Chapter 471: Revenge (Part 2)
“Do you still remember me?” Nightingale removed her mask and stared coldly at the man. As for the woman, she didn’t even glance at her, let alone pay attention to her furious screams. Her gaze remained fixed on the man. Upon seeing the truth, her heart sank—yes, it was him! Though unwilling, Nightingale had to accept this fact.
“Nightingale!” The man screamed in shock upon seeing her, his eyes wide open, clearly unexpecting her to be here! Finally, he understood what had happened.
“Naitrod!” He cried out again when he saw the man beside Nightingale.
Although he was on the continent, he had sided with the pro-war faction and knew somewhat about the affairs within the Source of Darkness. Who was the most popular now? Undoubtedly, it was Rod. How could he have imagined that he would also appear here?
Legends about him had become exaggerated, with him even being vaguely called the strongest in the Source of Darkness. One could imagine just how terrifying his strength was. To think he had come here and was standing beside Nightingale—it was obvious he was here to kill her as well.
“Didn’t expect this, did you? Didn’t expect me to be here, right?” Nightingale continued, staring coldly at the man.
“Nightingale, you… you’re still alive. I…”
She stopped him from speaking right away. “Don’t try to explain anything to me. I already know everything about you!”
“What do you mean? These past few years, I’ve…” Hearing her words, the man was clearly stunned and spoke anxiously.
“Stop explaining! Don’t think I don’t know what you’ve done. Today, I’ll make you pay with your blood!” Nightingale interrupted him again, her killing intent radiating intensely, causing the temperature in the room to drop sharply.
“What do you want to do?” Seeing Nightingale’s reaction, the man realized it was useless to continue explaining. His expression turned icy as he asked.
“What do I want to do? For my brother’s death, for Crow’s death—if I hadn’t happened to be out at the time, I would’ve died too! Viper, I never imagined it was you who did this. How did my brother treat you? How did Crow treat you? And yet you…” Mentioning her brother and Crow, Nightingale’s eyes turned red as she roared in anger.
It’s Viper. Yes, it’s Viper, one of the four members back then. It was actually him who killed his own elder brother and Crow. I used to think he too had been killed and even felt sad for him for a long time. Who would have thought it was him who did this? I still couldn’t believe it when Rod told me the news, but now it seems to be true.
“I always thought you were dead, Viper. You hid really well—so well that I had no choice but to believe it. But alas, justice prevails, and I still found out. Didn’t expect that, did you? Today, I’m here to avenge my elder brother!” With a cold snort, Nightingale took out the bone whip from her bosom and glared at him.
“Lady hero, sir, I… I have nothing to do with this! I really don’t know him. I don’t want to die! Please let me go!” The woman lying beside Viper, wrapped haphazardly in a blanket, pleaded to Nightingale and Rod. Her former arrogance was gone, and her anger had vanished in such a situation. She didn’t dare say anything more, only wanting to leave as soon as possible.
From Viper’s tone, it was clear he feared these people. Clearly, the fact that he feared them despite his strength showed just how formidable this group really was.
“Get lost!” Nightingale snapped coldly, not even bothering to look at the woman. She didn’t give such a person any importance; killing her would only dirty her hands.
“Thank you, thank you! I’ll leave right away!” The woman rushed outside as if grasping at a life-saving straw, fearing disaster if she delayed even a moment. She didn’t even have time to put on her clothes; she quickly got up, wrapped herself in a blanket, and ran outside, pale with panic, feeling as if she’d escaped death by a narrow margin. It was contemptible to watch—those who are pitiable must surely have some faults!
“What are you going to do?” Seeing the woman leave, Viper gradually calmed down and glared at Rod and the others.
“Don’t worry. They won’t hurt you. If you can get away from me alive, I’ll never bother with this again!” Nightingale said with a cold laugh as she saw Viper looking at Rod and the others.
“Don’t forget this is the mainland. Killing me won’t end well for you. Rod, the Church is hunting you now. It’s not too late for you to leave. I’ve already sent the signal. If you go now, I won’t pursue you!” A moment later, a cold smirk appeared on Viper’s lips as he spoke to Rod and Nightingale, his gaze drifting toward the door as if waiting for news from his men.
