Chapter 250: Another Attack

Roaring noises and sounds of battle came from outside the city. Soon after, a shrill whistle was heard from behind the defensive wall—it was the signal for an emergency assembly, a sound unique to the army.
“Damn it, get together quickly! Let’s go take a look!” Such voices and movements jolted Rod and the others who were sleeping out of their dreams. Frowning and still drowsy, Rod cursed and shouted at everyone.
The once quiet camp immediately became bustling. Everyone knew what was happening over there. The sound of the horn clearly indicated that the defensive wall had been attacked by a large force of magical beasts. Those who had just gone to sleep, hoping to get one last night of rest, realized their wish had been shattered.
The arrival of the magical beasts meant war had broken out again, and a moment of life or death had arrived once more.
It took only three minutes to get everything ready. Leading the group, Rod rushed toward the defensive wall. The sound of the horn had alerted everyone. At that moment, Area C was in chaos, with reinforcements and mercenaries everywhere, all rushing toward the defensive wall.
“A massive army of magical beasts is attacking! Everyone, get ready quickly! Personnel from Camp 1 and Camp 2, head west to provide aid. Members from Camps 3 to 5, go to the center. Those from Camps 6 to 10, head east! Hurry! The rest stay behind and be ready to assist at any time! Are there any mages? All mages, come out! Go up on the walls! Hurry! Once there, work together to establish a magical defense system—we can’t let those beasts succeed!”
Upon arriving at the foot of the defensive wall, they saw the deputy commander of the Black Tooth Legion, in charge of reinforcements for Area C, standing on the wall and shouting loudly at everyone below.
His loud voice, amplified by magic crystals, quickly reached everyone’s ears. Following his instructions, the dense crowd below began to move, heading to their assigned tasks.
“Hurry up! The rest, don’t move without permission! There’s no more room on the walls!” The officer on the wall shouted loudly. At this critical moment, chaos must be avoided, especially below. If disorder arose in the rear, it could cause fatal consequences.
Under the officer’s command, things remained relatively orderly, with no major chaos.

“Damn it, boss, we didn’t come here for nothing, right? Hell, making us wait here is just a waste of time!” Looking at Rod, Curly Hair started complaining incessantly. He hated this feeling—watching others fight while he did nothing.

“Forget it. There’s no room up there, and it’s useless for us to go up; we’d only cause trouble. Let’s wait here; it will be your turn to go!” Skora, on the other hand, calmly explained to Curly Hair.

After all, the city walls had limited space, able to hold only a small number of people. Four barracks had already been filled—each with 3,000 people, totaling 30,000. Adding these to the tens of thousands of troops already defending the city, the numbers had reached saturation, even overcrowding. With the logistics troops moving around as well, there was simply no more room for others. If there were, would they refuse? They weren’t fools—more people meant more strength, and it made sense for them to join. Skora, having experienced two beast invasions, understood this better than anyone.

“What should we do?” Curly Hair asked, looking frustrated at Rod and Skora.

“Wait. When they can’t hold on up there, they’ll start replacing troops. The wounded need to be withdrawn, and new ones will take their place. It will be your turn, don’t worry!” Rod said to Curly Hair with an indifferent smile. There was no point in rushing things.

The sounds of fighting grew louder on the city walls, accompanied by continuous roars and dazzling lights from magical clashes. Clearly, just as they had predicted, those advanced magical beasts were intelligent enough to know what to do at this moment!

Feeling the splashing of water droplets, it was obvious those beasts intended to use water magic to destroy the protective effect of the walls. Once the walls were broken, their army could advance.

“I’m going up to take a look. Wait for me here!” Sensing the intense fighting above, Rod finally couldn’t resist and decided to go and see the situation for himself, to find out what those beasts were doing. In fact, perhaps Rod hadn’t realized that what worried him the most were the demon race and the vampire race. Ever since he learned these two groups would join this beast invasion, his mind had never settled—this was what worried him the most.

