Chapter 455: Sensation
The group did not head straight to the Netherworld but instead made their way toward the city lord’s residence established by the Wolf Clan. There were still over ten days before the Netherworld opened, so going there now would be pointless. It was better to wait until then; going now would only lead to frustration.
When it came to frustration, Rod was no less affected than anyone else. After all, those inside were his relatives, including Nightingale. He managed to stay calm, but fortunately, he eventually endured it. With mixed feelings of anxiety, the group headed toward the city lord’s residence. They stood out quite noticeably on the road.
It was unclear how the news of their arrival in Ice City had spread so quickly, but it had already reached every corner of the city. Ice City was now experiencing a scene rarely seen in a hundred years—empty streets. A huge crowd surged toward Rod and his companions, creating a bustling, crowded mess that made it difficult to move.
The crowd included people of all ages and genders. The elders wanted to see this young man who had risen to prominence and created countless miracles. The younger generation wanted to behold Rod’s appearance, to see what this man who had accomplished such extraordinary things looked like, to see their idol. As for the young men, their feelings were more envy than admiration.
The young women, on the other hand, were the most excited. Which girl doesn’t have a prince charming in her heart? Which girl doesn’t have dreams? And which girl doesn’t admire heroes?
This man, who seemed like a god from a fairy tale, now stood before them in reality. How could they not be thrilled? The girls’ screams filled the entire Ice City. The frenzied atmosphere was suffocating, leaving some people at a loss.
Not only the girls but even some married women showed affectionate looks and flirtatious gestures, confusing the men around them. Even more men were angry that their wives had joined such a crowd.
Many youths were jealous as their favorite girls screamed for someone else.
It was a day destined to be extraordinary for Ice City—a day that would be tough for Rod as well. Some bold women even rushed at Rod at that moment. Rod couldn’t reject them forcefully nor accept them casually. For a moment, he experienced the most awkward situation of his life.
Finally, Rod discovered the tragedy of having his first kiss stolen by some madwoman in a fit of frenzy. He had no idea how many kisses from such mad women were left on his body, and he was utterly heartbroken.
By this point, Lilith and Ada were also panicked and quickly started helping Rod defend himself. Lucy and Ada, the two girls, openly showed their jealousy, blocking others with pouted faces and unhappy expressions.
“Move aside! Move aside, quickly!” Heavy footsteps echoed, exuding an air of authority, and only then did the crowd calm down a bit.
Immediately afterward, hundreds of people rushed in like sharp knives, surrounding Rod, Lilith, and their group tightly in the center, separating and dispersing the surrounding crowd.
“Lord Rod!” Some looked at him helplessly, while the Wolf King wore a bitter smile, not knowing what to do.
Struggling to hold back his laughter, Rod’s appearance was indeed rather embarrassed. This made the Wolf King, who had seen him on the battlefield, reflect deeply—“Beauty brings disaster; even heroes struggle against love.” That saying was absolutely true. Looking at Rod now, there was no trace of his once domineering aura from the battlefield; he seemed like a complete loser.
The wolf soldiers were also stunned, not knowing what to do, but under the Wolf King’s command, they quickly dispersed the crowd. It took great effort to stabilize the situation, and it was even more exhausting than fighting a battle. Compared to this, they would rather engage in a fierce battle than face such chaos.
The surrounding crowd remained insane, incited by those leading women. All the girls and women were enraged, charging recklessly. To prevent further trouble, the Wolf King quickly protected Rod and his group as they retreated toward the city lord’s mansion.
Lucy, on the other hand, was already cold-faced, ready to cast a forbidden spell to destroy those who dared to offend Rod. Such things could not happen in Ice City.
The women were mad, while the men were furious—their wives had joined them, and their beloveds were among them. It was unforgivable, but they could do nothing but glare at Rod with murderous intent.
Using all their strength, as if fighting a battle, everyone was drenched in sweat before they could leave the crowded streets and reach the city lord’s mansion.
