Chapter 1: Pursuit (Part 1)
Guo Shier successfully lured Luo Jie and Qi Nanshan into the Fumen, and also managed to shake off the altar-level experts chasing behind them. At the same time, he turned himself into a target for pursuit. What troubled him greatly was that Luo Jie and Qi Nanshan had chaotic souls and couldn’t recognize who he was at all.
Eagle Demon, Luo Zhan, and Nan You were all sitting on Guo Shier’s altar. After shouting a few words, Guo Shier saw that Luo Jie and Qi Nanshan were still chasing after him, so he had no choice but to turn and run, shouting as he went, “Everyone, think of a solution! Old Master, help me control the altar—they’re too fast!”
No one could come up with a solution, so Guo Shier continued to flee desperately.
He rushed forward at full speed.
Guo Shier said anxiously, “It’ll be terrible if they catch up… Sigh, I never expected to be pursued by my master.”
Eagle Demon said, “Shier, don’t be afraid. We’ll find a way…” He too didn’t know how to comfort Guo Shier.
Guo Shier replied, “It’s not fear—it’s urgency…” He was extremely anxious. With his master Luo Jie and Qi Nanshan in such a state, with their souls so chaotic, if they didn’t regain their senses soon, they might go completely mad. By then, even the Soul Scriptures would be useless.
Luo Zhan said, “If they could calm down for a moment, we might have a chance.”
Nan You said, “Impossible. With their strength, we have no chance of controlling them. They’re altar-level experts at the sixth or seventh level. With just us few… it’s already hard to escape. If it weren’t for Old Master controlling the altar, we wouldn’t even be able to flee!”
Eagle Demon asked, “Where is this place?”
Guo Shier replied, “I don’t know either. It should be a continent. Old Master, where is this?”
Old Master said, “It’s a continent we passed by on our way back. It should belong to the ancient Xilong family. Be careful and defend yourselves! They’re about to attack.” As he spoke, a black flame slashed through the air—it was a giant sword shaped like flame. Old Master skillfully changed direction and teleported away before the flame could hit him.
Guo Shier glanced back in fear and said, “Damn, how ruthless!”
Old Master replied, “We’re still lucky. Clearly, those two haven’t yet mastered their powers. Coupled with their chaotic souls and the drawbacks of advancing too quickly, this is our chance. Otherwise, it would indeed be hard to escape.”
As the two pursuers closed in, the handsome old man immediately changed direction and teleported to create distance. Every time they approached, he used this method to evade them. Fortunately, Luo Jie and Qi Nanshan were both reckless; in such situations, they only knew how to pursue desperately without thinking of other tactics. If they had split up to surround them, Guo Shier and the others would have had no chance of escaping.
Eagle Demon pointed ahead and shouted, “Look! That’s a city!”
The handsome old man promptly steered the altar toward the city. Guo Shier cried out, “Old man, don’t go there… It will get others involved…”
The old man replied, “Nonsense. Of course I know that…” Before his words faded, he had already reached the skies above the city.
Three altars appeared in the sky—one fleeing and two pursuing, extremely visible. As Guo Shier’s altar passed through the city, chaos ensued below. Countless professionals flew up, most of them Grand Masters, with only two being experts in phantom altars. But by the time they reached the sky, Guo Shier’s altar had already moved on, followed by the two altars of Luo Jie and Qi Nanshan, emitting fierce black flames.
“Who dares to be so bold!”
Luo Jie and Qi Nanshan ignored them completely and plunged straight into the crowd. Cries of pain filled the air as every professional who got close to them was engulfed in black flames, instantly reduced to ashes, with their souls forcibly stolen. In the blink of an eye, dozens of professionals died.
While they were distracted, the handsome old man took the opportunity to activate the Great Cross-Realm Talisman, allowing Guo Shier’s altar to rush in quickly.
Luo Jie and Qi Nanshan pursued closely and also flew through the talisman portal.
…
The handsome old man’s upper body appeared above the altar as he said solemnly, “Kid, if we keep being chased like this, we’ll eventually run out of strength. By then… your master will kill you.”
Guo Shier replied, “I know!”
