Chapter 183: Night Attack on Nash’s Residence
It was only long after Rod left that the old man and Da seemed to realize the crisis had passed. By then, their foreheads were covered in sweat, and their faces appeared pale.
As the tension suddenly eased, the two collapsed onto the ground, leaning on each other as if exhausted, allowing the cool wind to blow over them. They breathed heavily, as if reborn. They had no mood to pay attention to the three corpses of their comrades in the distance; for them, survival was the only thing that mattered.
“That guy is very strong. If he wants to, the two of us…” Thinking of the man hiding in the shadows, who had killed three late-stage Saint-level warriors right under their noses without leaving any trace or noise, Rod realized he could never achieve such a level of skill.
“Let’s go back quickly and tell the family head about this!” Still terrified, Da struggled to get up and spoke urgently.
At that moment, the two ran swiftly toward the residence.
Long after they left, a figure emerged from the shadows. Watching the two departing figures, a cold smile appeared on his lips as he quickly followed them, moving silently and effortlessly.
It was Rod. He hadn’t left. He had planned to leave but turned back less than a hundred meters away. He had overheard some of their conversation. He didn’t care about the rest, but he knew that reinforcements from the Purple-Winged Thunder Eagle clan would arrive in a few days.
In other words, he only had a few days left. He would kill as many as he could during that time; those who survived would just be lucky. Since he had made up his mind, he would start today.
Those three people were merely practice targets. The real action was just beginning.
By following these two, Rod naturally decided to make the Nash family his first target. This family had been the first to hunt him, and more importantly, their strength was inferior to that of the Purple-Winged Thunder Eagle clan, making them easier to deal with.
Rod hadn’t left and instead chose to follow because he didn’t want to waste time, giving the Nash family more time to prepare and defend themselves. That would be no good for him.
On the other hand, there were their own plans and considerations for sending two people back. Taking advantage of today, with the assumption that they would stop after just one attack, they intended to fight hard—kill as many as possible—and definitely sever half of the Nash family’s strength! After following them, Rod hid on the outskirts of the Nash family and waited patiently. Inside the Nash family, the middle-aged patriarch was furious. After barely holding out for three days, they had failed again, and that too under such circumstances. The three members at the late stage of the Saint level, though not in critical condition, were absolutely unforgivable. These forces had been cultivated bit by bit by him—losing one meant losing one less. How could he not feel heartbroken? “Investigate thoroughly! Don’t let that bastard escape—that damned guy! Take some people to retrieve the bodies. I don’t want anyone to know about this. Da, the butler, you two take a few people and search that area thoroughly. I doubt that guy really left no trace at all. I’m going to the Purple Wing Thunder Eagle family!” Truly befitting a middle-aged clan leader, he made arrangements swiftly, deploying troops with ease. Watching teams of people quickly leave the Nash family’s mansion, Rod smirked coldly. He had originally planned to kill a few more from the teams sent to retrieve bodies and investigate clues. Now that they were being so ruthless, he wouldn’t be polite either. With attacks coming from three directions, how much strength could the Nash family still have? This was the perfect time to steal from them. If they discovered this, would the Nash family still have the face to continue operating in Dark Moon City? However, it was said there was an old man within the family—everything had to be done carefully to avoid revealing his whereabouts. Bringing that old man involved would be troublesome; he was said to be at the late stage of the God level! After the three teams had gone far enough, Rod slipped into the Nash family’s mansion like a ghost. A couple of patrol guards wandered around the courtyard from time to time. Hiding quietly behind a rock, Rod waited patiently. After about fifteen minutes, once he had a good understanding of the situation, he moved swiftly, like a ghost in the night, and appeared behind a large tree. A patrol team had already appeared ahead—they were Rod’s targets!
Rod still didn’t dare go to the inner courtyard—that old monster was there, and he wouldn’t gain anything by going. More importantly, there must be many skilled fighters inside. After all, the Nash family was a significant family; it would be impossible for them to lack skilled members. Their stronghold wasn’t that easy to invade. Only he in the outer courtyard could take action.
These two patrol teams were led by two martial artists at the late-stage quasi-divine level, with each team further consisting of two quasi-divine-level warriors and six divine-level warriors. The strength of these two teams should be roughly on par with that of the Nash family. If he could eliminate one of these teams or even kill more people here, what would happen to the Nash family?
