Chapter 008: Night Attack Plan

“Soldiers of the First Rebellion-Fighting Army! Charge forward bravely! Only by defeating the rebels before you can you return to Guanzhong and rest properly!” A voice shouted from atop the city walls as the soldiers of the First Rebellion-Fighting Army continued to retreat.
“They’re too strong! We can’t beat them!” Many local soldiers cried out. “Open the city gates quickly! Otherwise, we’ll all be killed by them!” Some soldiers shouted up at them.
Seeing this, Du Fan couldn’t help but laugh.
In the midst of battle, saying such things was clearly meant to boost others’ morale while undermining one’s own authority. But this was just the standard quality of local armies.
Hearing this, Redcliffe’s expression turned cold. “Shoot those bastards who are sowing chaos in the army!” he ordered loudly.
Soon, under the innocent gazes of the soldiers who had just called for the gates to be opened, these local troops, along with some soldiers who were caught in the crossfire, were shot down from the city walls by arrows. They all fell to the ground with wide eyes, unwilling to give up.
“Lord Commander!” Seeing this, several key local generals knelt down at once.
Realizing things had gone this far, Redcliffe sighed inwardly. “Retreat the troops! Send them back to Guanzhong,” he said.
Quickly, the soldiers of the First Rebellion-Fighting Army, hearing the order to withdraw, rushed toward the city gates in a crowd, vying to enter Xiaohan Pass.
As the Northern Army continued to pursue, they were stopped by a barrage of arrows from about 600 meters away. Seeing this, Du Fan also ordered an immediate retreat.
…
After dinner, as darkness fell, Du Fan began to think about how to attack the city. Just then, George and Allen arrived. As soon as they sat down, George began, “Actually, Du Fan, Father already has plans to take this city.”
Hearing George’s words, Du Fan’s heart skipped a beat!
Xiaohan Pass was the biggest obstacle for the Northern Army to enter the south! Once they crossed it, there would be no more such formidable barriers in the entire Gavin Empire. After crossing Xiaohan Pass, Du Fan could lead the Northern Army straight into the south!
“Brother! What are Father’s plans?” Du Fan asked eagerly.

“Actually, it’s nothing much. Our Green family has been operating in the north for so many years, and naturally, there are many nobles who depend on us. Of course, among them are also quite a few who are utterly loyal to us.”
“Among the 400,000 troops gathered from various regions inside Xiaohan Pass, 50,000 are our own men,” George said, a strange smile appearing on his face.
“I’ve already made contact with them. As long as we find the right opportunity, they will create chaos inside Xiaohan Pass! They can even incite the local armies to rebel!” George emphasized.
“Is that true? Can they really incite other armies to rebel?” Du Fan asked loudly upon hearing George’s last words.
“Originally, I wasn’t sure, but today, Redcliffe’s attitude toward the first rebel army has already caused dissatisfaction among many local armies! Our men report that if we stir up trouble at the right time, those local armies might very well rebel alongside them,” George explained.
“Great, brother! If that’s the case, let’s act tonight!” Du Fan said loudly.
“Isn’t it too hasty to act tonight?” George asked after hearing Du Fan’s words.
“Haha, brother! A famous military strategist once said that speed is key in warfare! Even you can’t think of it, let alone that idiot Redcliffe. This way, we can catch them off guard and achieve great results!” Du Fan laughed.
“Speed is key, third brother. Was that said by that famous military strategist?” George asked curiously after Du Fan suddenly mentioned something that sounded reasonable but which he had never heard before.
“Mm, it was said by a famous military strategist from the elf race,” Du Fan replied casually, making things up.
Although George didn’t ask further, his confusion grew even deeper.
“A military strategist from the elf race? Don’t the elves always stay away from warfare? When did a military strategist suddenly appear? Could it be one of the elf kings?” George pondered in confusion.
An hour passed quickly. Under Du Fan’s leadership, a plan for action that night was quickly formulated.
“Brother, quickly pass this plan to our men so they can study it thoroughly. As soon as night falls, we’ll act right away!” Du Fan said.
“Okay, I’ll immediately send this action plan to them,” George replied repeatedly.
……

