Chapter 8: Ancient Talismans (Part 2)
Fuye Chen burst into loud laughter. Nodding, he said, “Good! Even if you’re a talisman master, I’m not afraid. Let alone just a talisman artisan—haha, come on!”
Guo Shier said calmly, “If… I happen to win, will you let us go?”
Fuye Chen acted as if he’d heard the funniest joke. With a mocking smile, he replied, “Of course!”
Guo Shier stepped back a few times. His only option now was that bird talisman, the one engraved with a flame bird. Since he had never tried it before, he didn’t know what effect it would have or how to control it, so he hadn’t dared to use it during the battle. After talking to Fuye Chen, he finally had a chance. No matter what the talisman’s effect was, it would give him a way to proceed or retreat.
If he won, there was nothing to worry about. Even if he lost, it wasn’t terrifying—he could just surrender. He didn’t mind surrendering. In this bizarre world, survival came first; as long as he stayed alive, he had a chance.
Luo Zhan and the other five Talisman Warriors were pale. They couldn’t believe Guo Shier still had a chance. With the strength of a top-tier Talisman Warrior, he could easily dispel any talisman attack.
Guo Shier said, “Please correct me if I’m wrong!” He appeared very calm.
Fuye Chen muttered to himself, unable to believe that a nine-year-old could be so composed. Nodding, he said, “Good! Come on! I won’t bully you! I won’t attack first, but I won’t back down either. If I retreat, it counts as your win.”
Guo Shier began activating the bird talisman. He didn’t dare to spit out his life talisman sphere; instead, he activated it by holding it in his mouth. Fortunately, the life talisman sphere could be made large or small. Thus, to everyone’s eyes, his attack seemed strange—only a red line shot straight out of his mouth.
Guo Shier wasn’t satisfied. Activating this talisman took too long—forty or fifty seconds at least. If his opponent attacked first, he wouldn’t have time to activate it.
After emerging, the red line expanded into an egg-shaped red ball. Fuye Chen was stunned and burst into laughter.
The red egg flew a foot before suddenly exploding. A cute little bird flew out, chirped once, and quickly grew into a large bird a foot long. The transformation from egg to adult bird happened within two meters—extremely fast—but everyone saw it clearly, finding it very strange.
The adult bird was beautiful, with emerald feathers and a slender body. As it flapped its wings slightly, sparks flew out, and its entire body ignited in flames. Then came a piercing cry.
Fu Yechen’s expression changed drastically. He shouted, “True Ancient Talisman!” He didn’t dare resist and quickly stepped back. Unfortunately, the firebird was incredibly fast, charging straight at him with a long, sharp beak from which a thin stream of flame emerged. Fu Yechen was so terrified that his hair stood on end. He reached at his waist, and immediately a talisman shield appeared in front of him, blocking the flame. The thin stream of fire hit the shield with a crackling sound!
The thin stream of fire actually caused the talisman shield to explode. Fu Yechen got a brief respite. He discarded the broken shield, reached at his waist again, and drew a talisman sword. With a loud cry, he swung the sword at the firebird.
The firebird let out a proud cry, flapped its wings violently, and sent countless sparks flying toward Fu Yechen, like tiny meteors, lighting up the entire cave.
Guo Shier was shocked to find that the firebird had gone beyond his control and was fighting against Fu Yechen on its own.
Fu Yechen was in a desperate situation. He realized he couldn’t even touch the sparks flying from the firebird—they were terrifying. They had already destroyed two advanced talisman weapons. All he had now was the talisman spear he had just taken out. He knew he had lost. Not to mention beating Guo Shier, escaping would already be considered lucky. He stepped back toward the cave entrance, threw the talisman spear away, and ran away.
The firebird simply turned slightly to avoid it, then raised its head proudly and cried, seemingly very satisfied.
Guo Shier felt something stir in his heart. He inhaled sharply, and the firebird let out an unwilling cry before turning into a thin red line and returning to the bird talisman.
Luo Zhan stared in shock, unable to believe his eyes. After a long while, he let out a strange laugh. The other talisman warriors also looked at Guo Shier as if he were a monster. Xiao Feng sighed, “No wonder the old man said you’re a freak!”
Huo Bao’s eyes were filled with admiration as he asked, “Shier, what kind of bird is this? Why is it so powerful?”
Guo Shier didn’t answer. He was immersed in extreme joy. He now understood that it wasn’t just a matter of whether the talisman had spirit or not—it had its own life. After flying out, the firebird could fight on its own. Even after winning, it wouldn’t disappear but return to the talisman. He now realized that the four talismans in the bird talisman could actually release four firebirds to fight. How powerful could that be? He couldn’t imagine it.
Fu Yechen had just shouted “True Ancient Talisman.” Although Guo Shier wasn’t sure, he knew this talisman was at least a True Spirit Talisman. He never expected that just one talisman could defeat a top-tier talisman warrior.
