Chapter 276: Ghosts in the Dead of Night
With both of them at the supreme perfected divine realm, nothing could escape their control under their mental focus! At that moment, they both sensed that faint presence.
Perhaps it could only be said that the guy hiding in the shadows was simply unlucky. It had to be admitted that their concealment skills were excellent. But where was this place? This was the residence of the Dragon Clan, the most powerful branch of the Four Great Families. Aside from their own stronghold, the Dragon Clan had only four other bases outside, one in each of the four major cities of the Demon Clan.
These residences could be considered another stronghold for the Dragon Clan, bearing many of their missions.
Could such a stronghold be simple? Obviously not. It was said that a massive seal had been created through the combined efforts of several Yin Huang-level powerhouses. Ordinary people could hardly detect it; only those inside, drawn by the Dragon Clan’s aura, could sense its existence—provided their strength reached at least the supreme perfected divine realm.
This seal was an intangible existence whose purpose was to detect all auras and signs of life! Especially for those at the supreme perfected divine realm. Even a Yin Huang-level powerhouse hiding here could be detected by them.
Because that invisible seal could expose the aura of those hiding in the shadows! With that, there was no place left to hide. Thus, as soon as these people entered the Dragon Clan’s territory, Rod and Sognar sensed their presence.
The two of them were well-hidden, but their strength was rather weak, probably at the quasi-divine realm, relying merely on special cultivation methods.
Upon discovering this, Rod and Sognar didn’t rush to take action. Instead, they looked at each other, acting as if nothing had happened.
“How about showing them?” Sognar said playfully.
“Whatever!” Rod was indifferent. Since they had guessed the identity of the intruders, there was no need to worry too much.
The York Clan was really fast. They hadn’t expected them to target them so quickly and even dare send people to spy on the Dragon Clan’s residence. Perhaps they had become complacent for too long and had grown corrupt.
“What plans do you have to deal with the York Clan?” The two chatted jokingly, as if discussing something amusing. It was a pity for those two spies in the shadows, who were completely unaware, thinking they were doing well and that they were safe, successfully approaching Rod.
“When soldiers come, we send generals to meet them; when water comes, we use earth to block it. The York family can’t cause much trouble. The Netherworld is about to open—there’s no need to rush to deal with them!” After a moment of thought, Rod stepped forward and spoke in a lowered voice.
It was clear the York family had already formed an irreconcilable feud. Since that was the case, they could only be more cautious these few days. As for after completing the mission in the Netherworld, even if chaos ensued, what could possibly happen?
“Hmm, you’re right. But we do need to be careful these days and not give them any opportunity. Those guys…” Sognar rubbed his head, feeling quite troubled. He wasn’t afraid of gentlemen or heroes—he was afraid of such despicable scoundrels who would strike from behind. That was the most annoying thing of all.
“They probably won’t let you enter the Netherworld smoothly. They’ll try to disrupt things. It’s better to be careful. At worst, just stay inside these few days. If necessary, we could have Lord Gary step in and teach those ignorant brats a lesson!” Sognar added after a pause.
Having reached an agreement, the two were naturally glad for some peace. They pretended not to notice anything, but they left a trace on the two men spying on them. Now, those two were instead under Rod and Sognar’s surveillance. If they tried anything rash, the two would detect it immediately.
The situation had shifted from them being in the dark while the enemy was in the light to the enemy being in the light while they remained hidden. It had all happened in just a few words and moments. By now, the balance of power had completely reversed.
In the dead of night, several figures suddenly appeared at the Dragon Clan’s residence. Kou De, who was practicing in his room, smirked coldly. He looked up at the roof—these guys really couldn’t wait. It seemed he had underestimated them, as they came knocking so soon.
There were eleven of them in total: six god-tier warriors and three quasi-god-tier fighters, plus the two spies from before. Now they were leading the way, having already surrounded Rod’s room. It seemed completely sealed off—they must have invested heavily!
Had they really forgotten that this was the Dragon Clan’s residence? Had they truly forgotten there were Dragon Clan members here? Although the Dragon Clan’s residence was vast, and Rod’s compound was some distance away from where the clan members lived, a large-scale battle would be noticed immediately.
