Chapter 10: Overpowering Attack (Part 2)
Crack! Boom…
Guo Shier was flung backward, spewing blood all the way. The man in red fared even worse—the Moon Blade shattered his life talisman sword, severely damaging his soul, causing him to also spit out blood. Eagle Demon and Luo Zhan charged at him desperately; upon seeing Guo Shier bleeding, they went wild. The Ancient Flame Sparrow cried out sharply and transformed into a ball of flame, charging straight at him.
Eagle Demon was extremely fierce. He thrust his sword into the man in red’s chest from close range, ignoring his counterattacks entirely. Luo Zhan slashed from behind, and the man in red barely managed to dodge, only for the blade to slice into his neck. Immediately afterward, the Ancient Flame Sparrow crashed into his chest, setting his body ablaze in an instant.
The poor man in red was beaten to death by the two men and the bird.
Eagle Demon also spat blood from the man in red’s counterattacks, but he paid it no mind and turned to fly toward Guo Shier.
It was the first time Guo Shier had encountered such a ferocious enemy. He couldn’t stay suspended in the air and could only slowly descend, sheathing his Moon Blade before sitting down. His soul was in chaos, so he immediately began reciting scriptures. After a while, his soul gradually calmed down. These scriptures were incredibly useful—having them was like carrying top-tier talisman pills with him.
Eagle Demon didn’t dare disturb Guo Shier. He sat behind him, on guard. Listening to the recitation, his soul stabilized, and his injuries healed rapidly.
The Ancient Flame Sparrow landed on Guo Shier’s shoulder. It seemed to understand that Guo Shier was healing, so it remained silent, lying quietly on his shoulder.
…
Meng Ran never expected Kuumu to be so strong. After a few exchanges, he realized Kuumu’s strength—slightly weaker than his own, but definitely capable of matching him. Hurting him would be extremely difficult, unless he were willing to suffer mutual damage, which was absolutely impossible.
Monier was in a similar situation against her opponent—both were evenly matched, leading to a stalemate. Both sides waited for their allies to free up and come to their aid. But in just a short while, Guo Shier killed the gray-robed old man first, followed by the man in red, which terrified Meng Ran.
Seeing Guo Shier stand up, Meng Ran shouted loudly and cast a series of phantom talismans, saying, “Let’s go!”
Kuumu sneered, “Go? Where?”
Guo Shier had already rushed to Monier’s side, shouting, “Masteress, you and Master… leave this man to us!”
Meng Ran was terrified, sweating profusely. Kuumu and Monier combined were strong enough to overwhelm him. Of course, he wasn’t that foolish—he turned around and ran away.
Withered Wood and Monier chased after them.
Guo Shierun unleashed his Moon Blade. The young man in golden clothes shouted at Monier, “Hey, beauty, you’re mine!” He rushed to chase after her, but Guo Shierun’s Moon Blade blocked his path. Guo Shierun then roared, “Stop!”
The young man spoke in a mocking tone, “Kid, is that your old lover? Why such haste…” Before he could finish, Guo Shierun’s Moon Blade swung down: “You bastard! I’ll kill you!”
Guo Shierun had indeed killed his two accomplices with his Moon Blade, but this man was different—he was an intermediate Grand Sage, far stronger than Guo Shierun. In a frivolous tone, he said, “Kill me? Go ahead and try!” Though he felt a bit nervous, knowing he had a slight advantage, he didn’t want to engage further and planned to find an opportunity to escape.
A spinning thorn ball appeared, suddenly expanding like a curled hedgehog, and rushed at the Moon Blade with a buzzing sound. Countless virtual talismans shot out from its spikes, wrapping around the Moon Blade. Guo Shierun felt as if he were slashing through a tangled fishing net; the Moon Blade lost its speed and slowly descended onto the thorn ball.
Guo Shierun sneered and ordered, “Separate!”
The Moon Blade retained most of the characteristics of his life talisman sword, so this spell was very effective. In an instant, it transformed into thousands of tiny Moon Blades, swirling around and sliding past the thorn ball before surging like a storm toward the young man.
The man was shocked and vanished from his spot, reappearing ten meters away. Before he could react, he was punched in the back. Eagle Demon exhaled forcefully and delivered a brutal punch to the man’s chest. Since the man happened to be right in front of him, failing to take advantage of such an opportunity would be a waste.
Bang!
Although the man was an intermediate Grand Sage, he was a Talisman Sage. Attacked up close by Eagle Demon, a Talisman-Warrior Sage, he suffered greatly and was knocked to the ground with a single punch. Eagle Demon wouldn’t stop after just one punch—his attacks were sequential: one punch followed by a kick. The man didn’t even have time to draw his own life talisman weapon and could only fend off with his fists and feet.
The man let out continuous screams. The first punch stunned him, nearly breaking his defensive talisman armor, while the next kick made him spit out blood. Numerous punches and kicks rained down on him, sending him plummeting from the air to the ground. Eagle Demon continued to pounce relentlessly.
Seeing the man fall, Guo Shierun was overjoyed. Without hesitation, he unleashed the Giant Perching Dragon, the Dark-Winged Demon Scorpion, and the Blade Shadow Mantis. Though these Spirit Beasts and Spirit Insects couldn’t kill their opponent, they could assist in the attack.
The man roared, and suddenly a stabbing ball appeared in front of the Eagle Demon. Just as the Eagle Demon kicked out, it pierced the bottom of his foot, sending him flying backward with a scream.
