Chapter 56: Group Battle
Watching the crowd charging over, Rod clenched his fists secretly, a cold smirk appearing on his lips as he stepped forward, ready to counterattack.
“Rod, come back!” But just as he took a step, he heard a shout behind him.
Hesitating for a moment, he turned around and saw a group of people rushing toward them—wasn’t the leader none other than Captain Randy? Behind him were Bruce, Ada, and others. They arrived at Rod’s side in a hurry, frowning as they saw the soldiers closing in.
“Weren’t you told to stay in your room? Why did you come out again?” Ada complained, looking at Rod, who seemed indifferent.
“A bunch of rats were making noise over there; I couldn’t sleep. I came out to deal with these arrogant rats and see if they still dare to cause trouble!” Rod said nonchalantly, rolling his eyes as if nothing had happened.
“You…” Hearing this, Ada angrily pointed at the troublemaker, not knowing what to say.
“Enough, back off! Let me handle this!”
At Randy’s words, somehow Rod and Ada’s aggression vanished instantly! Though they muttered complaints that no one could hear clearly, they stayed put and didn’t do anything foolish, which relieved Ada.
“They’re that guy’s accomplices! Capture them all!”
The situation upstairs enraged the young city lord below. With a cold smirk, he shouted orders to the soldiers he had brought.
Instantly, the hundreds of soldiers inside the small inn rushed at them with fierce determination, while those outside also surged inside with similar intensity.
At that moment, all the guests in the inn hid in their rooms, afraid of getting caught in the crossfire. They peeked through slightly open doors to watch what was happening. Now, the only people visible in the inn were Rod’s group and those stern soldiers.
“Wait!” As the attack was about to begin, Randy’s loud roar made them pause, stopping what they were doing for a moment.
“Sir, I’ve roughly understood what happened. It was my men who were at fault. I hope you can overlook their mistakes. On behalf of our Windy Mercenaries, I apologize. That young man is seriously injured and on the verge of death. I believe it’s useless for you to take him back—it will only cause trouble. How about we compensate you at the price you paid for him?”
Taking a step forward, the young city lord, Landi, with a bandage on his head, spoke in a deep voice.
“You’re apologizing to me on their behalf? The captain of Windy Mercenaries? Who do you think you are to say such things? You don’t have that much face. Get lost if you know what’s good for you. Out of respect for your attitude, I won’t punish you, but otherwise, I’ll deal with you too!” As if hearing something funny, the young city lord was stunned for a moment before a sarcastic smile appeared on his lips as he laughed loudly. Then, in a cold and angry tone, he spat out insults, showing no respect at all.
“Bastard! How dare you speak to our captain like that! I’ll ruin you!”
As soon as the young city lord spoke those words, everyone’s expression changed drastically. Rod couldn’t hold back any longer and stepped forward, shouting loudly, ready to charge at that guy.
“I’ll show you what happens when you act so arrogantly! Attack them all!”
Looking down on Rod, the young city lord spoke again.
In an instant, those soldiers rushed at the group like tigers and wolves. The two sides were on the verge of conflict. Under the forceful attacks and after hearing such insulting words, everyone rushed forward without hesitation.
The cold glint of weapons filled the entire hotel. The phrase “clashing swords and blades” was perhaps the most fitting description at this moment!
Watching everyone, Rod smirked coldly. His right hand suddenly reached behind him, and with a crisp sound, a dark long sword appeared in his hand.
The Dark Dragon Unsheathed—yes, that was it. Holding the Dark Dragon, Rod’s aura soared several times over. With a roar, he charged forward, raising the Dark Dragon and channeling his combat energy to its strongest level. Feeling the burning within him, he unleashed the Shadow Sword.
Suddenly, several versions of Rod’s voice appeared, flashing toward the opposing crowd.
Ah… In the next moment, cries of pain filled the air. Unfortunately, those soldiers were knocked down one after another before they could react, and those screams were theirs.
