Chapter 2: Clashing Fights (Part 2)
Two consecutive slaps, one to the left and one to the right—vast amounts of runes surged forth, forming two intensely condensed rune palms that glowed with golden light. They struck the worm fiercely, instantly destroying the spatial rifts extending from its body. The Void Worm made no sound; only after those slender, writhing spatial rifts were destroyed did it emit a faint crackling noise, as if a glass bottle were breaking on its own. For some reason, this sound sent chills down Guo Shier’s spine.
Another Void Worm attacked, bringing the total to two attacking him. Amidst the chaos, Guo Shier glanced at Li Ran and Qi Wu Zhen—they were each dealing with four Void Worms. He was relatively lucky, facing only two. Another Void Worm was pursuing the flying vehicles and humans. For some reason, they seemed very interested in humans; just one Void Worm drove the remaining humans into panic, with none able to escape its pursuit.
The reason they couldn’t escape was because the Void Worms’ pursuit tactics were extremely ruthless. They could also teleport short distances—often, just as you saw them in the east, they appeared in the west the next moment. Those who tried to flee faster or farther would often find a Void Worm suddenly appearing before them. They had no time to react before losing their lives.
Kasa shivered violently. He didn’t dare look any longer, but he also didn’t dare move. He had a strange feeling—that as long as he moved, a Void Worm would appear before him. So he gritted his teeth and waited for an opportunity.
Where Celine was located, she was even closer to the supply point than Kasa. She could see the battles above the supply point with her bare eyes, which filled her with dread as she watched one after another disappear. This was just one Void Worm. If eleven Void Worms attacked together, probably no one would survive by now. If not for Guo Shier and the others holding off ten Void Worms, there would likely be nothing left of this supply point, not even the ground itself would remain.
Guo Shier continued to launch rune attacks without pause. During this time, the three of them tried various methods but were unable to kill the Void Worm; at best, they could only destroy the spatial cracks around it, with no effect on its core. Gradually, Guo Shier grew impatient, unsure of what to use to defend against it. He even risked using the Umbrella Tower Sacrificial Treasure to resist, only to find that it too would be damaged. As for using Guxi Bi’s tentacles, he didn’t even consider it—he felt that using Guxi Bi here might result in losing the treasure formed from that soul.
Guxi Bi had remained unused for a long time because he had placed it in the Soul Calming Cauldron. However, recently, the old man had put Guxi Bi back on the altar, and the Soul Calming Cauldron could now be used again, but Guo Shier didn’t dare to use it for now. If the Moon Blade was damaged, the old man could repair it quickly, but if the Soul Calming Cauldron was damaged, it would cause far more pain—he would surely go mad.
As the battle progressed, the spatial cracks around the Void Worm’s body became fewer and fewer, and its figure gradually blurred. Although Li Ran and the other two couldn’t do anything to the Void Worm, the worm also couldn’t pose a greater threat to them.
The three of them flew back and forth above the supply point, and the aftermath of the battle inevitably affected the ground. Most of the supply point had been destroyed, and almost everyone inside, except those who escaped at first, had died there—no one could escape. This was all caused by just one Void Worm; of course, a small number were also affected by the battle.
Guo Shier struck again, pushing the Void Worm away. With a headache, he looked at the stubborn worm and shouted, “Big brother… I can’t kill this thing!”
Li Ran shouted, “I can’t kill it either!”
Qi Wuzhen said coldly from not far away, “Ordinary methods… are useless against them!” In a short time, she tried several attack methods but failed to pose a threat to the Void Worm. Of course, the worm was also badly damaged, with most of the slender spatial cracks on its body disappearing.
At that moment, the remaining Void Worm flew to the center of the supply point, rapidly shaking the spatial cracks around it. Instantly, a snapping sound arose. Li Ran and the others were stunned. Almost simultaneously, the three of them retreated, used quick teleportation, and gathered together. The ten Void Worms didn’t chase after them but flew quickly toward the worm making the snapping sound.
“What are they doing?” Guo Shier asked in confusion.
Li Ran shook his head. “I don’t know. We’ll find out if we watch. Hehe, anyway, they can’t do anything to us.”
The three of them were still careless. They realized that they could ignore the few Void Worms—using Rune Palm, they could pull them away, as they posed no threat. So when they noticed changes in the Void Worms, they took no action and simply waited quietly for further developments. They tried to identify the Weaknesses of the Void Worms, so it wasn’t strange they had such thoughts.
As ten Void Worms rushed forward one after another and then disappeared one by one, the remaining one suddenly grew enormous—going from the size of a bucket to that of a flying vehicle—while the spatial cracks also expanded rapidly. At this point, the Void Worm resembled a giant hedgehog with countless tentacles waving around.
Kasa’s Starry Armament let out a sharp screech—a warning signal at its maximum intensity, so loud it almost made his scalp explode. The warning from Starry Armament told him to stay as far away from this creature as possible. He was already within its attack range, with almost no chance of escape. He muttered, “How is this possible…” He dared not move at all. Now, his only hope for survival lay with those three people above the supply point. If they couldn’t hold back the threat, he was doomed. He had never doubted the conclusions drawn by Starry Armament.