Late at night, at twelve o’clock, even at this hour when Du Fan was piloting Qing Suo high in the sky, the troops inside Xiaohan Pass were still patrolling systematically everywhere.
Watching the layout of the camp inside Xiaohan Pass, Carol kept nodding.
“Not bad. This Redcliffe does have some skills after all,” Carol said while nodding.
“Third brother, look. According to what they said, the supplies should be over there!” George suddenly pointed to a large warehouse guarded by three layers of soldiers behind the camp.
“Great! That’s exactly what we’re looking for!” Du Fan said loudly.
With a motion of his wrist, two dark paper packets appeared in Du Fan’s hands.
“Du Fan, what’s in your hands?” George and the others asked in surprise upon seeing the two dark paper packets Du Fan took out.
“Explosives!” Du Fan said with a proud expression.
“Explosives? What are explosives?” Hearing this, their faces showed confusion as they asked.
Suddenly, Du Fan remembered that in this world, no one knew what explosives were.
“Hehe, anyway, I can’t explain what explosives are right now. But don’t worry; you’ll soon know what they are,” Du Fan said with a smile.
Piloting Qing Suo, he flew quickly over the huge warehouse. At such speed, the soldiers guarding the warehouse could only see a green shadow flashing above it!
Before they could react to what it was, the warehouse suddenly exploded violently!
“Wow, Third brother, what is this? Such a small amount of energy fluctuation can cause such massive destruction!” George’s face showed disbelief.
“That’s what explosives are!” Du Fan said with a smile. “This isn’t a magical product. The magical fluctuations you felt were just from their fireball spell scrolls being activated.”
“Fireball spells? But I feel its power is at least ten thousand times greater than that of fireball spells! What does this have to do with fireball spells?” Allen asked in confusion.
“Second brother, I mean, these explosives need fireball spells to be detonated! Actually, they have nothing to do with fireball spells!” Du Fan said helplessly.

“How about this,” Du Fan thought for a moment before taking out a pile of explosives and placing them in front of him. “You all try it. Inside each explosive is a magic scroll for Fireball. It’s as simple to use as a regular magic scroll—just throw it at the target,” Du Fan said.
When the magic scroll inside the explosive came into contact with the target, it would be released automatically, triggering the explosion right away!
“Great!” Seeing Du Fan bring out so many explosives, Allen excitedly grabbed one.
“Wait! Second brother! Throw them at our designated attack targets!” Du Fan shouted loudly as he saw Allen about to throw the explosive.
…
Soon, thanks to Qing Suo’s incredible speed, one after another explosive was thrown at the tents of the Imperial City’s guards!
Thanks to the abilities of these domain experts, the explosives hit the tents with pinpoint accuracy!
“The enemy is attacking!” Many warriors inside Xiaohan Pass shouted loudly.
Those who were shouting wildly were clearly insiders from the Northern Legion! They started shouting, trying to create chaos, and quickly spread panic throughout the camp.
Seeing the chaos below, those on Qing Suo threw the explosives even more diligently.
From above Qing Suo, watching the sparks burst on the ground, those using the explosives felt extremely satisfied!
Although it wasn’t difficult for these domain experts to cause damage like that with explosives, the real challenge was sustaining such damage—requiring an immeasurable amount of energy. But now, they just needed to aim and throw them with force, without using any energy at all!
“Calm down! Stay calm! Don’t panic or act recklessly!” Redcliffe suddenly ran out of a room, shouting loudly!
In just a few minutes, nearly a thousand explosives had been thrown from Qing Suo!
Watching George, Allen, Moses, and the others keep throwing explosives, Du Fan shook his head helplessly.
It was tough. The supply of Fireweed from the elf race couldn’t keep up, but under Chenchen and Lingsound’s guidance, the refinement process for Fireweed had become more systematic!
Du Fan also had tens of thousands of explosives, but each of them was only half a jin in weight.

Watching Redcliffe run out, Du Fan’s face showed a slight smile. He controlled the Green Shuttle to approach Redcliffe quickly, aimed at him, and hurled a half-pound explosive pack at him!
Seeing a dark object falling from the sky toward him, Redcliffe instinctively dodged to the side!
Although he dodged, the spot where he stood was still within the explosion range of the explosive pack!
The exploding pack covered Redcliffe’s entire body in soot, with his clothes torn to shreds and hanging on him. However, thanks to his cultivation level, the explosion did not cause him any harm!
It turned out that Redcliffe was resting when he suddenly saw chaos among the troops, so he ran out without even putting on his armor.
After being hit by the explosive pack, he was left in a miserable state.
“Damn it!” Redcliffe started cursing without caring about his status at all. “Quickly send archers and magicians to shoot that thing flying in the sky!”
Hearing Redcliffe’s orders, pairs of archers were summoned! Pairs of magicians were also called forth.
Those wind magic users and those with flying devices flew into the air, trying to attack the Green Shuttle!
“Naixiu, take out that guy!” Du Fan said, pointing at Redcliffe.
“Okay,” Naixiu replied promptly upon hearing Du Fan’s words.
Putting down the explosive pack, Naixiu took out her elf longbow, drew an arrow, and narrowed her eyes as she focused on Redcliffe.