The figure gradually emerged, standing on the ground with a cold smirk on his lips. He looked at everyone, raised his sword once again, and swung it in a fan-shaped motion, slashing at all the soldiers ahead.
Ding… A clear sound was followed by cries of pain. Those soldiers who failed to react were once more knocked down.
Standing among the crowd, Rod pointed his sword in all directions. Seeing the soldiers around him become fearful, he took advantage of the situation to launch a solo assault, staging a dramatic duel against many foes.
“This kid…” Aida muttered in disbelief as she watched Rod wreak havoc. It was absolutely insane. Although he was a high-level warrior, it seemed even they couldn’t exert such devastating power when facing so many enemies.
It was astonishing that Rod could practically control the situation alone against so many opponents, far beyond everyone’s expectations. Especially that exquisite sword technique—no one, not even those soldiers in the midst of it or those watching from behind, could spot any flaw; they were still completely confused.
Perhaps it was precisely because of this, because of his successive blows that stunned the enemies, that Rod became so aggressive.
“Kill him! Kill him now! Don’t retreat! Anyone who backs down will be executed!”
Seeing that one man had rushed into the crowd, seized control, and forced his own soldiers to retreat, the young city lord was in agony. Watching his soldiers slowly backing away, he roared loudly.
“Go! What are you still standing here for? Can’t you see what’s happening?” Fuming at Rod’s arrogant demeanor, the young city lord yelled at the officer beside him, unable to vent his anger elsewhere.
Urged by the scolding, he rushed toward Rod in the crowd, feeling frustrated. To be honest, he had also been stunned by the technique that young man used earlier. He knew that if the boy’s target had been him, he would have had no chance to dodge—it was impossible to figure out how it worked.
“Kid, don’t get too arrogant!” Suddenly, a roar was heard!
Feeling a powerful force rushing toward him and even a sting on his face, and hearing that roar again, Rod realized things were bad. Knowing a stronger opponent had finally arrived, he quickly dodged to the side. The moment he left, a large sword slashed fiercely where he had stood just moments ago.
“We’ll go help!”
Seeing what was happening in the distance, Randy, who had been watching, shouted softly at the people around him and rushed toward Rod to help him escape the danger. Since the situation had already escalated and could no longer be controlled, the only option seemed to be protecting those around him.
Once Randy moved in, the mercenaries, who had been eager to act all along, naturally didn’t want to fall behind. They also roared and charged at the poor soldiers.
The two magicians stood ready, casting spells of completely different natures in an instant, sending them at the unfortunate soldiers.
In an instant, screams filled the air. The arrival of more fighters brought about a dramatic change in the situation.
“A master?” With the situation under control and seeing his comrades join the fight, Rod breathed a sigh of relief. With a smirk, he asked the middle-aged officer across from him coldly.
“To take your life!” With a cold snort, the man grabbed his long sword, not giving Rod a chance to speak, and charged at him with fierce attacks.
“Bronze Warrior!” Rod silently called out as he saw a faint blue combat energy emanating from the opponent.
As he quickly dodged, he used his Shadow Sword again. Although this move consumed a lot of combat energy, it might be the most suitable option at this moment.
In a flash, he bent his body like an arrow ready to be shot, charging at the officer. His Dark Dragon moved swiftly, with his long sword covering him.
Clang… A series of sharp sounds of clashes could be heard instantly by everyone, along with sparks from the collision of metal. The intensity of the battle captured everyone’s attention, making the other fights seem insignificant.
Thud… A dull sound caught many people’s attention. Finally, the two separated, gasping for breath. They supported themselves with their Dark Dragons, their faces pale from exhaustion, sweat pouring down their foreheads. Rod was in a terrible state.
As for the officer across from him, his situation wasn’t much better. His face was cold, his brows tightly furrowed, and he stood there quietly, holding his sword in both hands.
However, when they saw what had happened, there were cries of shock. An injury had appeared on the officer’s body at some point, with blood flowing profusely—a shocking sight. That dull sound earlier must have been the result of him being struck! Everyone realized this at the same time.
