Chapter 6: Killing to Silence (Part 2)
Though both were furious, they wisely refrained from using the altar and settled on fighting with their fists and feet. At their level, even a single punch or kick carried immense power. Jin Longqing was slightly stronger, and soon Jin Daya was defeated, his face swollen and bruised, groaning in pain.
Jin Longqing wasn’t faring any better. With black eyes, he cursed viciously, “I can’t kill you, you bastard!”
Jin Daya covered his mouth. Jin Longqing’s punch had knocked out two of his front teeth, turning him from “Jin Daya” to “Jin Missing Teeth.” Though defeated, he still spoke toughly, “I thought you were so great. Turns out you’re just like a stray dog… Why be so brutal? Pah! Pah!” Spitting out blood, he continued cursing, “Damn… my teeth…”
Jin Longqing said, “You deserve it! Who told you to fight me? You asked for it!”
Jin Daya sat down on the ground, holding his head, “This time when I go back… there’s gonna be big trouble!”
Jin Longqing sighed. He understood what Jin Daya meant. Both of them had suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of a kid with a two-tiered altar, losing all face. They didn’t know how to explain themselves when they returned.
They sat there in silence. At this moment, neither of them had the urge to fight anymore.
A group of disciples from the Gu Jin family sat not far away, waiting. They didn’t dare speak loudly, whispering to each other anxiously.
After a while, Jin Longqing muttered to himself, “What should we do?”
Jin Daya covered his mouth and said fiercely, “What else can we do? We’re the ancestors—what are we afraid of? Go back and tell those disciples to shut up. Kill anyone who talks nonsense… Damn, what’s so hard about it? As long as we don’t alert the highest ranks of the family, we have nothing to worry about!”
Jin Longqing and Jin Daya were actually the highest ranks in the Gu Jin family, but there were many other ancestor-level figures as well. The Gu family had countless factions, and this defeat was bad news for their respective factions, so both of them were upset.
They exchanged glances, both their eyes gleaming with fury. Jin Daya nodded slowly and asked, “Should I go first, or you?”
Jin Longqing replied coldly, “If we both attack, none of us will be able to clean our names.”
Jin Daya nodded. “Okay!” Though he covered his mouth, his words still seeped through slightly, giving his sinister tone a hint of humor.
Among these disciples were also two grand elders, both experts in the Virtual Form Altar. One was Jin Yishou, and the other was named Jin Cheng. Jin Yishou belonged to the Jin Longqing faction, while Jin Cheng came from another family. Jin Daya waved and said, “Jin Cheng, come over.”
Jin Longqing leaped up and signaled Jin Yishou to fly to the side. Jin Daya sat on the ground and said, “Jin Cheng, sit down.”
Jin Cheng, terrified, replied, “Yes… Ancestor.” He had a bad feeling, his soul trembling violently, though he couldn’t figure out why. Jin Daya smiled kindly and said, “Jin Cheng, this time you’ve come out… haven’t you broadened your horizons?” He still covered his mouth, his voice carrying a whistling sound, but Jin Cheng felt ice-cold all over.
Jin Cheng’s face turned pale as he said, “Ancestor, I didn’t see anything…”
Jin Daya nodded and said, “Oh, I see. Hehe, but you did see something… Hehe, you saw me get defeated, you saw that bastard Jin Longqing get defeated… You saw it all…”
Jin Cheng couldn’t help but try to jump up and run. He strained to fly, but chains of virtual talismans emerged from the soil and instantly wrapped around him. These chains also contained golden soul-trapping talismans. Desperate, he said, “Ancestor, you can’t kill me…”
Jin Daya lowered his hand, smiled shamelessly, and said, “No, you’re wrong. It’s not me who will kill you… It’s the people from the Gu Nan family who will kill you. How could I kill someone from my own family? Hehe…” His hand emitted glimmers of talismanic light as he gently pressed it on Jin Cheng’s chest and said, “Don’t worry. I’ll take care of your family.”
