Chapter 20: Empty Threats
He rushed toward Camp 11 in a hurry. At this moment, Rod’s expression was terrifyingly cold. Ever since he learned that it was Jim and his two friends who had held those people captive, he couldn’t stay calm anymore. Those three were his only brothers, and he couldn’t allow anything to happen to them. Thinking back to the most dangerous times they had spent together, sharing both hardships and joys, Rod became inexplicably irritable.
Thinking that the three were currently trapped in the camp and didn’t know what had happened, his eyes began to turn slightly red!
“Damn it! I hope those bastards haven’t done anything!” He cursed violently and sped up even further.
“Slow down, boss! We can’t keep up!” The two behind him groaned as Rod’s speed increased. He had already left them over ten meters behind, and the gap kept widening. They couldn’t understand why Rod’s change was so sudden and drastic. They could clearly sense his anger and murderous intent, which made them feel uneasy and afraid. Seeing his state, they knew today’s situation wouldn’t be easy at all!
Hearing the two’s shouts, Rod finally realized what was going on. He slowed down slightly, took a few deep breaths to let them catch up. It was useless for them to follow without him—they had no idea who was behind this.
Taking deep breaths to calm himself, he smiled bitterly inwardly. He knew his reaction had been excessive. He had to admit it, and he wouldn’t deny it—had it not been for Jim and his friends, he wouldn’t have reacted so strongly. If it had been someone else, he wouldn’t have been so anxious. After all, everyone has their own selfish motives, just like it’s impossible to keep a bowl of water perfectly balanced in one’s hands.
Zone C wasn’t particularly large, but it wasn’t small either. At their speed, they soon reached the entrance of Camp 11. Seeing the bustling scene at the camp, Rod suddenly stopped in his tracks. Looking at the crowd gathered at the entrance, a cold smirk appeared on his lips.
“Are they here?” Turning to the two behind him, Rod asked coldly.
“Yeah, there are a few. Some others must be inside,” the two replied, panting heavily. They had finally witnessed the boss’s terrifying speed and even more terrifying stamina—running so fast over such a long distance without even breaking a sweat.
“Hmm, I see,” Rod nodded lightly and then walked slowly forward.
“Head! No, there are too many of them; we’ll be at a disadvantage. Wait—let’s wait until Brother Lei Ao arrives first!” Seeing this, the two seemed to realize something. Considering Rod’s previous behavior, they hurried forward and grabbed him, speaking anxiously.
They knew that if they didn’t stop him this time, Rod would definitely charge straight in. With the enemy outnumbering them, not only would it be impossible to rescue anyone, but they themselves might also get caught in trouble.
“Let go. It’s fine. I know how to handle this!” Turning to them with a slight smile, Rod said calmly.
Then he shook off their hands and walked forward, reaching the entrance of the barracks. Looking at those arrogant guys staring at him, he asked, “Did you guys kidnap my brother?”
“Oh, you’ve brought reinforcements? You alone seem not enough, haha…” The leader of the group, after glancing at Rod and then at the two behind him, was momentarily stunned before laughing arrogantly. As if he’d seen some joke, he spoke in a mocking tone.
“I’m asking you a question. I won’t repeat it!” With a cold expression, Rod demanded again. His face was terrifyingly cold, especially his gaze—like sharp blades piercing those guys. At the same time, his murderous aura surged forth, overwhelming them.
Instantly, their expressions changed drastically. Looking at Rod, their eyes were no longer as casual and relaxed as before. “Yeah, we just wanted to teach those insolent brats a lesson—so they’d know who’s in charge!” Rod’s expression made the man pause briefly before he blurted out those words. The icy atmosphere was unbearable; they even found it hard to breathe! In an instant, they felt a hint of fear toward Rod standing before them. A person’s aura could say a lot. They weren’t fools or beginners; they understood many things. Yet, despite that, they couldn’t help speaking in their usual arrogant tone, unable to shake off their habitual arrogance.
“Mm, very good! Very good!” Hearing this, Rod suddenly laughed—yes, suddenly! A laugh that left everyone confused, eerie, and terrifying.