Besides worry, Rod also felt a hint of doubt and curiosity. He wanted to see what the legendary vampires actually looked like, and he was curious about what kind of race the demons were. He himself was a demon, yet he knew nothing about them. Logically, the demons should have been defeated by humans thousands of years ago and since then had retreated to the Source of Darkness to live in seclusion, never reappearing in the world. Even if they did send one or two individuals every few decades or even a hundred years to explore the outside world in search of an opportunity to regain their status. But in his memory, he had always been in the outside world, never entering the Source of Darkness or coming into contact with demons. So how had he ended up here? Why was he a demon? Who were his parents, and why had he never met them? Who was that old man? He must know Rod’s true identity—why hadn’t he told him? Everything was a huge mystery to Rod. Now that the demons had appeared, he needed to learn more about them in order to figure out his own identity. Since he had been here during the day earlier and some guards recognized him, Rod encountered no obstacles and successfully reached the top of the city wall. Looking around, he immediately spotted Emio’s figure, standing at the command post in the center, directing the entire situation. Next to him was Nagran, the deputy commander of the Black Tooth Legion, whom Rod had held hostage that day. At that moment, they were busy assessing the battle situation and giving orders. After learning Emio’s identity, Rod’s gaze toward him became more complex. A person who had risen through sheer strength! Truly not an ordinary individual—this could be seen from the current situation; everything was in perfect order. In such a large-scale battle, not a trace of chaos was present. The control over the battle was also excellent; at least for now, Rod couldn’t find any flaws. Emio always made the most accurate decisions at the most critical moments, reinforcing weak points and countering the enemy’s attacks. Magic filled the air as almost all mages were gathered on the city wall, lined up together under the protection of several powerful warriors.

The Warcraft army on the opposite side was also busy; all the water-type magic beasts launched a fierce attack. Along with them, the other beasts began to attack as well, hurling magic at the magical defense barriers erected by the mages, hoping to create a gap to give the water-type beasts an opportunity.

In the sky, the flying beasts also took action, covering for those on the ground as they flew toward the city walls to attack.

The battle reached a stalemate, with howls and shouts filling the air. Such attacks were not enough to break through the defensive lines built by the defenders on the walls.

Most of the beasts in the sky were dealt with by a few powerful warriors, aided by a few summoned mages, so things remained relatively safe. Although there were many of them, there weren’t many strong beasts, so the threat they posed was limited.

The ground was completely blocked, and under the scorching heat, those beasts could not approach for now. They roared from afar, venting their anger!

Under the dark night sky, their eyes glowed like green lanterns, emitting an indescribable wildness and brutality that was somewhat terrifying to behold.

“East side! Strengthen the defense on the east side! Hurry over! Nagran, you’re in charge of the east side’s defense. If anything goes wrong, you’ll answer for it!” As soon as Rod arrived at the command post in the center, he heard Emio’s loud shouts.

“Nadar, you’re in charge of the west side’s defense. Don’t bring me bad news—you must hold it. If you die, you’ll die first!” He then ordered another officer to take charge of the west side’s defense.

“Brado, you’re here—just in time! Come quickly!” Turning around, Emio saw Rod and showed a hint of relief as he called out to him urgently.

Rod’s strength and abilities were recognized by him. With his involvement, the defense could surely be made more effective and perfect.

“We can’t keep defending like this; it will only drain our strength. There are too many demons, and… there might even be stronger beings behind them. If they appear, our current defense will be completely ineffective! We must change our strategy!” Since they had already been seen, Rod had no intention of hiding. He stepped up to him, took a deep breath at the sight before him, and spoke in a low voice. What worried him were the demons—vampires had the innate ability to fly, and the demons were not very clear about this. Although he was a demon himself, he knew nothing about it. If they appeared, such defense would be utterly unable to stop their formidable strength and power.
“Hm? What plan do you have? This is already the most effective defense we have!” Rod’s words made Emio frown in confusion as he asked. He really couldn’t think of a better defense method, at least not for now.