This would surely bring shame upon the Nash family, leaving them utterly embarrassed. Thinking of this, Rod felt a surge of pleasure.
As the teams passed by him, hiding behind a large tree, Rod controlled his breathing. Only after they had passed did he reveal himself. Starting from the back, his movements became more aggressive, like a tiger descending from the mountains—once it strikes, it doesn’t try to hide its tracks. Hidden movements can’t truly be concealed.
Not to mention that this was territory of the Nash family’s estate; even in such a confined area, there were few places to hide. The longer he delayed, the more opportunities he gave the enemy. Once the people from the inner courtyard arrived, things would get troublesome.
Whoosh… An arrow pierced through the heart, eliminating one enemy first. Before the others could react, he drew his sword and struck again, killing two more warriors with a single move!
“Assassins…” Only then did those people realize what was happening. But since they were well-trained guards, they didn’t panic. Instead, they shouted loudly and surrounded Rod.
Rod wouldn’t give them a chance. Drawing his Dragon Roar sword, he targeted the leading quasi-divine-level warrior. Killing this man would surely cost the Nash family dearly—this leader was practically equivalent to an entire team. With his intricate movements and terrifying speed, Rod vanished from sight. Before his opponents could react, two more warriors fell. In an instant, he was at the leader’s side.
After all, it was a late-stage quasi-divine-level warrior. Even though Rod’s Dragon Roar was powerful enough to rival mid-stage divine-level warriors and could even compete with late-stage divine-level warriors, the leader managed to hold him back with great effort, underestimating the strength of Rod’s attacks. The injuries he suffered were evident as he flew backward like a kite with its string cut and crashed heavily into the rockery behind him.
In the blink of an eye, six people fell at Rod’s hands—five dead and one injured! Five out of the six holy-grade warriors were dead, with only one left, along with two quasi-divine-grade warriors. As for the leader, he was severely injured and unlikely to be able to fight anymore.
Shouts echoed in the distance, with sparks flying as a group rushed swiftly toward them. Hearing the assassins’ calls, the guards guarding the area flocked over here as well.
“Good!” Rod smirked coldly at the chaotic group. With a cold snort, he exerted all his strength and charged forward like a tiger descending the mountain, plunging into the crowd.
Dark dragons danced, cold light flashed, and a murderous aura filled the air, with the scent of blood filling the entire courtyard.
Cries of pain and curses rang out incessantly, but Rod remained unmoved, his heart as firm as stone. All that remained in his eyes was the desire to kill, the thrill of revenge surging through his body. Countless warriors had died at his hands!
Just then, a terrifyingly powerful presence erupted from deep within the inner courtyard, sweeping in like an unstoppable force, making it difficult for Rod to move!
“Has he appeared? That’s enough for today. I’ll definitely come back to learn from him another day!” Sensing this power, Rod smirked inwardly and muttered to himself. He thrust out a sword swiftly, taking advantage of the brief moment when those around him stepped back. With incredible agility, he slipped through the gaps like air, taking two more lives in his path.
After a few exchanges, he reached the side, where the leader, pale with blood at the corners of his mouth, stood. With a cold snort, Rod swung his sword, claiming another life. Sensing the presence in the courtyard approaching rapidly, he knew the old man had finally couldn’t hold back. He quickly jumped over the wall and fled at top speed into the distance.
“Thief! Don’t run! Stay here!” A furious roar, like thunder striking the ground, made everyone’s ears ache. The moment Rod left, a dark figure appeared in the courtyard, moving like a dragon and a tiger. Seeing the blood and corpses everywhere, he roared loudly before vanishing in a flash, chasing after Rod.
“Damn you, old man! Let’s see how long you can keep up!” After nearly two years of training in the void space, Rod’s speed at the quasi-divine level was already comparable to that of mid-stage divine-grade warriors. Now, at the early divine level, his speed had reached a terrifying level, not far behind the old man behind him. The two figures moved swiftly back to front, with Rod leading the old man as they raced outside the city!
He had originally planned to leave the Nash family’s manor and then ambush a corpse-collecting team there, but it seems that plan has fallen through. This old guy really never gives up; getting rid of him would already be considered lucky.
Rod, however, forgot that if others were willing to talk to him after he broke into their homes and committed acts of robbery and destruction, that would be strange.
