Chapter 472: Revenge (Part 2)

Nightingale’s words left Viper speechless. His face turned pale as he glared fiercely at Rod and Nightingale, a look of despair flashing in his eyes.
“Stand up like a man!” Seeing Viper’s state, Nightingale frowned deeply. She wanted to defeat him fairly and justly.
Hearing her words, Viper roared in anger, swinging his long sword, sending hundreds of sword flashes like rain toward Nightingale.
“Snake Dance!” With a complex expression in her eyes, Nightingale cried out and charged forward again.
Her Bone Whip twirled in her hands like living ice, producing a thunderous sound that made one’s scalp tingle.
It was somewhat absurd—this move had been created by Viper to help her back then, yet now it was being used against him. This made Nightingale’s feelings extremely complicated; she never expected this to happen.
Snap, snap, snap… Crisp sounds came from where the whip swept, and cracks like spiderwebs spread across the ground as it groaned.
The battle was intense once more. Within just a few minutes, Viper lay on the ground, covered in blood and in tattered clothes, groaning in pain. He was no longer recognizable as a human. His long sword, broken into two pieces by Nightingale, lay scattered on the ground, its blade covered in dents.
At this point, the battle was over, and Rod felt relieved. Viper no longer had any ability to resist. Against Nightingale, his strength seemed utterly insignificant. If he had known what would happen today, would he have done the same? Rod wondered curiously. Unfortunately, there was no remedy for regrets in this world.
“N-Nightingale! I’m… I’m your second brother!” Seeing Nightingale approaching step by step, Viper shouted with his last strength, hoping she would spare his life out of pity. He was truly terrified.
“Second brother?” Repeating those words, Nightingale wore a cold smile.
“You’re my second brother? Then who killed my first brother? And my third brother? Did you think of them as your brothers when you killed them? If I had been there, you would have killed me without hesitation, right?” With a cold laugh, Nightingale stepped beside Viper and stood in front of him, her tone angry and icy. Thinking of her first brother and Crow, anger burned within her.

“I… I really didn’t mean to. I didn’t want to either, but… but I had no choice!” For a moment, Viper was speechless; after struggling to speak, he said anxiously.
“Didn’t want to? Hahaha… You didn’t want to? But you still killed Brother Eldest and Brother Third. If you didn’t want to, then why did you do it?” Nightingale demanded angrily, growing more and more desperate to kill this guy the more she spoke.
“I was forced by the Secret Group. You know their strength. We failed our mission back then and went into hiding, but the organization was hunting us to kill us. Eventually, the Secret Group found us. They threatened me—I had no choice! They said if we didn’t submit to the demons and help them invade the continent, they’d kill us. I was forced! I really didn’t want to kill Brother Eldest and the others. I went to Brother Eldest and Crow and told them, but they immediately opposed it. The Secret Group was there too, so in the end, I had no choice but to kill them!” Viper said anxiously, hoping to salvage even a shred of hope for himself, looking pitiful and pleading. Faced with death, he was crushed once again.
“The Secret Group… Hahaha… So you killed Brother Eldest and Brother Third for yourself?” Nightingale sneered—a painful smile, one that came from extreme anger.
“I…”
“Enough!” She interrupted Viper, who tried to keep arguing, her gaze icy cold. Suddenly, amid Viper’s screams and horrified expression, she pulled out the weapon that Brother Eldest had given her long ago and swung it down!
Ah… A scream followed, a pig-like howl tearing through the peaceful night sky. The miserable cries sent chills down Rod and the others’ spines.
Seeing Nightingale’s actions, Jim and the others were puzzled. Viper wasn’t dead—he had been struck in the lower abdomen, blood flowing from where his dantian should be!
“This sword is to repay Brother Eldest for you!” Recalling how Brother Eldest’s body had been pierced in the dantian when he first saw it, Nightingale’s gaze grew even colder. This was her way of repaying Viper.
Without giving Viper a chance to breathe, she swung several more swords in quick succession. Screams continued as Viper’s tendons in his hands and feet were severed instantly!
“This is from Brother Third!” Nightingale also repaid some of the wounds that had been on Crow before.
At this moment, Viper was like a dead man—pale, sweating profusely, his body convulsing and screaming in agony.