Ceciline was even more immobilized. Being closer, the invisible threat made her break into cold sweat. After the large Void Worm formed, the spreading threat paralyzed her entire body; she had no strength to escape, as if all her vitality had been drained. Yet she also noticed that her strength was gradually increasing—a noticeable pace of improvement. She began to forcefully control her stiff body, realizing during this process that her strength was rising rapidly. She was both extremely terrified and overjoyed.
Li Ran, Guo Shier, and Qi Wuzhen’s expressions grew increasingly serious. They could sense this threat as well, but their formidable strength meant they weren’t greatly affected. Each of them exerted their own power, enough to counter this insane threat.
Guo Shier couldn’t help but say, “Damn, what does this worm want? It even swallowed ten others…”
Li Ran remained calm. “It’s fine. The three of us working together can hold it off.”
Qi Wuzhen added, “Yeah. Even if we can’t kill it, we can make it smaller!” Her tone was even more domineering.
Guo Shier felt a bad intuition, but he couldn’t pinpoint exactly what was wrong. The three of them still didn’t move, hovering in midair. Guo Shier quietly released the Soul Calming Cauldron from the altar. He hadn’t wanted to use this sacred artifact, but after the Moon Blade was damaged, it became his last hope for survival. After years of accumulation, the quality of the Soul Calming Cauldron had improved greatly, only slightly inferior to his altar—it was one of his trump cards, and he would only use it in extreme desperation.
The Void Worm, despite growing larger, didn’t take action either, merely hovering in the air, though the spatial cracks around it were rapidly expanding. In just a few breaths, the cracks, which had initially been only a few meters long and as thin as hair, grew to the thickness of a finger. Light began to seep through them, creating a bizarre sight—the shape resembled a head floating in water, with those spatial cracks acting like hair drifting with the current.
Qi Wu Zhen said, “It’s truly ugly!”
Guo Shier asked, “I wonder how this worm will attack. Big brother, Sister Zhen, should we try to test it out?”
Li Ran said, “That’s a good idea. You give it a try. I’m also a bit uneasy about this thing.” He was equally worried, so testing it was a good option.
Guo Shier nodded, raised his hands, and slapped out two palm strikes before suddenly clenching his fist and punching through the air. A fist formed of runes shot out, flying forward with a whoosh.
Two rune palms struck one after another. The Void Worm shifted the spatial cracks slightly, and in an instant, the two rune palms disappeared. Immediately afterward, the rune fist slammed into those chaotic spatial cracks, producing a series of loud cracks. The rune fist then scattered and gradually vanished. This test changed the expressions of all three.
Guo Shier exclaimed in horror, “Damn it… Its power has increased not by a factor of two or three, but by over a hundred times! We’re in trouble!”
The three of them didn’t think about escaping because it was already too late—especially since the Void Worm’s strength had skyrocketed. They had no choice but to unite against it. This was the first time they had encountered such a situation. They were all the top fighters in this world, yet they never expected to meet such an abnormal Void Worm capable of rapidly boosting its strength in this way.
Li Ran lamented, “Damn it! If we had attacked all of them at once earlier, maybe this wouldn’t have happened. Ten worms were weakened by us, leaving only this strongest one…” He shook his head repeatedly.
After all, it was their first encounter with a Void Worm, so they needed to explore its characteristics. Yet, the three of them weren’t afraid of this large Void Worm. Qi Wu Zhen smiled and said, “Let’s see just how powerful this guy is!” She took the lead, using this time a Rune Chain. From the previous battle, everyone understood that against Void Worms, no physical weapons would be effective, not even attacks with Rune Fire. The most effective method was to use weapons formed from runes, which seemed to have a restraining effect.
The purple rune chains quickly wrapped around it, and with crackling sounds, they destroyed several of the spreading spatial rifts.
Li Ran and Guo Shier exchanged a glance and immediately teleported away, sending out purple chains from the left and right. All three acted at the same time, and in an instant, countless purple chains surged forth, forming layers of networks that enveloped the worm. They were sacrificing resources, using rune attacks to seal those terrifying spatial rifts. They had never discovered such a function of runes before.
As more and more purple chains flew out, the three continued to unleash Rune Palm attacks, doing their best to suppress the Void Worm.
For some reason, the Void Worm remained motionless in place, enduring the fierce attacks from the three of them. The spatial rifts extending from its body gradually became fewer, but its size increased significantly, almost as large as the freight trucks Guo Shier had seen in his past life.
The three instinctively stepped back, knowing not to get too close.
Suddenly, the entire worm collapsed, contracted rapidly, then expanded violently. Li Ran shouted, “Teleport!”
Guo Shier and Qi Wu Zhen reacted swiftly. As soon as Li Ran shouted, the two teleported away.