“Your men? They’re all asleep already. How can they send you a signal?” Jim asked sarcastically. “Just a bunch of worthless scoundrels. What can they possibly achieve?”
As for the Church? That’s even more ridiculous. They’re nothing but wolves in sheep’s clothing, pretending to be decent people while hiding their true nature. Now they’re trying to hunt Rod? It’s a complete joke. The divine status of the God King isn’t for nothing. Rod really wants to see what these guys will look like when they face him.
“You… you guys…” With no more cards left, Viper became completely panicked. He quickly stood up, dressed himself in the brief time, and pointed at Rod and the others, his face pale.
“Nightingale, can’t we… talk this out?” Viper pleaded with her.
“Stop talking nonsense. Draw your weapon!” With a cold snort, Nightingale drew her Bone Whip and pointed it at Viper.
“If you don’t want to die, fight. Otherwise, we won’t hesitate to finish you for Nightingale!” Jim threatened, looking fierce, his great sword gleaming with deadly intent.
Seeing that the situation had reached an irreversible point, Viper took a deep breath, a hint of resentment in his eyes. He pulled out his gleaming long sword and, at Nightingale’s signal, stepped into the courtyard. Rod and the others had sealed off all exits, ensuring this guy had no chance to escape.
The two faced each other in the courtyard, and the atmosphere instantly became tense. Nightingale bit her lip tightly, clearly upset.
Watching her, Rod sighed inwardly. Thankfully, he didn’t have to worry about her. Viper’s strength was only at the early stages of the Saint level. It seemed he hadn’t improved at all over those years. Unless something drastic happened, Nightingale wouldn’t be in any danger. Victory was just a matter of time.
The battle broke out quickly, just as expected. Nightingale demonstrated her formidable strength, instantly gaining the upper hand and stunning Viper, who was nearly killed and left in a desperate situation. The courtyard was filled with the clash of swords and blades; the sounds of fighting in the usually peaceful place were particularly harsh. The noise from the battle attracted the attention of the guards in the mansion. Rod and the others didn’t take these guards seriously—Jem could handle them all alone. As for these guards, Jem even dismissed them.
Rod and Ciel watched the battle anxiously. Although Nightingale had the advantage, she didn’t seem determined to kill Viper right away. She had several chances to do so but hesitated, as if waiting for something.
Meanwhile, Viper was utterly panicked and desperate. He could never have imagined that Nightingale, who was once roughly his equal, could grow to such a level in just a few years. She had started at the imperial level, yet now she was on the verge of reaching the divine level. He had thought fighting her might give him a chance to survive, but it turned out to be a dead end, leaving him completely hopeless—his heart plummeting from heaven to hell in an instant.
“Divine level? How is that possible?” After a brief clash, the two parted, and Viper, panting, asked in disbelief. He couldn’t accept this reality. He had no idea what Nightingale had gone through over those years—what kind of experiences could have propelled her to such a height in such a short time? Her strength, while not at the top of the continent, was certainly among the best among warriors. Few could hurt her. And now he, with his own sacred-level power, was fighting her?
“It’s impossible! You can’t have improved this fast! No! It must be you—right? You must have used some dark magic!” Viper, nearly frantic, stared at Nightingale and Rod before fixing his eyes on Rod and shouting in despair. His eyes turned red, showing signs of obsession. He was on the verge of collapse, his mental defenses completely shattered after repeated blows.
“Hmph. Want to know why? Because you’re all dead. My brother is dead, Crow is dead. I thought you were dead too, so I devoted myself wholeheartedly to training to avenge you all.”
Do you know what kind of life I’ve led over these years? Collins Forest and the Source of Darkness are both places where we train. Our opponents are at least magical beasts of the Saint level! We could die at any moment if we’re not careful. And you know why? It’s all because of your hatred.
Funny, hahaha… But I never expected that in the end, my enemy would be you! I even deceived myself, refusing to believe this fact! Hearing Viper’s words, Nightingale suddenly erupted, unleashing all the resentment and dissatisfaction she had hidden in her heart for years, and shouted loudly at Viper.
