Chapter 176: Flanking Attack
“Hehe, kid, you finally show some manly behavior. It seems you’ve grown up. Come on, I’ll accompany you!” Rod’s words made Sognar beside him pause for a moment before he grinned wickedly, clearly excited.
“You’re the one who’s grown up~!” Rod rolled his eyes and muttered in frustration. He was far more manly than him. It was unclear who had endured such humiliation before and acted as if nothing had happened. Anyway, he couldn’t do it—no real man could.
“You guys go ahead. We girls won’t get involved. Hurry up!” Lilith instructed from the side, then led the other women in another direction.
“Brother Rod… be careful!” Lucy was the only one with a conscience, reminding him before leaving.
With Sognar by his side, Rod strode boldly toward those members of the Purple-Winged Thunder Eagle clan.
“Kid, wait! There are too many people here—it’s hard to act. Let’s go to a place with fewer people!” Sognar pulled back the impulsive Rod and whispered. They were on the busiest street in Dark Moon City, crowded with people. At dusk, the crowd didn’t thin out at all; instead, the approaching night only increased the traffic.
With so many people around, fighting here wouldn’t help. It would only bring big trouble, and it would give their opponents a much better chance to escape.
They had to strike instantly. If they failed and let them escape, waiting for the next chance wouldn’t be as easy.
Nodding in understanding, Rod took a few deep breaths to calm himself down, then followed at a distance behind those men.
Seeing Rod’s composure, Sognar nodded in approval. To remain so calm in the face of mortal enemies, Sognar felt inferior. If it were him, he might have rushed in to fight already.
The three members of the Purple-Winged Thunder Eagle clan weren’t aware of the danger approaching. They seemed excited, strutting around the street as if showing off their identity. Their laughter and conversations could even be heard from afar.
“Heh, Nada, do you think the Dragon clan will go crazy if they find out we didn’t do anything? Hehe, this time, our Purple-Winged Thunder Eagle clan has really gained prestige. I wonder if the Black Phoenix clan and the Dragon clan are furious right now?”
“What’s there to fear? With the young clan leader watching, it’s not us who should worry now—it should be the Dragon Clan and the Black Phoenix Clan. With our Purple Wing Thunder Eagle Clan, the Mi Jiao Clan, and the main combat faction of the Demon Clan allied together, who would dare do anything to us? Didn’t you see how even the trading hall gave us respect? As soon as the clan leader demanded someone, Brother Nada was released—no big deal!”
“That’s true. It’s just a shame about that Rod; he died for nothing, haha…”
“Enough of that talk. That Rod wasn’t bad—he was a notable figure. I don’t want to hear about him anymore!”
“What’s there to fear, brother? He’s just a dead man—no need to worry. But that girl from the Black Phoenix Clan is pretty nice. The young clan leader said we should get her eventually; maybe we can benefit from that too!”
The group ahead chatted and laughed, their voices faintly reaching Rod and Sognar behind them. Hearing this, the two’s faces turned pale, and they felt uneasy.
If it weren’t for a shred of reason keeping them from acting impulsively, they wouldn’t have known what was happening at that moment.
In the blink of an eye, the three followers crossed the main road and arrived on a side street. The three ahead seemed to realize it was getting late and prepared to head back.
“You keep an eye out. I’ll block the path ahead so those bastards can’t take advantage.” After giving this instruction to Rod, Sognar took a shortcut to cut off their route.
Undoubtedly, they were heading back to the Purple Wing Thunder Eagle Clan’s base, and Sognar’s plan was to wait for them there.
With Sognar blocking the way ahead and Rod chasing from behind, those guys would hardly be able to escape, even if they had wings.
One person followed the three across three streets and two side paths until they reached an area with few people. It was entirely residential, but no one was in sight. Night had already covered the land, making the area even more secluded.
It was unclear whether Rod had kept enough distance or if the three guys had no sense of caution at all, as they didn’t notice anything amiss.
About a hundred meters ahead, Rod could already hear Sognar’s voice. He secretly gathered his combat energy, knowing this was his chance—the perfect moment to act.
At that moment, Sognar stood under a large tree ahead, arms crossed, looking relaxed and carefree. One could even imagine the sly smile on his lips.