When they arrived at the city lord’s mansion, several familiar wolf kings welcomed them. Upon seeing Rod, they showed utmost respect. Only Rod and the Wolf Emperor could make these proud and unruly wolf kings submit so completely. The Wolf Emperor relied on his noble and pure lineage, while Rod had a towering presence and terrifying strength—everything that completely impressed the wolf clan.
Of course, Rod’s appearance also made their faces twitch as they tried hard to hold back their laughter. Seeing his awkward look, they felt an urge to burst into laughter. Straining to hold back, their faces turned red, looking extremely ugly.
Led by the wolf kings, they hurried inside the city lord’s mansion because behind them, the female army had already reached the entrance. Rod rushed in without hesitation, leaving the situation outside to the wolf clan to handle.
“Hehe, kid, you sure are lucky in love!” After resting and regrouping inside the mansion, Rod finally recovered.
Standing beside him, Sognar asked in a teasing tone, with an expression that made one want to punch him.
Rod rolled his eyes. There was no need to explain to such people; explanations would only complicate things further.
A cold snort came from Lucy, clearly dissatisfied. This made Sognar wisely shut up. Though he loved to tease, he knew when to speak and when not. Saying anything now would do him no good. Seeing the faint anger in Lucy’s eyes, he wisely stepped aside.
Aida also looked displeased, causing Rod to feel a headache. It seemed everyone could see right through him, which was embarrassing.
Fortunately, at that moment, several wolf kings appeared like saviors before Rod, making him want to hug them tightly. He really wanted to thank these guys, who usually didn’t seem very likable.
Seeing them arrive, Lucy and Aida didn’t say much, ending their complaints with a cold snort.
He didn’t see the Wolf King. To Rod’s surprise, the Wolf King immediately went into seclusion to train right after returning from Water Curtain City! Perhaps inspired by that battle between heaven and earth, or perhaps feeling pressured, this guy was now sparing no effort in training. Rod smiled wryly inwardly and didn’t disturb him. He would surely come out in a few days—after all, they had made that agreement. Even if the Wolf King emerged from seclusion, could he really be expected to stay by Rod’s side 24/7? So a few extra days didn’t matter.
Judging from the tone of the several Wolf Kings, it seemed the Wolf King had been extremely frustrated during this time, otherwise he wouldn’t have rushed into seclusion. These Wolf Kings were also eager for action—the opening of the Gate of Gods and Demons had sparked a strong desire in them to enhance their strength.
In today’s war between gods and demons, the Wolf Clan was no longer a small family from hundreds of thousands of years ago; it could be considered a large family, even comparable to the eight great families from ancient times. Naturally, they wouldn’t be satisfied with just one Wolf King achieving divinity—they wanted more people to do the same.
Rod saw this as a good thing. It was actually convenient that the Wolf King wasn’t around, allowing Rod to spend a few relaxed days in Ice City with a few others.
After a long conversation, the atmosphere among them was harmonious, and everyone seemed very relaxed. The Wolf Kings also told Rod that since the Wolf King’s return, orders had been given to secretly search for the whereabouts of the Demon Soul as much as possible. It was likely that traces of this guy could be found in Ice City—after all, they had fled in that direction. If Water Curtain City existed, then what about Ice City? It was highly probable, so the Wolf King wouldn’t overlook it.
This made Rod somewhat impressed—this guy was really proactive.
By the time the group left, dusk had fallen. Perhaps after an entire afternoon, the expressions of the two women had improved significantly, allowing Rod to breathe a deep sigh of relief!
In the end, at the insistence of the group, Rod sacrificed his evening time to accompany them and enjoy the night views of Ice City.
Reflecting on those night views, Rod was also moved. The first time he came here, he had witnessed magnificent night scenery that remained deeply etched in his memory. Seeing it again seemed like a good choice as well.
That night, to avoid further unnecessary trouble from identity exposure, and at strong suggestions, everyone decided to disguise themselves before setting off. Rod was once again made a laughingstock; the women seemed to do it on purpose, turning him into a complete old man. It was a small act of vicious revenge. Rod could only swallow his anger—what else could he do in front of women? Once again, he lamented how difficult it is to deal with women.
