Chapter 52: Interfering in Others’ Affairs
Entering the hotel, which was quiet at the moment, everyone’s gaze was fixed on that woman. With each light step she took, the hearts of the men beat faster.
“Brother Kerry, we’re going upstairs first. You take care of things here!”
Feeling the admiring looks from those around her, the woman frowned slightly and spoke to the officer beside her in a voice as melodious as a nightingale’s song.
After she spoke, led by Rod and escorted by several soldiers, the two women slowly headed upstairs.
Rod led the way silently, feeling the curious gazes from those below. He couldn’t help but smile bitterly—it seemed that being too beautiful was also a sin.
After reaching the second floor and turning a corner, they soon arrived at a room. Gently pushing open the door, Rod marveled at the spacious and elegant room. Rich people really were different; the cost of just one night here could probably last him for a long time.
“This is it. If nothing else, I’ll be going down now!”
Turning back to look at the two women, he said indifferently. He gave the purple-haired woman a deep glance, once again marveling at her natural beauty.
She nodded lightly, and under Ivy’s guidance, she entered the room. Moments later, the door closed slowly, ending the scene and leaving many people disappointed. At that moment, Rod seemed like a sinner, subjected to countless resentful looks!
With a bitter smile, he returned to his place. The lobby was now quiet, devoid of its earlier noise. Perhaps it was because of the appearance of that woman or because most of the people sitting there were soldiers from the Dark Legion, making the atmosphere somewhat oppressive.
The dinner ended in boredom. After hastily satisfying their hunger, everyone returned to their rooms to rest. However, the woman’s room became a heavily guarded area, with four fully armed soldiers standing outside. As for how many more skilled fighters were hiding inside to protect her, that remained unknown.
Rod was still in the same room as Ada. Seeing her effeminate appearance, he felt slightly uncomfortable.
With nothing to do, at Bit’s invitation, everyone headed towards the streets in the city. Since they were in Shuiyue City, a popular tourist destination, they certainly couldn’t miss this opportunity. A group of about ten people set off together to enjoy the night views of Shuiyue City.
Describing Shuiyue City’s nights as vibrant and lively wouldn’t be an exaggeration. Despite the bitter cold winds of winter, the streets were still bustling, with crowded crowds forming a spectacular sight!
Seeing the various shops, the exquisite goods displayed inside, and the strong aromas coming from some snack stalls from time to time, everyone’s mood improved instantly.
“It’s a shame we don’t have time to explore properly this time; we have to leave again tomorrow!” Ada said regretfully.
“Hehe, Ada, don’t worry. After completing this mission, the captain said we can take some time off, right? Haha, when we come back and pass by here, we’ll spend some time having fun here,” Bit said cheerfully, unbothered at all. Although this mission made them feel frustrated, the thought of the generous reward made everyone smile again.
“There seems to be some trouble over there. Let’s go take a look!” At that moment, shouts and screams from ahead caught everyone’s attention.
Rod, who reacted fastest, quickly gave instructions to the people around him before rushing over.
The square ahead was packed with people, all gathered around watching something. From the center, continuous shouts and screams could be heard.
“Let’s go in and take a look!” Standing outside the crowd, Rod said firmly to those around him after hearing the screams. Curiosity always gets the better of people at such times.
With great effort, the group pushed their way into the crowd and reached the front, accompanied by the screams.
“Damn it!”
The scene before Rod made him curse inwardly. In the center of the crowd, a group of people were beating up a bloodied man.
The man lying on the ground was crying out in pain, covered in blood. Despite the cold winter, he was wearing only tattered clothes, and after being beaten by the crowd, his face was barely recognizable.
“Rod, don’t meddle. He’s a slave. These aren’t matters we should get involved in!”
Pulling back Rod, who wanted to charge forward, Bit shook his head and said, “Let go.” With a sudden forceful motion, Rodsweeped Bit’s hand away angrily. The cold cheers and excited watching of the crowd around him only fueled his rage; such behavior was truly despicable. “His slave—look at that collar around his neck. Maybe one of this family’s slaves ran away because he wasn’t obedient. Don’t meddle; it won’t benefit us!” someone rushed forward, urgently pulling at Rod’s hand. The young man leading that group wore luxurious clothes, seemingly to emphasize his status—someone they shouldn’t offend. “Flame Ball!” Just as Rod was about to explode in anger, a clear cry came from beside him, making him pause for a moment. Soon after, a small fireball appeared out of thin air and rushed toward those arrogant guys. “Aida!” Indeed, it was Aida who had released the fireball. Its appearance forced those big men back, giving the person lying on the ground, groaning in pain, a chance to breathe. At the same time, the scene instantly fell silent. Everyone turned their gaze this way, seemingly astonished and puzzled by what they saw. “Who dares cause trouble here? Don’t you know who this young master is?” A loud shout rang out. The young man in luxurious clothes, who had been watching coldly until then, stepped out of the crowd and yelled loudly. “It’s me, this young master! Why bully the weak?” Seizing the opportunity, Rodsweeped Bit’s hand off, stepped out of the crowd, and yelled angrily at the young man across from him. The scene before his eyes reminded him of what Roger had done in Fire City, instantly igniting his rage. With bloodshot eyes, he stepped forward. “Mercenaries? Do you know what you just did?” Narrowing his eyes at Rod and the few people following closely behind him, he saw the badges on their chests and smirked disdainfully before asking coldly. Ignoring the young man’s words, Rod walked around him to the boy behind him, knelt down, and examined the situation carefully, frowning deeply. “Whoever you are, you have no right to treat anyone like this, even if they’re slaves. Even if you’re a slave, you still have no such right!” The sight before his eyes made Rod’s eyes redden slightly as he spoke in a hoarse voice that sent chills down everyone’s spine.
“Hmph! If you want to meddle, better apologize quickly and scram away—otherwise, I’ll deal with you too!” Rod’s attitude made the man’s face turn icy. With a cold shout, the guards he brought with him immediately surrounded Rod. “Get lost!” With a furious roar, Rod suddenly stood up and punched the man reaching for him, knocking him to the ground. As the man screamed in pain, Rod stepped on him and said indifferently, “Quiet.” The scene fell silent; everyone stared in disbelief at what had happened—it was all too sudden. “You… attack him! Kill him!” Realizing what was happening, the man shouted at those behind him, and soon a group of people rushed at Rod like wolves. “Let’s go help!” Seeing this, Aida, the instigator, also rushed forward and called out to Bit and the others. “Damn it, trouble again!” Bit muttered bitterly, but still quickly followed them. The situation became tense as more people joined in. Watching the scene, the young man’s face turned pale, and he trembled slightly. It was obvious that these mercenaries were very strong. “Do you… do you know who I am? Do you want to rebel?” The young man glared angrily at them. But at that moment, he was alone—powerless to do anything but rage, hoping that the city’s guards would arrive soon. “He’s the young master of the city lord’s mansion. I’ve seen him before. Don’t provoke him, or we’ll be in trouble!” Bit whispered to the others, looking at the young man. “Who cares who he is? Damn it!” He grumbled inwardly, then went over to help the young man up. Seeing his weak state, Rod remembered himself back then—hadn’t he been just like this in front of Roger? Just then, the sound of noisy horse hooves came. A faint smile appeared on the young man’s lips as he stared coldly at Rod and the others, his gaze filled with sinister intent.
