Chapter 1: Harvest (Part 1)
Swarms of Void Worms gathered together, attacking Li Ran’s team frantically to prevent them from dispersing the swarm. Guo Shier’s Soul-Stabilizing Cauldron continuously emitted shockwaves. Since these waves covered every direction without any gaps, the Void Worms couldn’t find any weaknesses in their defense and were knocked down one after another. Throughout this time, neither Li Ran nor the others relaxed, swiftly sealing off the Void Worms.
Guo Shier stared intently at the clustered Void Worms and said, “Charge forward! Scatter them!” He instinctively sensed something was wrong.
Li Ran observed for a moment, feeling alarmed, and asked, “What are the worms doing?”
The space here had become relatively stable, reducing the spatial cracks around the Void Worms. But once they gathered together, it disrupted spatial stability. A large cluster of Void Worms made the space unstable at that point, creating numerous spatial cracks as the entire area trembled.
Guo Shier said urgently, “Either scatter them or we must leave this swarm immediately!”
Everyone desperately used rune palms to push back the approaching Void Worms, while the Soul-Stabilizing Cauldron kept sending shockwaves to knock down those that slipped through. Qi Wuzhen said, “It’s too late! We need to leave now!”
A dense swarm of Void Worms had taken shape, with countless spatial cracks spreading toward them.
Seshilin whispered, “They’re starting to move!”
Guo Shier turned around without hesitation and headed away. As he was in the middle, if he moved, everyone else had to follow and flee quickly. He didn’t want to confront so many spatial cracks—it was too dangerous and unwise.
Everyone rushed outward together. The swarm wasn’t fast enough to catch up with them for now, but as more Void Worms joined, their speed gradually increased.
Suddenly, Guo Shier felt the pressure ease—the seven of them had broken free from the swarm. Li Ran shouted, “I’ll carry us all!” He accelerated abruptly, and everyone followed at full speed, quickly putting some distance between them and the swarm.
The Void Worms didn’t rush to chase them but quickly reformed into a dense cluster, with almost all of them gathering together again.
When Guo Shier and the others were fleeing, they seemed to hear the sound of space tearing behind them. In reality, space tearing is silent, but when their soul fluctuations came into contact with it, their souls seemed to vibrate. The most terrifying part was that when the space rift reached a certain size, countless Void Worms surged out from it, and the swarm pursued them again—this time several times larger than before.
Except for Seraphine, everyone kept sending out soul fluctuations to detect movements behind them. Almost simultaneously, they all couldn’t help but curse, including Monier, who swore loudly. A huge space rift stretched out from the swarm and headed straight for them.
Li Ran and Qi Wu Zhen shouted in perfect coordination, causing everyone to instantly teleport a kilometer to the side. The space rift passed by them, and instantly, a massive crack appeared in the ground, as if cut by a knife through tofu—silent and sudden. Everyone’s heart trembled; such an attack was simply monstrous.
Guo Shier glanced back in a hurry and cursed, “Damn it… The swarm even has this kind of attack!”
Another space rift appeared, this time further away from them. If that one extended, they would be trapped between two space rifts. The entire space began to shake. Ku Mu simply said, “The worms have gone mad!”
Li Ran shouted, “Run! Run!” They didn’t have time to teleport. The space rifts were expanding at incredible speed, almost in an instant. So they could only race between the two rifts, hoping to get away quickly.
Qi Wu Zhen said calmly, “Prepare to break through the boundary!”
Li Ran replied helplessly, “Okay!” Then he cursed, “Damn! Bastards!”
Seraphine couldn’t see the space rifts, but she noticed fear on everyone’s faces. She couldn’t help asking, “Shier, what’s wrong?”
Guo Shier, having some free time as someone was carrying him, said, “We’re trapped between two space rifts. If the worms create more rifts, this small area might collapse, and we’ll all be trapped inside. You know… a space collapse is something we can’t withstand with our current strength.” Actually, with boundary-breaking protection, it might be okay for a while, but they weren’t prepared. Boundary-breaking could only last for a short time. If they couldn’t escape quickly, even that protection wouldn’t be enough.
Cecilin’s face turned pale instantly. Guo Shier said, “The space here is relatively stable, so we still have a chance. If we were in an unstable area, we’d really be in trouble.”
