Chapter 230: Slaying Everywhere

“Hurry up! The east side can’t hold on much longer—go reinforce them now!” An urgent cry came from beside him, forcing Rod to turn. There, a soldier covered in blood was shouting for help in a desolate voice. His horrific wounds were truly shocking; it was hard to believe such a person could still stand and shout. Normally, he would have been lying on the ground, barely alive and unable to move.
“The west side is doomed! Help, hurry—go there now!” Urgent shouts came from behind as well. The situation had become extremely critical.
Faced with the wild attacks of the magical beasts and attacks from all sides, danger arose constantly. Clearly, they had adopted a strategy of fighting on all fronts, putting immense pressure on both wings.
“You must be the reinforcements. What are you waiting for? Come with me to the east side! We can’t let those beasts break in—or everything’s lost!” Someone tapped him on the shoulder and called out.
Turning around, Rod saw a burly man standing behind him, panting heavily, looking at him anxiously while organizing the warriors around him to head east for support.
“Let’s go!” Rod took a deep breath and said firmly. The battle had come too quickly, leaving no time to catch one’s breath.
They ran along the city walls. The short distance of a hundred meters was covered in just a few seconds. Along the way, every place was in peril. When they reached the east wall, Rod was stunned by what he saw.
The wall, known as the strongest fortress on the continent, had a huge crack in it. The floor was stained red with blood, filled with cries of pain. Corpses lay scattered everywhere, and blood flowed like a river toward the city below. The logistics team was quickly evacuating the wounded from this dangerous area, while the dead soldiers’ bodies were piled onto carts and pushed downhill.
The brutality of the battle far exceeded Rod’s imagination. In the face of death, at this critical moment for the continent, these soldiers, these reinforcements, these warriors had gone mad. Life and death seemed forgotten for them; their eyes were red, fixed only on those hateful magical beasts.

A roar of defiance shook the heavens, followed by a loud, dull thud. A royal-class magical beast took advantage of the chaos to attack the city, only to be killed under the assault of two royal-class warriors. Its body crashed heavily below the city walls, raising a cloud of dust. More and more magical beasts gathered in the sky, while those of the magic type below continued to unleash their spells. After dodging a spell aimed at him, Rod could no longer hold back. He drew his disguised Dark Dragon and charged at the magical beasts flying toward the city walls. He dared not use the Shadow Sword or Autumn Wind Sword, fearing they would reveal his identity, so all he could use now were Dragon Swoop and Sky Piercer. After practicing for some time, he had mastered Dragon Swoop, and Sky Piercer was not far behind, delivering terrifyingly powerful attacks. With a swift use of Dragon Swoop, a fiery red combat aura created a phantom figure with a shimmering barrier, which rushed at a gold-class falcon ahead of him. Just before Rod attacked, the falcon had already torn a soldier to pieces with its sharp claws, blood flying everywhere. It seemed quite satisfied and even excited, realizing too late that it was too late to escape when Rod’s attack came. In that instant, Rod had already reached it. With a fierce cry, his sword sliced through the air as the Dark Dragon roared and plunged toward the falcon’s head. With a final cry of despair, realizing it could no longer dodge, the falcon spread its wings and attacked Rod. At that moment, it chose the most common tactic among magical beasts: fighting to the death. “Beast! Die!” Rod paid no attention to the falcon’s attack. With a cold snort, he accelerated, turning into a phantom and appearing instantly behind the falcon. He stood there calmly, as if nothing had happened. With a dull thud, the falcon’s body crashed to the ground, convulsing. It stared at the human in front of it with a look of defiance, struggling to get up, only to fall again, blood spraying from its chest as it let out pained groans.

Upon closer inspection, a hole the size of a finger appeared on his chest, oozing blood! At that moment, the Falcon’s eyes gradually dimmed, and after a few convulsions, it was lifeless. Seeing what he had accomplished, Rod smiled in satisfaction. This was the first time the Dragon-Slaying Sword had been used, and it had performed remarkably well—killing a gold-tier monster instantly. Rod had brought the sword’s true power to its extreme, controlling speed and timing perfectly, and in that instant, he mastered the precision he had previously struggled with.

