Chapter 5: The Power of the Beast Tide (Part 1)
Guo Shier said in confusion, “How can we not bypass it? No matter how many mutated beasts there are, they can’t block all the paths.” After all, the four of them weren’t walking but flying, so as long as there was a slight gap, they could get through.
Li Ran smiled faintly and said, “That’s the Beast Sea! You either retreat or charge in.”
Guo Shier was puzzled, “Beast Sea? How could there be a Beast Sea?”
Li Ran replied, “It’s a bit far away. Your soul can’t sense it yet. Once you get closer, you’ll understand. Hehe, this might just be a super battle where the strength difference between the two sides is minimal. If you want to go to a place with fluctuations… there’s still a lot to see.”
Guo Shier said, “Let’s go take a look. I’m really curious about what the Beast Sea is.”
Li Ran laughed and said, “We were originally planning to go there anyway. This time, by climbing that peak, we can see clearly what’s ahead from halfway up. Flying straight over… leaves little room for buffer.”
The four of them immediately used teleportation in succession. Eager to understand the situation, they didn’t hesitate to expend their soul energy to travel quickly. In just a few flashes, they arrived at the foot of the high mountain. Li Ran said, “Fly close to the mountain slope, be careful controlling the altar, and don’t get blown away by the strong winds at the peak.”
The path upward was not easy to find. Due to the mountain’s extreme height and steepness, covered in ice and snow, along with constant falling rocks and avalanches, it was easy to be knocked down if careless. With their current strength, Guo Shier and the others weren’t in immediate danger of death, but they would surely end up in a mess.
Li Ran led the way. It was the first time Guo Shier felt that climbing a mountain could be so difficult. Perhaps it was normal in his past life, but in this life, he was an altar-level expert who could even fly, yet he still found the mountain extremely hard to climb. The four of them flew upward continuously with Li Ran, dodging falling rocks and snow.
As they climbed higher, the scenery around them gradually became broader and clearer. However, the direction they were climbing was on the back side of the mountain. The side facing the Beast Sea was on the sunny side, so they couldn’t see the Beast Sea Li Ran had mentioned for now.
In a short while, the four of them reached halfway up the mountain. The wind was fierce. Except for Li Ran, the others held the altar above their heads. It wasn’t the right time to sit on the altar—the target was too large.
After turning along the mountain slope, they saw endless mountains with countless snow-capped peaks. Patches of clouds floated at the foot of the mountains, blocking part of the view. Guo Shier cast a vision-enhancing spell on himself before looking around.
When Guo Shier saw what lay ahead, he couldn’t help but exclaim in shock, “Wow! It’s terrifying! How many mutated beasts are there?”
Countless mutated beasts and aberrant beasts floated in the mist, forming a dark mass that even crushed the clouds. It was impossible to tell how many there were, but their roars could be heard clearly even on the mountain slopes. In the distance, the talisman beasts continued moving forward, while only the mutated beasts from behind rushed toward their origin, where there were many professionals. Even if only a small number of mutated beasts counterattacked, their numbers were still astonishing. Guo Shier said, “Look, someone’s trying to cross from the air… Ugh, terrifying…” Those professionals attempting to cross from the air had not gone far into the sea of beasts when large flocks of flying mutated birds rose and attacked them frantically. Aside from a few highly skilled professionals, the rest were immediately knocked to the ground. It was unclear what happened to them, as no one could escape. Fan Shentong said, “From left to right… I can’t see the end. How many mutated talisman beasts are there? And they’re all high-level ones!” Li Ran narrowed his eyes and after a while said, “That disturbance is now very clear. Those mutated talisman beasts and aberrant beasts are all moving toward that disturbance… It seems they’re converging from all directions here. If we chase behind them now, there must be even more ahead. It’s very difficult to reach that disturbance…” Guo Shier thought for a moment and said, “Those professionals aren’t going to the disturbance. They’re just hunting mutated talisman beasts and aberrant beasts, which is why the beast herd is counterattacking.” Yang Miluo said, “Look, that’s a group of mutated snow eagles… Huh, they actually landed.” Guo Shier and the others looked in the direction Yang Miluo indicated—toward the mountains on the right. Countless mutated snow eagles descended from the sky. They flew extremely low, landing in groups on the ground. Strangely, they spread their wings to maintain balance and rushed forward at full speed, leaving the four of them in awe. Yang Miluo continued, “What’s this? Snow eagles don’t fly… they run on the ground?” Guo Shier said, “I don’t understand.” Li Ran shook his head and said, “I’m a bit confused. It feels strange.” Suddenly curious, Guo Shier asked, “Brother Li Ran, if you were to fall into the sea of beasts… what would happen?” Li Ran laughed and retorted, “You little rascal! Don’t you have any better ideas? Wanting your brother to fall into the sea of beasts? Heh, actually, if I fell in, it would be their misfortune.” He said this with full confidence. Guo Shier remembered his “Sky Burial” technique and shuddered. If he used that technique, probably no mutated beast around him would survive.