Luo Zhan suddenly spat out a mouthful of blood while laughing. He slowly sat down, holding his chest, with a look of relief on his face. Guo Shier was shocked and quickly supported Luo Zhan, shouting, “Uncle Luo! Uncle Luo… how are you?” He frantically took out a blood talisman pill and said, “Eat this quickly!”
Guo Shier had many healing talisman pills, so he immediately began to treat them. All five talisman warriors were injured.
Yan Geqi asked, “Shier, how do you have so many talisman pills?”
Guo Shier smiled and said, “I made them myself. Hehe, just for fun. I didn’t expect to use them.”
Yan Ge was stunned for a moment before sighing, “I believe it!”
Guo Shier asked in surprise, “Uncle, what do you believe?”
Yan Ge replied, “I believe what the old man said. You… you’re truly a freak!”
Guo Shier didn’t know what to say for a while before finally saying, “If I weren’t a freak, we’d all be doomed!”
Everyone’s eyes were filled with smiles. Yan Ge said, “Shier, don’t be upset. Calling you a freak is a compliment.” He couldn’t help but laugh, and everyone else joined in. They were laughing to express their relief at having escaped death.
Guo Shier said with a bitter smile, “Stop laughing. We’re not out of danger yet. If Fuye Chen comes back, he’ll fight with all his might… none of us can stop him.”
Luo Zhan was surprised, “How is that possible? He was already defeated!”
Xiao Feng said, “Shier… I trust Shier’s judgment. Fuye Chen definitely won’t accept defeat. And once he returns, as long as he sorts out his thoughts a bit, he’ll know our weaknesses. He was just stunned for a moment.”
Guo Shier nodded, thinking, “If Fuye Chen comes back again, it will be our end.”
…
Fuye Chen retreated in disarray. He never could have imagined that Guo Shier had such a rare treasure. Even among them, True Ancient Talismans were extremely rare treasures, yet here they were on a child. What annoyed him the most was that that nine-year-old child could actually use a True Ancient Talisman—what a truly extraordinary child.
A greedy glint appeared in Fuye Chen’s eyes. He glanced at the entrance of the cave before turning to leave. Earlier in the cave, he had already studied the terrain clearly—it was a dead end with no other way out. So he decided to retreat temporarily to think about his next move.
Yuan Ya Ada came up and asked, “Old man, have you resolved it?”
Fuye Chen was furious inside. Hearing this, he roared, “Get out of the way! There are only five Symbol Warriors and five kids, yet so many died! They’re all useless idiots!”
Fuye Ada was also confused for a moment. He said cheerfully, “Elder, have you already killed them? Any captives?”
Fuye Chen’s face turned red instantly. He rushed over, slapped him hard, sending Fuye Ada spinning in place. Holding his face, Fuye Ada was too shocked to speak. He simply couldn’t understand why the elder would hit someone.
“Everyone, stay right here! No one leaves, no talking—just wait!”
Fuye Chen walked up to a hunting cart and shouted, “Get the hell down from there!” A few disciples stumbled down. Without even looking at them, he climbed into the cart and closed his eyes in deep thought.
The disciples of the Fuye family stood there, at a loss. Fuye Ada’s face showed clear five finger marks. He still wondered why the elder hit him—had the elder suffered a loss in the cave? At that thought, he was shocked. Could there be a master-level person in the cave? That didn’t make sense either. If there were a master-level person, they shouldn’t have hidden in the cave in the first place; it was a clear sign of weakness. He couldn’t figure it out.
Fuye Ada couldn’t understand at all and grew impatient. He took a step, about to say something, when he heard Fuye Chen shout, “Who told you to move! Stay standing for me…”
Fuye Ada was completely stunned. Today, the elder seemed like he’d taken an explosive talisman—starting with curses. He didn’t dare argue with the elder. Fuye Chen was both an elder of the clan and a great Symbol Warrior. Killing him would be as easy as killing a chicken. He stood there dejectedly, not daring to move.
All the disciples stood there like wooden statues, not daring to move, speak, or even cough. Their faces were grim, as if they were carved from clay.
A few hours later, Fuye Chen stepped out of the hunting cart with a gloomy expression. He said, “Stay standing still. Wait for me to return!” He walked step by step into the cave. Once inside the passage, he quickened his pace and soon reached the last cave.
Guo Shier and the other ten people were sitting on the ground. When Fuye Chen appeared at the cave entrance, Guo Shier stood up and said, “It’s hard to find someone who keeps their promises in this world!” He knew he couldn’t activate the Bird Talisman again. The other party would never give him enough time. With the strength of a great Symbol Warrior, they could kill him in an instant.
Sure enough, Fuye Chen said in a low voice, “Don’t even try to use that ancient talisman. Or don’t blame me if I kill you right away!”