“Brother, are you serious? That… that was the Falcon! You… you killed it in an instant?” Standing beside Rod, the soldiers and warriors who had been attacking the Falcon stared in disbelief at Rod, who stood there as if nothing had happened. Looking at this man in his early twenties or thirties, they spoke hesitantly.

What did “killing instantly” even mean? They had never seen anything like it before; their shock was indescribable. Red combat energy was indeed a sign of an imperial-level warrior, and there were many such people present, but none could resolve a battle so swiftly. No one dared claim they could achieve such a flawless instant kill!

“Hurry up and drive back the monsters. Leave a few people here to guard this area, and the rest should go help the main force!” Unimpressed by their astonishment, Rod spoke calmly. Instead of wasting time talking, it was better to use that time to kill more monsters.

Inside, he felt even more confident. The success with the Dragon-Slaying Sword gave him a sense of dominance and pride, an indescribable feeling of joy and satisfaction. Turning away without paying attention to their strange looks, Rod pursued the monsters storming the city relentlessly. With every move, he unleashed his simplest techniques to the fullest extent. Ordinary monsters couldn’t last even a moment against him and were almost all killed instantly. Even the stronger ones lost their arrogance and confidence once Rod joined the fight, falling defeated atop the city walls.

The corpses of the monsters piled up below the city walls, but this did not deter the ones still attacking. On the contrary, it only fueled their ferocity and madness.

The howls filled the air as more and more creatures, disregarding life and death, rushed forward in madness. His comrades fell one after another around him. Rod had no idea how many monsters he had killed, nor how many soldiers and warriors had died beside him! All he remembered was that his teammates had changed three times already. None of the first two groups of over a dozen comrades was still standing by his side—either they lay dead on the ground with eyes forever closed or they had been carried away by the logistics troops for treatment.

By now, Rod’s originally gray clothes were stained blood red, his every inch of skin covered in blood, making him look like a devil crawled out of hell—a sight truly terrifying. Yet he seemed unaware of his own condition, showing no signs of fatigue, continuing to charge around, fighting back and forth within the eastern city walls. Since he joined the battle, countless monsters had lost their lives at his hands. Even those who had fought alongside him felt a chill run down their spines; even “devils” couldn’t fully describe him—this man was even more terrifying than a devil.

They clearly remembered that since this man joined the battle and killed that golden-tier falcon, over an hour had passed. That hour had been a nightmare for the monsters—three golden-tier monsters and one imperial-tier monster had been killed by him, along with at least dozens of silver- and bronze-tier monsters! The techniques he used were even more chilling! They were terrifying and bizarre, constantly changing in unpredictable ways, appearing in the most unexpected places.

Gradually, Rod became the core of the battle, completely suppressing the other imperial-tier warriors, even overshadowing the strongest defender in the eastern city—a quasi-saint-level warrior—who now appeared pale in comparison. At this moment, Rod was the focus of everyone’s attention and the greatest enemy in the eyes of the monsters.

“This can’t go on!” Watching the relentless attacks of the monsters and feeling the precarious situation, Rod inwardly groaned in frustration. His stamina was nearly exhausted, and he could hardly hold on much longer. Yet the monsters’ attacks showed no sign of slowing down, becoming even more fierce.

The sky was gradually darkening, and night was about to cover the land. If they couldn’t get those damned creatures to stop by nightfall, they would gain complete control of the battle. That would be when true danger would arise, and Rod was extremely anxious at the thought.

“Kill them! It’s getting dark—repel them! We can’t keep wasting strength!” Unable to hold back any longer, Rod raised his long sword high and, looking at the people around him who were out of breath, shouted loudly, hoping to inspire them to fight one last time.

Just as Rod became the focus of attention and began leading the defense on the eastern wall in a final stand, he didn’t realize that he had already caught the attention of several pairs of eyes—eyes filled with confusion and admiration, as if they were curious about this suddenly emerging figure.