Eagle Demon said, “We’ve already fled seven continents and three secret realms. Sigh, I wonder if the old man isn’t tired at all. Once he wakes up, I’m going to ask him properly…”
Guo Shier snapped, “Will he stop chasing if he wakes up? How can we make them wake up? It would be great if someone could control them…” Suddenly, an idea struck him, and he shouted, “Damn it… I have an idea! Hopefully, she’s still there!”
As soon as these words were spoken, everyone understood. The old hero praised, “Good idea! The only one in this world who can control those two is Qi Wu Zhen!” Without Guo Shier’s instructions, the old hero began arranging coordinates on his own to find the shortest route. He knew that Qi Wu Zhen would stay on the continent where they had parted ways for a while—that was their only chance.
Guo Shier slapped his own forehead in frustration. He had been so distracted that he should have rushed to the continent where Qi Wu Zhen was. With Qi Wu Zhen’s help, they could surely control Luo Jie and Qi Nan Shan, and then use the Soul Scripture to make them regain their senses.
“Sigh, I’m such an idiot! It took me over ten days to think of this. If I had thought of it earlier, we might have already found Sister Zhen!”
The old hero said, “It’s not bad that you thought of it now. If you waited until we were exhausted… then you can cry. By then, we’ll all be finished!”
Guo Shier and the old hero took turns controlling the altar, which gave them a chance to rest. Their souls were constantly being drained. While controlling the altar didn’t consume much soul energy, frequent teleportations required a great deal. They had to absorb Soul Beads to replenish their lost energy, and Guo Shier also recited scriptures from time to time to help stabilize his soul.
Throughout this escape, Guo Shier and the old hero’s souls had greatly improved. Eagle Demon and the others, who had remained on the altar the whole time, also benefited greatly.
“Two more continents! We’re almost there. Hopefully, we can find Qi Wu Zhen quickly!”
The old hero glanced back at Luo Jie and Qi Nan Shan, who were still chasing them, and shook his head. “Such persistence… I’m surprised. Are you really their disciple? It’s a matter of life and death, yet you haven’t done anything—why are you so hated?”
Guo Shier replied helplessly, “How would I know?”
Eagle Demon said, “It’s simple. Because you saw their true faces… I guess the old man has made it an instinct to hide his true appearance. I think… anyone who sees their true faces will be relentlessly pursued, especially when their souls are in chaos.”
The old hero laughed. “Kid, you’re really unlucky.”
Guo Shier said, “I’ve still achieved my goal. The only thing I didn’t expect is… they didn’t recognize me!”
Nan You chuckled. “It’s okay they didn’t recognize you. They were still chasing you!”
Guo Shier grew serious. “Be serious! We’re being hunted!”
The Eagle Demon laughed and said, “No matter how serious we get, it’s useless. Twelve, we’re almost there… Once we create some distance, we can reach the next continent.”
Guo Shier pushed him on, “Old Man Shuai, run faster! Let’s get ahead of them!”
Old Man Shuai replied irritably, “It’s not that easy. You know better than anyone just how fiercely that damned master of yours is pursuing us. The seven-tier altar… Sigh, if I still had my original altar and strength, I wouldn’t fear him at all…” As he grumbled, he slammed his palm on the top of the altar, causing it to teleport suddenly—six consecutive teleportations in a row.
Guo Shier took over immediately, performing three more teleportations. Old Man Shuai shouted, “Stop!” Guo Shier responded seamlessly by bringing the altar to a halt right away. Old Man Shuai then activated the Great Cross-Realm Talisman, and a portal appeared. Without hesitation, Guo Shier steered the altar straight through it.
Luo Jie and Qi Nanshan were chasing quickly. Though their souls were in chaos, their fighting instincts hadn’t diminished at all—they were even stronger than when they were sober. Almost as soon as Guo Shier entered the portal, the two appeared behind them and rushed in without delay.
As soon as Guo Shier emerged from the portal, he teleported again. Old Man Shuai shouted, “Again!”
Three more teleportations, then a sudden stop. Old Man Shuai activated the Great Cross-Realm Talisman once more, and Guo Shier guided the altar straight in. If it weren’t for their seamless coordination, Old Man Shuai wouldn’t have had time to open the portal. They escaped once more, but still hadn’t shaken off Luo Jie and Qi Nanshan. Before the portal disappeared, the two rushed in after them.