Fan Shentong said, “These guys are really fearless, chasing after us and attacking.” More and more professionals gathered together to fiercely attack the mutated beasts. Originally, it was the mutated beasts chasing them, but now the situation had reversed. In just a short while, the united professionals managed to create a gap in the sea of beasts.
Li Ran said, “If not for the fluctuations in the sea of beasts that attracted them, with most of the mutated beasts on the move, they might not have succeeded. They seized this opportunity very well.”
Guo Shieru, envious, said, “Should we go kill some too? There are so many sacrifices… It will be hard to find them again in the future.”
Li Ran replied, “That’s a good idea. Let’s mix in with the professionals. Things are already chaotic here; it’s a good chance to take advantage, hehe.” This guy loved to pretend to be weak. When he first met Guo Shieru and the others, he pretended to be just an average expert. It was only because Guo Shieru and the others were too low-level at the time that he paid attention—had he not realized Guo Shieru was an outsider’s soul, he might not have paid any attention at all.
Guo Shieru and the other two had dark expressions. A master who surpassed the ninth-tier altar trying to take advantage—how absurd! But they had almost gotten used to it. Guo Shieru smiled and said, “Alright, let’s take advantage…” With Gu Xi Bi’s tentacles, he could snatch the essences of mutated beasts and abominations—those were absolute killing tools. No one could outmatch him.
Li Ran said, “Try not to use teleportation here. There are too many changes in the sky. Let’s fly down the mountain first, then head over.”
The four of them descended rapidly. Guo Shieru’s body fell like a stone; he didn’t control it at all and just jumped down. Along the way, he even laughed, “This is awesome, hehe. If I had done this before, it would have been suicide, haha.”
The others also found it fun and stopped controlling their descent as well, falling together.
Freefall was actually slower than flying on their own, but losing control was extremely thrilling. Li Ran said, “This feeling… Ah, it’s so exciting, haha.” Even he didn’t know if he would die from the impact if he didn’t control himself upon landing.
As the ground rushed toward them, Guo Shieru let out a strange cry and suddenly controlled his body to dart forward. The four of them turned into four streaks of light, flying low over the ground toward the distance.
All the professionals were gathering in one direction. It wasn’t because of anyone giving orders, but because every professional understood that a single team of professionals could never fight against the sea of beasts. Only by uniting could they make a difference.
As they drew closer, the deafening sounds of battles, bombings, avalanches, and the roars of mutated beasts filled the air in a chaotic mix, like a boiling mess that was both maddeningly noisy and exhilaratingly stimulating. Li Ran and his three companions reached the edge of the battlefield—a vast glacier with an uneven surface covered in ice formations and cracks. The ground appeared relatively flat, mainly because the surrounding mountains were far away. It was a flat glacier spanning thousands of miles, filled with countless mutated and aberrant beasts, as well as mutated birds and aberrant avians, along with numerous professionals all in chaos. The ground was littered with the corpses of mutated beasts and damaged altars. Guo Shieru was already sitting on one of the altars, with the handsome old man sticking his head out, his eyes shining with excitement. After exclaiming, Guo Shieru asked, “Old man, what’s wrong?” The handsome old man replied, “Sigh, it’s very similar to that battle I had back then… Only there weren’t so many mutated beasts back then. Kid, be careful—this place… is deadly easy.” Before he could finish speaking, an altar fell from the sky and crashed onto the glacier with a loud noise, instantly sinking into the ice and snow. At the top of the altar lay a blood-soaked professional, clearly dead, his soul rapidly merging into the altar. Guo Shieru’s head immediately burned with excitement. This was the first time he had seen such a battle—a scale of frenzied slaughter that was utterly terrifying. Death loomed at every moment, and neither humans nor beasts could escape. Only by fighting wildly could one survive. Such excitement was absolutely mind-blowing.