Perhaps these three members of the Purple-Winged Thunder Eagle clan were truly stupid to the extreme; they paid no attention to Sognar’s arrival and continued walking leisurely ahead. It wasn’t until they reached Sognar’s side and were about to pass by that he suddenly stepped to the side, blocking their path. Only then did they realize something was wrong.
“Who are you?” Nada asked in a low voice, staring at Sognar warily, while signaling the two men beside him to be alert.
“Kid, if you’re smart, get lost! Otherwise, don’t blame us if we become ruthless!” one of the Purple-Winged Thunder Eagles shouted arrogantly. In his eyes, Sognar was just an ignorant bandit.
“Sorry, I may not have many other strengths, but being stupid is my greatest one. What do you think will happen if I say I won’t let you go?” Sognar remained calm, considering them just three quasi-divine-level scoundrels he didn’t take seriously at all.
“What brings this friend here? We’re members of the Purple-Winged Thunder Eagle clan. If you have something to say, just say it. More friends mean more paths—maybe we can even become friends!” Nash, being the smarter one, pondered for a moment before sensing something was off and asked.
“Friends? Heh, I don’t really have many friends. Sorry, but I don’t need you either. I’m here because someone entrusted me to collect some debts.”
“Who entrusted you? It seems we don’t owe you anything!” Nada said gravely, frowning and stepping back to increase the distance between him and Sognar, becoming more alert. This man gave Nada a strong sense of danger.
“You stupid kid, tired of living, huh? Collecting debts? Get away from me! Otherwise, I’ll show you what death looks like today!” The two men beside Nada were the type who were strong but simple-minded; their faces darkened as they roared in anger. If not for Nada pulling them back at the last moment, they would have rushed forward.
“Hehe, you’ll find out when the time comes! None of you will get away today!” Sognar smiled indifferently. He wouldn’t get angry with dead people—in his eyes, these guys were already dead.
Looking up behind them, a figure about fifty to sixty meters away came into view. “Well, kid? Do you still want me to start first? Will you collect the debts or shall I?” His tone was playful, showing no concern for the men in front of him.
Feeling such an attitude, the faces of these few people turned blue and then red, especially Nada, who already sensed something was wrong. He looked around, searching for a way to escape. As soon as he spoke, Nada’s expression changed, and he shouted at the two people beside him, “Charge forward!” He had already observed the surroundings and found that they were trapped—there were no suitable escape routes, only the way forward. The two people beside him also realized something was amiss and instinctively followed Nada’s lead and charged ahead. “Want to run? That’s not so easy!” With a cold snort, Sognar clenched his fist and unleashed sixteen powerful punches in quick succession at the group ahead. Each punch was fierce, like towering waves that grew more intense one after another, pushing the people who rushed toward him back and blocking their path. At that moment, Rod also arrived, surrounding them from both sides, leaving no chance for escape! After just one exchange, Sognar’s strength made Nada’s heart sink—he realized things were serious. One look at Sognar’s strength was enough to intimidate these people. Turning his attention behind him, he saw that person might be their only hope. “Long time no see!” Rod said casually when he saw Nada turn around. “You…” Upon recognizing Rod’s face, Nada’s expression turned even paler. “How… how could it be you? Weren’t you… dead?” In a state of panic, Nada shouted, forgetting about escaping. Finally, he understood why he had felt something was off. “Brother, who is he…” The two people beside him were also shocked, as if they had never seen anyone make their brother react so intensely. “Rod of the Dragon Clan!” With a look of sorrow, despair, and madness, Nada spoke slowly. When he finished speaking, the two people beside him also turned pale in disbelief. “Weren’t he dead?” they exclaimed loudly. Rod—the one who had been the source of chaos lately, the one who almost caused the entire Purple Wing Thunder Eagle Clan and Nash Clan to perish with him, the one who brought about the legendary God-destroying Thunder Calamity—had survived it?
“How do you plan to do it?” Nadah asked in a low voice, ignoring his companion’s question. He gripped his weapon tightly, ready to fight to the death, though he felt a sense of despair deep in his heart. Not to mention Sognar’s demonstrated strength, which made them feel powerless; just based on his understanding of Rod’s strength, Nadah knew he was in a desperate situation.