Jin Cheng sighed sadly, “If only I had known… I would have been better off as a Golden Turtle…” Then he died instantly.
Jin Daya quickly pulled his hand back, extracting the Virtual Form Altar from Jin Cheng’s body. A silver glow shone in his palm. He smiled slightly, swallowed it, and said, “At least this can restore most of my altar. Hmm, this method is quite good.”
He silently killed an expert in the Virtual Form Altar and even consumed their altar. Of course, if it had been an enemy expert, Jin Daya wouldn’t have succeeded so easily. An expert in the Virtual Form Altar could already destroy their own altar, and even if they couldn’t seriously injure their enemy, the enemy wouldn’t get their altar either. Poor Jin Cheng never expected Jin Daya to kill him. Caught off guard, he was trapped by the virtual talismans and couldn’t even destroy his own altar, allowing Jin Daya to reap a great advantage.
Jin Cheng’s body remained on the ground; no one noticed that he had already died from exhaustion. Jin Daya turned around and saw Jin Yishou gathering his disciples. He realized that Jin Longqing was about to take action.
Screams rang out one after another. The disciples never expected their family’s patriarch to turn on them and quickly collapsed on the ground.
A moment later, all the remaining disciples of the Gu Jin family were dead, their eyes wide open in shock.
Jin Yishou’s face was pale. He lowered his head and obediently followed behind Jin Longqing.
Jin Daya and Jin Longqing exchanged a glance. Neither spoke as they took off together. Once in the air, they separated immediately.
…
Guo Shier, along with a large group of captives and Nan Ming and Nan Zhi Chun, flew swiftly toward the Gu Nan family’s stronghold. He said, “Take the captives there. I’ll go find Patriarch Nan Qiang. If anything happens, send a message token.”
Eager to learn about the progress of the Eagle Demon’s advancement, he didn’t go straight to Patriarch Nan Qiang but first headed to his own courtyard.
Upon entering the courtyard, he saw Nan You and Luo Zhan chatting. Guo Shier smiled and said, “Uncle Luo, Nan You, I’m back.”
Luo Zhan rejoiced, “You’re finally back! I heard it was quite chaotic outside.”
Guo Shier replied, “It was more than chaotic. I almost didn’t make it back. The Gu Jin family even sent top professionals. I was lucky—without that handsome old man’s help, I would have been in serious danger.”
Nan You said, “You encountered some experts from the Void Form Altar. With your strength, you should be fine.”
Guo Shier shook his head. “Void Form Altar… Heh, I faced Jin Longqing and Jin Daya.”
Nan You was stunned. “That’s impossible! When would the family patriarch… Uh, we should report this to the family right away. If they take action, our family will suffer greatly.”
Guo Shier said, “It’s okay. Nan Ming and Nan Zhi Chun are already back. They’ll probably report it.”
Nan You wondered, “Huh? How do you know them?”
Guo Shier smiled. “I met them on the way. I fought against Jin Longqing and Jin Daya too, then we came back to the camp together. We just separated. Heh, I captured over seventy disciples of the Gu Jin family.”
Nan You couldn’t believe it, but he knew it couldn’t be a lie since Nan Ming and Nan Zhi Chun were there. He shook his head vigorously and said, “I… You… When…?” He scratched his head and continued, “Jin Longqing? That guy is a powerful figure in the Gu Jin family. You fought him? And you made it back alive?”
Guo Shier called out, “Hey! Am I that terrible?”
Nan You thought it was already quite remarkable that Guo Shier had managed to escape back; he never expected him to be able to chase after Jin Longqing as well. He said, “Well, it’s good that you’re back. Jin Longqing is among the strongest in the Gu Jin family—he’s a really formidable guy.” He was convinced that Guo Shier had escaped back.
Guo Shier was too lazy to argue. He asked, “Uncle Luo, how’s Uncle Eagle Demon? Did he advance smoothly? Are there any changes?”