“Let them go! Don’t you know they’re members of the Reaper Scythe Squad? I’m giving you one chance—let them go right now!” Then, pointing toward the depths of the camp, Rod spoke calmly at the group. Yet, it was precisely this calm tone that carried an air of command, making it impossible to resist. In just moments, Rod, alone, managed to intimidate those eight or nine people at the entrance, leaving them speechless.
Inside the camp, dozens of people were also running toward them, clearly aware of what was happening. In the blink of an eye, several of them arrived in front of Rod.
“I… damn it, where did you come from? Kid, don’t think just because you’re part of the Reaper Scythe Squad you can do whatever you want. Heh, pretty impressive, huh? You’ve been getting pretty popular lately, haven’t you? Hmph, you think we’re easy to intimidate? Let me tell you, kid—don’t think some so-called Reaper Scythe Squad can scare us. We weren’t raised by fear. A bunch of idiots acting tough here? Really thinking you’re someone special? I, Karl, am making it clear now—others may think highly of your Reaper Scythe Squad, but that’s none of my business. In my eyes, you’re just a bunch of fools. Don’t think you’re some big shot. What are you doing acting tough in Camp 11? Idiot! Letting them go isn’t that simple. The one in charge should come and talk to me! You? You’re not even qualified!”
Immediately, a man in his thirties rushed out of the crowd, stepped forward, and after stopping, looked at Rod with a disdainful smile before speaking coldly.
“You… damn you, do you want to die?” Hearing this, Rod remained calm, but the two people behind him couldn’t hold back. Anyone would be enraged by such words and would rush forward, ready to fight.
The atmosphere became tense instantly. The other side also showed no intention of backing down, staring fiercely, ready to strike at any moment.
“You two, come back!” As the two rushed past him, Rod pulled them back with one hand and then shook his head calmly.
After speaking, he took two steps forward and stood in front of the man who had spoken, only about two meters away. Standing face to face like this made the people on the other side extremely nervous. It seemed they were about to step forward and teach Rod a lesson.
“Heh, yes! Our Death Scythe Squad isn’t anything special! You can look down on us however you want—it doesn’t matter to us. We don’t live by your opinions! What others think is their business. If they respect us, it’s just because they’re being generous; if not, it doesn’t matter. Do you think we can’t live just because you look down on us? Damn it, I’ll say it again—release my brother now, and let’s end this matter. Otherwise, no one will be fine!” His gaze turned even colder as he glared at the group of arrogant guys across from him, whispering. At the same time, all his muscles tensed, ready to act at any moment!
“Damn you, you little jerk! You don’t understand, do you? You think you can act tough just because I give you a chance? I’m not releasing him! What, you think you can eat me?” Unable to bear Rod’s gaze, the man quickly averted his eyes and stepped back. Only then seemed he realized what had happened. Feeling embarrassed, he took a deep breath to suppress his panic, smiled coldly, and shouted loudly. Then, seeing the nearly thirty people standing behind him, he regained his courage.
The commotion here gradually drew everyone’s attention. Soon, the entire Camp 11 gathered around. As more people arrived, the number of people behind that guy also increased, reaching almost fifty!
The noise even attracted the attention of people from several surrounding camps. Those from Camp 10 and Camp 12 appeared first, and soon the area was surrounded by people. The scene became lively.
“Hehehe…” Hearing the other party’s words, Rod suddenly laughed coldly, a smile so icy it made people feel uncomfortable.
“Very good! Indeed very good! So it seems there’s no point in talking? You seem like the one in charge—not bad! Camp 11 has produced some real characters! I remember this. Since that’s the case, let’s settle this properly today!”
This was the second time Rod had said such words today, and his tone this time was even more sinister than before! If it weren’t for the fact that Jim and the others were still in their hands, Rod would have already taken action! On the other hand, he also considered the current situation—war was imminent, and he didn’t want internal strife. But since others had provoked him and things had escalated to this point, he knew he couldn’t let it go easily!
With that, Rodo resolved himself and, the moment the words faded, rushed forward in a flash—so fast that no one could react. The two-meter distance was covered in just one step. In less than a second, he grabbed the man’s head, punched him, then pulled him close to himself before drawing his Dark Dragon sword and pressing it against his throat! All these actions were done in one seamless motion, in less than a second! The speed was so great that people couldn’t react in time, and by the time they realized what was happening, it was already over.
