Chapter 57: Taking Action
Feeling the pain in his body, he struggled to lift his head and looked at the boy across from him. The officer’s expression was complex—being a Bronze Warrior, he seemed to have forgotten how many years it had been since he last been injured. He never expected to get hurt on such an occasion, and moreover, at the hands of such a young kid. Indeed, it was in that moment that the boy used that strange technique he had used before. Even though it was the second time, he still couldn’t see it clearly or defend against it.
Even using all his strength, he only managed to block six of the opponent’s sword attacks; he failed to defend against the last one. The speed was so fast that even as a Bronze Warrior, he found it hard to keep up and distinguish between reality and illusion.
Looking at the wound about ten centimeters long across his chest and the stream of blood flowing out, along with the intense pain, he couldn’t help but gasp.
“Fight again!” With a loud roar, Rod decided to press his advantage. He wasn’t stupid enough to give the opponent time to catch his breath or let his subordinates come to his rescue—even though his combat energy was almost depleted.
……
“Lord, the battle over there is almost over. Is it time to act?”
Everyone had forgotten that there was a mysterious army living in the place where they were fighting, along with several mysterious people. No one understood why they hadn’t intervened yet under these circumstances.
“Miss…” Hearing his subordinate’s words, the officer of the Dark Legion turned his head toward the stunningly beautiful girl beside him and asked respectfully.
“Go ahead. It’s getting late; it’s time to rest.”
Waving her hand, the girl replied indifferently to the man’s question.
Hearing her words, the officer sighed in relief, a faint smile appearing on his face. How could they not know what was going on below? In fact, they had noticed something amiss from the very beginning, even when the city guards arrived at the hotel. But for some reason, the usually indifferent miss suddenly told them to ignore everything and let those rude people fight below.
Now, at last, they had the chance to act—to put an end to those chaotic noises and violent fights, and to prevent further trouble. That was better than anything else.
He quickly stepped outside and looked at the chaotic scene below—soldiers lying scattered on the ground, moaning in pain, and the mercenaries who held complete advantage. With a sigh, he looked down on those useless soldiers, unable to believe that the city guards had fallen to such a state, unable to even deal with a few mercenaries like these.
At least these mercenaries had enough sense not to kill them; otherwise, the field would be littered with corpses today.
“Stop all of you!”
He roared loudly, his voice instantly spreading to every corner and reaching everyone’s ears. His confident and powerful voice made those fighting stop what they were doing.
“The city guards of Shuiyue City? Hmph, stop embarrassing yourselves here and leave immediately!”
Seeing everyone stop fighting, the officer nodded in satisfaction and spoke coldly.
“Bastard, who are you? From which team? City guards? Don’t you know who I am? Damn it, I told you to stop! Kill them all—everyone, including that guy!”
Stunned, he glanced at the sudden appearance and, seeing the black armor, subconsciously assumed it was a city soldier. The next moment, the young lord roared again.
“It’s getting late. If you have the urge to fight, go outside and do it. Don’t disturb others’ rest!”
A sudden voice came through, leaving everyone stunned. Especially the officer who had been about to explode at the young lord’s words—his expression changed drastically as he quickly turned to look behind him and bowed respectfully to the newcomer.
“Miss, how… how did you come here?” he asked in a low voice after taking a step forward, but his words were clearly heard by everyone.
Wasn’t this suddenly appearing girl the beautiful lady they were here to protect, Rod and the others? Her stunning beauty silenced the entire crowd, leaving only heavy breathing.
“Hehe, this girl isn’t bad. Well, how about this—if she spends the night with me today, everything can be settled. What do you say?”
Swallowing hard, the young lord looked at the suddenly appearing woman with a thoroughly lecherous expression and said with alecherous·ish smile.
The crowd fell silent, especially the members of the Swift Wind Mercenary Team, who stared at the infatuated young lord as if he were some monster.
As for Rod, he raised his eyebrows and secretly laughed at that moment. He knew there would be something interesting to watch today. What happened next had little to do with him; it was up to the members of the Dark Legion to take action. Stepping aside, he sheathed his long sword and watched with interest.
The words spoken by the young city lord made the woman’s expression turn cold as she glared at him with murderous intent. The officer beside him also had a pale face as he slowly turned to look at the ignorant man below, taking out a dark-colored plaque from his chest and throwing it down.
Ding… With a clear sound, the plaque landed quietly at the foot of the young city lord.
“What? Did you agree?” Not knowing what had happened, the young city lord thought the other party had agreed and smiled broadly.
The city guard officer he brought with him saw the object on the ground, his face turning pale instantly. Enduring his injuries, he rushed to the young city lord and picked up the plaque to examine it closely. Cold sweat soaked his entire body, nearly causing him to collapse.
“Dark Legion!” The four characters carried immense power. As a military man, he was all too familiar with these words—they represented a place every soldier aspired to join.
“Young… young master, we…”
Interrupting the officer, he continued to stare obsessively at the woman upstairs, pushing the officer in front of him aside. “Get out of the way! Don’t ruin my good luck!”
“Young master, it’s the Dark Legion! They’re from the Dark Legion!” The officer, with a cry in his voice, grabbed the young city lord’s hand and shouted. Sweat poured from his forehead; he was on the verge of crying.
Dark Legion! Those words fell like a bomb among the crowd, leaving the soldiers wide-eyed and stunned in disbelief. The young city lord, after a moment of shock and a frown, also changed expression, as if realizing something. He quickly snatched the iron plaque from the injured officer and examined it closely.
Ding… Another clear sound came as the plaque fell to the ground again. Soon after, the young city lord collapsed to the ground, pale, as if struck by some terrible blow.
Tap tap tap… At this critical moment, noisy footsteps were heard outside, indicating that a large group was approaching.