After finishing these tasks, after a moment of hesitation, Nightingale sheathed her long sword and turned to head outside. Surprisingly, she didn’t kill the Viper Snake. But since she did this, Rod and the others said nothing; instead, they felt somewhat relieved—Nightingale hadn’t let hatred cloud her mind. Looking at the Viper Snake struggling on the ground with weak breaths, no one felt even a hint of pity. Betrayers deserved the consequences they incurred. The current situation was simply the result of their own actions.

Seeing Nightingale walk away, Rod led Jim and the others to hurry after her.

Once they left the mansion and arrived on the quiet streets, Nightingale finally let out a long sigh. Tears streamed down her face as she stared ahead, murmuring softly—so quietly that it was hard to hear. Perhaps only Rod’s exceptional hearing could catch it. She said, “Big brother, I’ve finally avenged you all. It was Second Brother who did this! I didn’t kill him. Will you blame me? But I really couldn’t bring myself to do it. I still remember the days we spent together. I truly couldn’t do it… Am I useless? I didn’t kill him; I just returned your injuries to him. Even if he survives, he’ll be a waste from now on. Can we let it go? Let him just live an ordinary life!”

Hearing these words, Rod stopped in his tracks, finally realizing that Nightingale was still the same Nightingale!

The group walked forward in silence. At dawn, they finally returned to the palace, which was still quiet.

When they returned to their small courtyard, Nightingale seemed to gradually calm down, her expression softening. Wiping the tears from her face, she asked, “Am I useless?”

When alone with Rod, Nightingale showed her vulnerable side. Despite her outward strength, she had a tender heart that easily got hurt.

Shaking his head, Rod smiled slightly and patted her head from behind. “No. I’m glad you could do this. You didn’t let hatred blind you. Doing what you ought to do is enough. There’s still a long life ahead.”

“Mm, life will be better from now on!” Nightingale nodded obediently, resting her head on Rod’s chest with a happy smile. As long as this man was by her side, what was there to fear or worry about?

After a long while, Rod heard Nightingale’s steady breathing. With a bitter smile, he thought to himself—how could this girl just fall asleep like that? It seemed the stress from this incident had truly exhausted her. Seeing her in this state, Rod let out a long sigh and held her tightly in his arms as they headed back to the room. After settling Nightingale down and seeing her soundly asleep, Rod felt a bit amused. No matter how strong she seemed outside, she was still a woman—a fact many overlooked. Though strong on the outside, her heart was soft, always hiding that side of herself. Only in front of him, in situations like today, would she reveal it. Viper was now dead, and Nightingale’s revenge seemed avenged—this matter was finally over. Once matters on the continent were resolved, he would take her somewhere to relax for a while. Soon, the War between Gods and Demons would begin again. If possible, Rod really didn’t want her to get involved in such conflicts again. She deserved to enjoy the time she had lost—she had given too much for hatred, and too much for her former career. Sometimes, Rod wondered how many days in her life Nightingale had actually lived for herself. Thinking of this, his heart grew heavier, as he couldn’t guess how many days it was. He tried to leave, but found that the hem of his clothes was tightly held by the little girl. He had no choice but to sit quietly beside her, watching the sleeping Nightingale, her peaceful expression suggesting that perhaps only at such times was she truly herself. The tears at the corners of his eyes hadn’t dried yet. Gently wiping them away, he sighed once more before sitting cross-legged beside her and beginning to meditate. He didn’t know how long he had been meditating when he felt an itch on his face. Slowly, he opened his eyes to see Nightingale’s playful expression as she used her hair to tickle his face, causing a light itch. Seeing Rod open his eyes, she flashed a sweet smile, shyly lowering her head. But soon, she took a deep breath, raised her head again with unwavering determination, and did something that surprised Rod—she slowly moved closer and pressed her rosy lips against his forehead.

“Alright, let’s go quickly, or Lucy and the others will laugh at me again!” The Nightingale said in a shy tone, pushing Rod gently. Her appearance made Rod’s heart warm, and he almost pushed her. In the end, pulled by the Nightingale, he headed toward the door. During that time, Rod indulged in his craving for smoking, much to Ada’s outrage, which caused quite a fuss.
