star map repeatedly. It wasn’t very large, containing only a few star systems. What they needed to remember most were the star systems where defensive outposts were located. Soon, everyone had memorized it. This was different from Guo Shier’s memories from his past life—professionals relied on soul memory, giving them extremely strong recall. Of course, memorizing a star system’s map was more complex, as it included various interstellar space stations built by humans, a vast number of them.
Li Ran folded up the star map and said, “Alright, let’s go now. Hehe, with the Hui Ning Ring, we’re not afraid of these spatial rifts. But we still need to avoid large-scale spatial collapses, otherwise we might end up in the void. We know too little about the void, so we should avoid it as much as possible.”
Guo Shier said, “By uniting and having the Hui Ning Ring’s protection, the danger is minimal. Let’s go—this time we should be able to move much faster.”
The seven quickly formed a five-star formation, with Guo Shier and Celine at the center, flying forward. The Hui Ning Ring’s aura enveloped them, instantly erasing any spatial rifts it encountered. The speed this time satisfied Li Ran and the others greatly. Remember, not long ago, they had to fly extremely cautiously, fearing accidental collisions with spatial rifts. Now, they only needed to avoid areas of spatial collapse.
After avoiding several small spatial collapse zones, the team was nearing the location of the passage. What would have taken over a dozen days before could now be accomplished in just a few days.
Finally, the team members saw the passage. It was a unstable spatial rift, like a narrow strip of sky sandwiched between two canyons, with unstable spatial barriers on both sides, filled with crisscrossing spatial fissures. With the help of the Vision Spell, they could clearly see countless spatial fissures inside the passage. Li Ran sighed, “No wonder this passage was abandoned. It’s completely impassable. Even with the Boundary Breaker… I’m not sure we can reach the Greater World.”
The entire passage resembled a long strip of ice, riddled with cracks. The situation inside was the same—countless crisscrossing spatial fissures. Without special methods, it would be impossible to survive once inside. Even if one forced their way in using the Boundary Breaker, the spirit energy within it would likely be depleted in no time. By the time the passage truly collapsed, the Boundary Breaker would probably no longer have the power to move forward.
Guo Shier estimated that this so-called spatial passage was about a thousand li wide and ten thousand li high—a narrow passage without a solid ground, only a sloping spatial path that wasn’t straight but curved. He said, “Fortunately, we made a deal with Lan Landai. If I see her again, I’ll give her some more treasures. With the Glowing Condensation Ring, we have a chance. Otherwise, we definitely wouldn’t have been able to pass.”
Li Ran agreed, “Yeah, I didn’t expect the passage to be like this.”
Qi Wuzhen said, “It’s too dangerous.”
Everyone sighed in dismay. Kuumu said, “It’s best if we exchange message talismans—as many as possible—to avoid getting lost in case of an accident.”
Guo Shier took out over a hundred of his unique message talismans at once. The talismans of the Spellcasters’ clan carried the soul fluctuations of their users. As long as they were on the same continent, activating a talisman would send it along the soul fluctuations emitted by the user. It was a very unique and secure communication method. Unless faced with dangers like spatial fissures or if the talisman’s owner wasn’t on that continent, it would generally return to its owner.
Li Ran and the others also took out their own talismans—ranging from dozens to over a hundred—and exchanged them among themselves. Sericeline immediately panicked. She said, “I don’t have any! What should I do?”
Guo Shier gave her one talisman and said, “Try activating it.”
Sericeline gave it a try and said dejectedly, “I… I can’t activate it.”
Guo Shier nodded and said, “It’s fine. Just follow me. Oh, by the way, you should study the Soul Scriptures diligently and recite them often by yourself. Don’t worry; I guarantee nothing will happen to you.”
Sericeline nodded. She still didn’t fully understand. Although she had never stopped reciting the scriptures—because it made her extremely calm and gave her a pleasant feeling—she really liked the Soul Scriptures and always made time to recite them. But she didn’t understand why Guo Shier wanted her to recite them on her own. Little did she know, Guo Shier had already made preparations. If she kept reciting the scriptures, even if she died, she would be reborn, and only then would he be able to find her.
For this reason, Guo Shier had specially created some search talismans based on Sericeline’s soul fluctuations. Once she was reborn, he could locate her through those fluctuations.
Sericeline had no idea there were so many secrets involved, but hearing Guo Shier’s assurance, she felt relieved.
Each of the seven members of the team received the Soul Scriptures. Although Wang Dayang joined later, he too received Guo Shier’s teachings. So even if they died, they would be reborn. Strictly speaking, they all possessed immortal souls and were no longer afraid of death; their souls wouldn’t vanish even if their bodies did.
The halo of the Hui Ning Ring protected everyone as Li Ran’s team rushed into the passage. As soon as they entered, an immense pressure overwhelmed them. The halo of the Hui Ning Ring trembled violently due to the numerous spatial cracks. This pressure was too much for the halo, causing its energy to deplete rapidly. In less than a minute, one piece of spiritual jade was used up. Li Ran kept replenishing the spiritual jade, thankfully they had acquired plenty earlier, enough to cover the current consumption.
Fortunately, not all areas were like this. After passing the initial section, when the passage turned downward, a stable space suddenly appeared—without a single spatial crack, a very stable passage. Li Ran said, “Let’s stop for a moment and rest.” Just that short stretch had left everyone sweating with tension. It was too dangerous; even with the Hui Ning Ring, they felt like they might be torn apart by the spatial cracks at any moment.
The seven immediately stopped, hanging in the center of the passage, surrounded by darkness in all directions. Here, there wasn’t a hint of light in the entire passage—only the glow from the Hui Ning Ring and the flickering light of talismans on each member’s body. They had all cast the Vision-Clearing Spell, allowing them to see everything around them clearly.
There was no air in the entire space, nor any gravity, much like in outer space. Fortunately, the members of Li Ran’s team were strong enough not to suffocate due to the lack of air. Even Serichlin wasn’t afraid; although her strength was a bit weaker, she was still capable of surviving in such an environment.
Guo Shier said, “I don’t know how long this passage is… We forgot to ask at first.”
Li Ran was also a bit annoyed. He said, “This passage is completely different from those we used when crossing boundaries before. Without this passage, I guess… we wouldn’t be able to reach the Greater World at all. This journey has been deadly. Let’s take a short rest and then continue.”
Ten minutes later, they set off again. About three days later, there was suddenly no path ahead. At that moment, they encountered a very serious problem: after the section of the passage collapsed, they didn’t know where the other end was. If they used the ability to break through barriers to move forward, they might end up in empty space. It would then be difficult to re-enter the passage, as they didn’t have the means like Xing Yunzi and Lan Landai to tear open space and enter directly.
The seven of them discussed for a long time at the end of the passage but still found no solution.