Because the space was stable, the spatial rifts lost momentum after extending for a certain distance and eventually stopped. The seven of them moved at great speed, breaking free from the encirclement of the two rifts in just a few breaths, though they were all drenched in cold sweat.
A third spatial rift emerged between the two previous ones, followed immediately by a sudden collapse of space, creating an even larger rift. This rift was particularly terrifying—a massive black crack that could be seen clearly with the naked eye, sucking in everything around it. Li Ran and the others ran extremely fast; their movements only slowed slightly before they managed to escape the pull.
The swarm of insects reached the top of the rift in an instant, appearing not far behind the seven of them.
The once-stable space began to tremble violently, with numerous small rifts appearing. The Void Insects became even more active, staring intently at the seven of them.
Guo Shier said, “It seems we’ve really angered them!”
Li Ran replied, “So what if they’re angry? Hehe, they’ll eventually become powerful weapons in our hands!”
Everyone laughed immediately. Indeed, even though it was dangerous, they wouldn’t give up these strange insects—these Void Insects were rare treasures. After leaving the Spell World, although their strength had soared, they could no longer create powerful ritual artifacts. It wasn’t due to a lack of skill but rather the absence of suitable materials, with no teachings in their heritage on using materials from other worlds. To utilize materials from this world would require extensive research, and they didn’t have the time for that.
Thus, the Void Insects became even more precious. Once sealed and their souls controlled, they became incredibly powerful weapons. Even if they were meant to be used only once, they were still highly coveted.
At present, each of them had at least ten thousand sealed Void Insects, with Guo Shier having even more. But no one ever thought they had enough.
The seven continued to charge forward. The chase and counter-chase was like a game—this time, it was Li Ran and his group who were being chased. The swarm of insects seemed insane, as if they could summon so many Void Insects from nowhere. As they detected fluctuations in the souls of those around them, they found more and more Void Insects gathering together, with spatial rifts appearing increasingly frequently. At first, there was just one rift, but ten minutes later, two rifts appeared simultaneously.
Using every trick at their disposal, Li Ran and the others moved swiftly, their only goal being to temporarily avoid the Void Insects’ attacks and reach a stable area as soon as possible, so they could return later to deal with these insects.
They were already quite close to a stable space, so they weren’t panicked but moved even more cautiously. The swarm of insects seemed to realize they were at a disadvantage ahead, intensifying their attacks and putting the seven in a difficult situation.
Seshilin gradually saw some patterns and said, “It seems we might have a chance now.”
Li Ran smiled and said, “Girl, don’t think we’re desperately escaping now. Soon, it’ll be the insects running away, haha!” He could already feel the space becoming more stable. Even though the Void Insects tried their best to create spatial rifts, they no longer had the terrifying power they once did. A rift that could once reach thousands of miles in an instant now only stretched a few hundred miles, and it didn’t extend quickly enough, greatly reducing the threat to them.
Guo Shier smiled and said, “The opportunity is coming soon. Just a little further… Hehe, the real show is about to begin!”
Kumu said, “What a pity!”
Qi Wuzhen asked curiously, “What’s there to be sorry about?”
Kumu replied, “If we had known the insects would react like this from the start, we should have set up a large trap somewhere. As long as we could prevent them from moving around freely, we could catch them all at once!”
Qi Wuzhen said, “Hmm, that’s true. But who would have known they’d react this way…”
Li Ran also realized this and said, “It’s a pity! Otherwise, we would have reaped great rewards. But it’s not bad either—we almost fell for it just now.”
In just a few words, the seven had flown far ahead. The swarm of insects chased quickly, only a hundred miles behind them, continuously launching attacks and creating more spatial rifts. Unfortunately, the space was now more stable, and the rifts created by the Void Insects couldn’t keep up with them.
Cecilin was still curious. She said, “Twelve, they keep attacking but can’t hit us. Why don’t they stop?”
Guo Shier explained, “It’s not all about attacking. They also need to obtain the power of the void. They must keep tearing apart space; otherwise, they can’t gain power here. Once they can no longer access the void energy, I guess they’ll even have trouble flying.”
Li Ran didn’t stop but continued to charge forward at full speed. It would be unwise to halt the battle now. The Void Worms still had strength left. If they fell into battle again, it would likely take only a breakthrough technique to escape, so they had to exhaust most of the Void Worms’ strength.
