Chapter 88: The Powerful and Mysterious Lilith
“You… how could it be you! How did you get out? You’re not…” To Rod’s surprise, even to his shock, the Black Dragon’s behavior was utterly baffling. Once he saw clearly the appearance of the woman standing before him, a look of horror flashed in his eyes as he cried out in disbelief. From this, Rod could discern much—this mighty dragon, at the peak of the divine intermediate level, a member of the noble dragon race, the very being that had nearly killed him moments before, now showed signs of fear! Yes, fear!
The dragon then slowly retreated step by step, muttering to himself in disbelief, as if he had seen a ghost. As for the woman who appeared out of nowhere, she remained motionless, standing coldly in place. Since Rod was behind her, he couldn’t see her expression.
Looking at her slender figure, anyone could tell she was young—probably around twenty, about the same age as him. Yet it was she who caused Rod such shock! What was going on? Rod was completely confused. Most importantly, this woman filled him with awe—her immense strength could be seen from that cold snort, and combined with the dragon’s behavior, everything revealed an air of utter mystery.
After a long wait, the woman finally spoke: “Sognar, I didn’t expect you to show up! Heh, you look rather embarrassed! Who would have thought the once-mighty Black Dragon Sognar would end up like this? It seems this little guy has caused you quite a bit of trouble!”
Her words made Rod’s expression strange—her tone was mature and cold, clearly that of a young girl, yet her speech was so fluent. It seemed she and the Black Dragon were old acquaintances, which made things even more incredible.
At that moment, the Black Dragon’s emotions seemed to stabilize gradually. His fear vanished, along with his anger, and he returned to a calm state. “Hmph, Lilith, I didn’t expect you to show up too! If you can come out, can’t I? All this is thanks to that wretched reptile behind you! It’s been so many years, yet you’re still as young and beautiful as ever! Well, I won’t waste time talking. Hand over that little guy to me, and I’ll leave right away. How about that? We won’t interfere with each other—I won’t bother you again!”
“Huh? You’ve changed your mind? So easy to talk to! Do you think Silver Moon Lake is such an easy place to come to? Asking for someone from my side? Have you been kicked by a donkey? Get lost now! I don’t care what happened between you two—now that he’s on my territory, he’s mine. With you, you don’t even have the right to order me around! I give you ten breaths—if you don’t leave, don’t blame me for not showing mercy! I won’t be polite then!” With a cold snort, as if hearing some funny joke, the woman’s body trembled slightly before she spoke coldly again.
“You…” The Black Dragon, speechless from her words, turned red in the face. If it weren’t for his scales, one could have clearly seen his embarrassment.
“Nine!” Ignoring the Black Dragon’s anger, the woman stood calmly in place and slowly began to count.
“Lilith, you…”
“Eight…” Another clear voice cut off the Black Dragon’s words. Unfazed by his reaction, the woman continued counting calmly.
“Do you really intend to cause trouble with me over a human? Don’t forget—no matter how cruel you are, I’m not far behind. Don’t think I’m really afraid of you! Don’t forget those old guys are watching closely. Fighting won’t benefit anyone!” The Black Dragon narrowed his eyes at her, clearly angry, and roared, panting heavily. Yet, fear and hesitation could be seen in his eyes.
“Three… Three breaths left. Get lost now!” Ignoring the Black Dragon’s words, her aura surged suddenly. A slender, curved silver sword appeared in her hand, twisting like a long snake, yet looking absolutely beautiful! Clearly, she had lost patience and was ready to act!
Staring in astonishment at the scene, Rod swallowed hard. He wondered if he was dreaming—such a powerful, domineering, and cold woman; it was truly the first time he had encountered someone like her. She was indeed a formidable woman. Only then did Rod feel a little relieved, at least for now he was safe. He glanced at Fen Tian beside him and absorbed it into his body first! Yet Rod didn’t become complacent. He knew well that there was no such thing as a free lunch in this world. This woman had taken the initiative to save him and was even willing to offend a powerful black dragon for his sake—she surely wasn’t being kind out of pure generosity. In this world of survival of the fittest, nothing good came easily. At least Rod didn’t think so; no fool would be naive enough to believe things were that simple and good! He didn’t think he had that kind of luck.
At the same time, a flash of insight struck Rod. It seemed he suddenly remembered something, his expression changing instantly to one of disbelief. Looking at the woman standing in front of him, his gaze became complex and filled with surprise, along with a hint of worry and fear.