Moreover, with that barrier in place, it was likely that many people had already noticed their arrival the moment they entered.
Rod stopped practicing but remained in his posture, showing no reaction. He quietly waited for these people’s next move.
A tile on the roof was quietly lifted, and a small tube was inserted, followed by a faint fragrance. “Qili Xiang!” Rod’s heart skipped a beat as he realized the danger. Qili Xiang was a substance unique to the Source of Darkness, with a subtle scent that was hard to detect without close observation. It was highly poisonous and extremely rare; even ordinary families could hardly obtain any. It was said that once used, it would prevent the victim from using their combat energy for 24 hours, leaving them weak and unable to stand, at the mercy of others. There was no antidote— the only solution was to endure those 24 hours. It was surprising that they would resort to such things; they were really going all out! Wastrels, wasting such valuable items in such a foolish way—what a shame. An idea struck Rod. While using his energy to resist the effect of Qili Xiang, he pretended to be poisoned, suddenly collapsing on the bed, motionless, with low moans escaping his lips. “Wait, wait a moment!” On the roof, several shadowy figures saw Rod’s reaction and breathed a sigh of relief. But before they could act, one of them spoke cautiously. After waiting about five or six minutes, seeing Rod’s red face, lifeless eyes, and limp body, confirming he was poisoned, the men swiftly jumped down into the courtyard and entered Rod’s room. “You… you guys…” Rod said angrily, looking weakly at them, though his voice was barely audible. “Hehe, Knight Rod, today is the perfect day for our Purple Wing Thunder Eagle clan to take revenge!” One of the men in black removed his mask, revealing the distinctive features of the Purple Wing Thunder Eagle clan, and sneered. “Stop talking nonsense and take him away quickly!” ordered the leader in black. In no time, they tied Rod up and stuffed him into a black bag, taking him away from the Dragon Clan’s residence under the cover of darkness. The moment they left Rod’s room, four figures appeared in his small courtyard. “Hehe, that kid really went all out this time, risking his life. How about we go and watch the show?” one of them said jokingly. “Lord Gary…” followed by a woman’s voice. “It’s fine, nothing will happen—he’s not poisoned! You and Sognar, go and check it out. Be careful!” said the man known as Lord Gary after a moment of thought.
“Well, just the two of you are enough. This time, it’s mostly York who’s involved—let’s deal with it!” A stern expression appeared on the other middle-aged man’s face as he spoke in a deep voice.
As soon as he finished speaking, Sognar and the woman swiftly dashed outside the mansion, moving so quietly that no one else could even notice them.
“Lilith, do you think Zi Yang will be involved?” Sognar asked the woman beside him doubtfully along the way.
“Whatever. If he shows up, we’ll kill him too!” Lilith replied indifferently.
“You’ll kill him?” Sognar asked, looking at her in amusement.
“I will!” she replied firmly, without the slightest hesitation. “If you talk any more, I’ll kill you too!” Her next words nearly drove Sognar crazy.
Realizing that Lilith was truly angry this time, he kept his mouth shut, afraid to say another word. This female demon had gone mad—who could stop her? When had she last lost her temper? That time… The thought made his heart race and he broke into cold sweat!
“It’s just that kid got captured. Is it that serious? It’s nothing serious. He’s stronger than a fox spirit—how could he be captured so easily?” He curled his lips, muttering to himself. It seemed Lilith’s concern for Rod exceeded what most people could understand.
The two followed closely behind those ghost-like figures in black, keeping a certain distance as they moved leisurely. The cool breeze rustled around them, yet the black-clad men didn’t notice them at all. After all, Sognar was now at the divine perfection stage, and Lilith was even more powerful. If they intended to hide, it was difficult even for those at the later stages of the divine realm to detect them.
Soon, they arrived at a small mansion. The black-clad men disappeared there, clearly indicating that this was their final destination—Rod had been taken inside.
“Come here!” Sognar felt a strong pull on him. Turning around, he was relieved to see that the black-clad men were heading toward the mansion from the opposite side, quickly surrounding it and ensuring no one could get in or out. They had almost been discovered.