Luo Zhan smiled and said, “He’s already advanced smoothly. He’s still in the stabilization phase now. There’s no major problem—just needs time, haha.”
Guo Shier nodded and said, “I’ll go in and take a look.”
He quietly entered the room and saw Eagle Demon sitting on the ground, with a palm-sized altar hanging above his head, emitting a faint magical glow. It looked like a miniature cake, with a circular altar already formed. Unlike a solid altar, this virtual altar was made of semi-transparent jade, not as clear as a solid one.
Numerous virtual talismans flowed within the virtual altar, making it appear even more beautiful and dazzling, though not as stable or simple as a solid altar.
Eagle Demon kept his eyes closed, continuously casting spells to strengthen the altar. At the top of the altar hung a golden long sword and a six-bladed wheel—a sacred artifact inherited from the ancient Mi Luo family, obtained in the Tan Ya Secret Realm. Initially, Guo Shier got the Xie Baina Pearl, the Flame Sacred Artifact, while Eagle Demon got the six-bladed wheel. Of course, he couldn’t use it yet, as its grade was extremely high.
Guo Shier slowly sat down and began reciting scriptures. His soul fluctuated, and Eagle Demon immediately knew Guo Shier had arrived. He slightly opened his eyes, nodded, then closed them again, continuing to cast spells one after another.
With Guo Shier helping to stabilize his soul, Eagle Demon was very pleased. The cultivation process had left him exhausted both physically and mentally. As Guo Shier’s soul fluctuations helped, he gradually recovered, and his speed of casting spells also increased. However, it was still far behind Guo Shier’s speed—completely incomparable. Since he had always relied on physical combat, never using methods like virtual talismans, he had to learn to cast spells if he wanted to advance.
After a while, Guo Shier stopped reciting and watched Eagle Demon clumsily cast a series of virtual talismans, feeling at peace. He knew that once Eagle Demon overcame this hurdle, his strength would improve greatly.
After sitting for a few hours, Guo Shier quietly left the room. In a few more days, Eagle Demon would be able to go out as well.
Returning to the courtyard, Luo Zhan asked, “How did it go?”
Guo Shier smiled and said, “No problems. Uncle Eagle Demon will be out soon. Hehe, Uncle Luo, you need to hurry too. Once you advance, the three of us will be strong enough.”
Luo Zhan frowned and said, “Sigh, I still have no idea…”
Nan You laughed and said, “What’s the rush? Do you think advancing to the Void Form Altar is easy? Countless professionals have gotten stuck at this stage.”
Luo Zhan sighed in frustration, “I know. Sigh, I thought reaching the level of Great Sage would be enough, but now that there’s a chance to advance to the Void Form Altar, I don’t know what to do.”
Guo Shier and Nan You burst into laughter.
Luo Zhan said, “Forget it. Just take it one step at a time. I can’t even guarantee I’ll advance.” He knew well that if he had stayed at the Chenxiao Sect or the Beifu Gate, he might not have reached the Sage level yet. Fortunately, he had stubbornly followed them out and seen just how vast the outside world was.
Guo Shier said, “Don’t worry, Uncle Luo. You’ll definitely advance. Hehe, with me and Old Handsome around, I don’t believe you can’t advance.” He spoke with full confidence.
Luo Zhan was stunned for a moment before becoming excited. “Okay.” Of course, he knew Old Handsome’s capabilities—that guy was a freakish old man with extremely powerful skills and vast knowledge. With him around, it was impossible for them to fall behind.
Nan You envied him and said, “Sigh, Old Luo, you’re so lucky. Back then… I had no one to help me advance. It was pure luck that I managed to get through that stage.”
Guo Shier said, “Stop sighing. Come with me to see the Ancestor. Uncle Luo, you stay here. These next few days are crucial—don’t let anyone disturb us.”
Luo Zhan nodded in agreement. “It’s fine. With me here, no one will disturb us.”
Guo Shier took Nan You to where Ancestor Nan Qiang lived.
As soon as they reached the door, they heard arguments coming from inside.