After the Giant Perch Dragon appeared, it swung its thick tail across. With his back to the dragon, the man didn’t notice and was struck by the tip of its tail, launching him into the air where he crashed into a large tree. Immediately afterward, a Dark-Winged Scorpion emerged from the forest, its upright tail shooting out with a sharp stinger aimed at the man’s chest.
The series of attacks caught the man off guard. Crying out, he flew into the air, but it was still too late—he was pierced in the buttocks by the venomous stinger on the scorpion’s tail, causing him to scream in pain as he was flung far away. The scorpion’s tail was extremely thick, with a stinger thicker than an adult’s thigh, which immediately created a large hole in the man’s buttocks. Worse still, the stinger was highly poisonous.
Pain-stricken and dizzy, the man suddenly saw a dark shadow flash before him and instinctively used teleportation. There was a tearing sound, and a large crack appeared on his back. The Knife Shadow Mantis had succeeded in its ambush.
Luo Zhan had already rescued the Eagle Demon and was busy stopping the bleeding and bandaging him. Guo Shier stared in shock. He hadn’t expected the Giant Perch Dragon, the Dark-Winged Scorpion, and the Knife Shadow Mantis to be so fierce, dealing such severe damage to the man in an instant and forcing him to flee in terror. The man was completely terrified; he never imagined he would face so many attacks.
In fact, Guo Shier had been severely injured while fighting the first two opponents. Although he had managed to ease some of his injuries by reciting mantras, his strength had greatly diminished, leaving him no match for the man. Relying on deception and sheer desperation, he planned to outlast his opponent until Kuumu and Monier returned as a victory. Who would have thought that the Eagle Demon’s sudden outburst would become the turning point of the battle? The Spirit Beast and Spirit Worm, working together, managed to inflict heavy damage on their opponent. But Guo Shier no longer had the strength to chase after them and could only watch helplessly as the man escaped.
Guo Shier slowly sat down and sighed, “What a pity!” He knew letting the man escape would bring them a lot of trouble.
Luo Zhan helped the Eagle Demon over, and Guo Shier said, “Uncle Eagle Demon, I have talisman pills here, both for internal and external use. Uncle Luo, please help treat him.” He handed the talisman pills to Luo Zhan and took one himself. It was then that he felt a burning pain in his chest.
Since coming to this world, it was the first time he had suffered such a severe setback. Fortunately, he won; if he had lost, the consequences would have been disastrous. He had just received the inheritance and hadn’t had time to process it yet. His strength relied entirely on the Moon Blade. Thankfully, he had crafted the Moon Blade to replace his original talisman sword; otherwise, it would have been very difficult for him to pass this trial.
Eagle Demon sighed, “Challenging someone of a higher rank… it’s really risky. If it weren’t for our large number and seamless coordination, we would have suffered a huge loss,” he said, still shaken.
Luo Zhan ran outside and soon returned with a pile of talisman bags. “It’s a pity—the two of them lost their talismans. We didn’t have time to grab them. Only the talisman bags on their bodies remain. I doubt there’s anything important in them.” It turned out he had gone to search the dead man’s pockets.
Guo Shier said, “Keep them for now. We can take a look later. I wonder if Master and Masteress have caught up with that guy.”
Eagle Demon said, “That man is truly cunning. He set a trap for others to fall into.”
Guo Shier said, “Even if that man goes in himself and sees the stone tablet and altar, he will surely climb up to receive the inheritance… but that’s also a dead end!”
Eagle Demon nodded. “If that man escapes, he might avoid disaster, but he certainly won’t thank us. Instead, he’ll hate us deeply.”
Guo Shier said, “Let’s heal first and wait for Master and Masteress to return.” He was confident that Master and Masteress could handle a high-level Great Sage Master. Even if he went after them, it wouldn’t help much, as the gap in strength was too great. He wasn’t arrogant enough to think he could deal with a high-level Great Sage Master.
…
Meng Ran hadn’t gone far before being chased bydead wood -> dead wood. He had no choice but to turn and fight back. Monier also arrived soon after and immediately joined forces withdead wood -> dead wood to attack. Both of them knew clearly that this man must not be allowed to stay. Since they didn’t know what tricks he might have used to trackdead wood -> dead wood’s movements, if he escaped and invited experts to launch a surprise attack, dead wood -> dead wood would be in danger.
Even though Meng Ran was a high-level Great Sage Master, dead wood -> dead wood wasn’t afraid at all. He waved his hand, conjuring a series of purple virtual talismans, and shouted, “Envelop!” The purple virtual talismans instantly turned into chains that flew toward Meng Ran’s body.
Monier made an empty gesture with her hand, and a golden spear appeared. She threw it forward while spewing a burst of purple talisman fire onto it, instantly setting the entire spear ablaze. With a sharp cry, she shouted, “Go!” The spear streaked through the air like a meteor chasing the moon, aiming straight at Meng Ran.
As the chains neared Meng Ran’s body, the javelins, accompanied by purple flames, rushed forward as well. The combined power of the two was astonishing. Meng Ran’s expression changed drastically; his body staggered, and he disappeared from his original position. He teleported away and reappeared a hundred meters away.
Ku Mu pointed at the chains and shouted, “You can’t hide!” The chains flew forward as if they were alive.
Monier pointed at the javelins, and the flaming javelins soared into the sky before turning and diving straight down at Meng Ran.
Meng Ran cursed loudly. Despite teleporting several times, he couldn’t escape their attacks. Finally, unable to bear it any longer, he screamed, “I’ll fight you guys to the death!”
Ku Mu snorted coldly, “Despicable bastard. I’m waiting!”