“You… are good, Lilith. I’ll remember you! I admit defeat this time—next time, we’ll see!” Stunned by Lilith’s words and seeing her actions, a vicious look flashed in the black dragon’s eyes. After some hesitation, it roared in reluctance before slowly retreating out of fear.
He had known this woman for quite some time and knew exactly who she was. Her cruelty was even beyond his own. Unfortunately, her strength was also greater than his, leaving him no choice but to yield.
“Damn human, I’ll remember you! If you’ve got the guts, stay here. If I catch you, your life will be worse than death! But I warn you—staying here won’t make things any better for you!” With a cold snort, the black dragon growled at Rod.
“Get lost! Why so much talk? Are you itching for a fight?” A furious shout interrupted the black dragon’s warning to Rod. Seeing it scurry away in shame, Rod felt a surge of satisfaction. But soon he turned back to the woman in front of him, a chill creeping over him.
His intuition told him this wasn’t that simple. Perhaps, as the black dragon said, staying here wouldn’t bring any benefits—maybe it was even more dangerous than facing the black dragon. He had experienced that kind of coldness. Though they had only known each other for less than three minutes, who could a person who could drive away a black dragon with just a few words possibly be?
“Haven’t you left yet? Do you need me to send you off? Stop thinking about this guy. This is my last warning! Otherwise, I won’t mind adding another corpse to the banks of Moonlight Lake!” Suddenly, the woman’s icy voice came again. Rod was stunned, thinking it was directed at him, but soon realized something was off—she hadn’t even turned to look at him; she had been staring at the fleeing black dragon the whole time!
Sure enough, moments after her words faded, thick mist rose in the distance, and the black dragon’s roars gradually grew fainter. Filled with dread, Rod realized how ruthless this creature was—daring to hide in the shadows. Thankfully, this woman wasn’t foolish.
Staring in the direction the black dragon had fled, Rod waited for a long time until he felt its presence finally disappear. Only then did the woman sigh in relief and turn to look at Rod. “Kid, come with me!”
Slightly dazed, Rod had guessed her appearance based on her figure earlier, but seeing her up close still left him stunned. Her perfect face, delicate features, and pale skin that seemed to drip with moisture—such beauty should belong only in the heavens; how often could one encounter such a sight in the mortal world? Yet, the thought that crossed his mind sent a shiver through him.
“If you don’t want to lose your eyes, keep looking!” Ignoring the stunned Rod, as if used to such reactions, the woman left those icy words behind and walked ahead, leaving Rod standing there in stupor. Those words snapped Rod out of his daze, sending another shiver through his body. He hurriedly followed, not daring to express any further opinions or words, fearing he might really anger this woman. The more he thought about his guess, the less confident he became. Rod knew his guess was almost certainly correct—her behavior proved it! His anxiety grew ever greater.
Following the woman, he slowly moved forward along what was called the banks of Silver Moon Lake. After a while, they arrived at a secluded cave. With his severe injuries and the strain of walking under six thousand times Earth’s gravity, Rod suffered greatly.
The cave was delicate and elegant—truly worthy of being a woman’s dwelling! It was far beyond comparison to that black dragon’s lair. The cave ceiling was adorned with various gems and luminescent stones, glowing brightly and making the interior appear magnificent. It was hard to believe such a paradise could exist deep within this forest!
“Cough, cough… Um… beautiful lady… Thank you for saving my life. Why did you come looking for me? What do you want?” Seeing the woman sit calmly above, staring at him coldly, Rod felt a chill run down his spine. He felt like a prisoner awaiting interrogation, and this feeling was unbearable! Unable to hold back, he finally spoke up.
“I didn’t want to save you! But you have something that can help me—consider it a trade!” Unexpectedly, her brief words only deepened Rod’s confusion and frustration! What could he possibly do to help her?
“You managed to get Sognar out—quite impressive! Being the first human to make him feel humiliated and enraged, I really appreciate that! But I wonder what exactly you took from him that made him so furious?
Don’t tell me it’s because you hurt him—he’d never react like that! I know that guy well; he values wealth above everything and won’t leave his cave unless there’s a pressing reason. Even if you hurt him and angered him, he wouldn’t pursue you like this! Even if he were truly hurt, he wouldn’t risk everything to chase you here! He doesn’t have the courage yet!”
Without waiting for Rod to respond, the woman suddenly changed the subject to the black dragon, then watched him with keen interest. Yet her gleaming eyes gave Rod the impression of a wolf eyeing a lamb. He seemed to have seen that look before—when the black dragon saw his Black Flame Armor! Instantly, his heart sank, and Rod inwardly groaned in despair.
