Chapter 020: How to Capture Them
It seems that this new leader of the magical beasts actually wants to build an army comparable to the Black Panther Knights! Yet this leader does have innovative ideas—creating an army that can fly in the air!
According to Du Fan’s past life, such an army could be called an air force. Perhaps the people on this continent don’t understand the power of an air force, but Du Fan, who has come from modern society, has a understanding of it that is completely beyond those on this continent.
Controlling air superiority means gaining the initiative in war!
The speed of the air force, along with its ability to fight without being restricted by terrain—able to attack from above by leveraging immense inertia, and to attack from below while overcoming the pull of the ground!
Hearing Tek’s words, Du Fan immediately became interested. If he could also build an air force, capable of dropping explosives from above, such an army would be the very prototype of bombers! Du Fan thought to himself.
Moreover, the speed of flying in the air is several times that of land-based beasts. If an army of elven archers could fly, those archers in the sky would be an incredibly terrifying military force!
Seeing Du Fan deeply engrossed, Tek quickly said, “Haha, Du Fan, have you been conquered by my idea?”
“Haha, not bad, not bad. But I wonder, after conquering all those griffins, what kind of military force will you use them for?” Du Fan asked.
In the Magical Beast Mountains, there are very few humans among the magical beasts. Moreover, many of those who appear human are actually magical beasts at the sacred rank or above. Such sacred-ranked magical beasts can fly on their own, so using them to ride griffins would be a waste.
Another race among the magical beasts is the orcs. Those orcs are extremely large, weighing over 300 pounds each! Meanwhile, griffins can only carry about 250 pounds. It’s clearly unsuitable for orcs to ride griffins.
Furthermore, orcs are all close-combat units. Using such units to ride flying magical beasts would also be a serious waste.
“It’s the Air Force!” Tek said, rolling his eyes as he looked at Du Fan. “Du Fan, don’t tell me you don’t know that the Gryphon is a level-seven magical beast! Its sharp claws are strong enough to tear through tigers and leopards! Moreover, its screech can intimidate magical beasts below level five! The roar of a Gryphon can drive magical beasts below level five to flee within a radius of a thousand meters! With such power, I could simply take control of it myself—why would I need someone to ride on it?”
“The Gryphon has such abilities?” Du Fan asked in surprise after hearing Tek’s words.
“Would I lie to you?” Tek said with a smile, seeing Du Fan’s skeptical look. “But I only discovered this ability recently.”
Hearing this, Du Fan’s confusion grew even more as he stared at Tek.
“Alright, alright, stop looking at me like that. I’ll tell you. In the past, the Gryphons people saw usually lived in groups of twenty or thirty at most. To unleash their intimidating ability, at least fifty Gryphons need to roar together,” Tek said seriously.
Only then did Du Fan believe him.
“Commander, by your reasoning, there must be more than fifty Gryphons in the Skangacha Strait, right?” Du Fan asked.
“Haha, fifty? Could fifty magical beasts really draw our great Commander out in person?” Tek laughed heartily at Du Fan’s words.
“Then how many?” Du Fan asked immediately.
“How many? Haha, Du Fan, anyway, we’re already quite close to the Skangacha Strait. How about you come with me to take a look?” Tek said with a laugh.
“Okay, I’ll go with you!” Du Fan replied right away.
“Come on! Follow me!” Tek said, then transformed into a streak of light and flew eastward.
Upon arriving at the Skangacha Strait, Du Fan was immediately captivated by its scenery. This blue strait stretched pure and untouched into the Twilight Mountains, like a smooth blue silk ribbon inserted into a sea of green. Du Fan, flying in the sky, took one glance and immediately felt refreshed.
In the Skangacha Strait, the cliff faces near the sea are perfectly flat, as if carved by knives and axes, yet they appear entirely natural, which is truly astonishing!
“Dufan, do you know how the Skangacha Strait was formed?” Tek asked as they flew in the sky.
“I don’t know,” Dufan replied honestly upon hearing Tek’s question.
“I knew it. It’s impossible for humans to understand the true reason behind the formation of the Skangacha Strait. Well then, I’ll tell you! The Skangacha Strait was created by humans!” Tek said seriously.
“That can’t be! It’s such a long strait, dozens of meters wide! Moreover, its depth seems bottomless! How could such a project be man-made?” Dufan said, full of disbelief.
“Would I lie to you?” Tek replied disdainfully at Dufan’s words.
It seemed that whenever Dufan doubted the truth of Tek’s words, it only earned Tek’s disdainful look.
“A divine battle once took place here in the Skangacha Strait, and one of the main characters in that battle was the Goddess of Ice and Snow,” Tek continued. “The Goddess of Ice and Snow displayed incredible power during the battle, constantly using powerful, forbidden ice magic along the battle route. It was these forbidden spells that froze and corroded the mountains along the way, turning the Twilight Mountains into what they are today.”
“In that case, that Goddess of Ice and Snow isn’t just a low-ranking god like you,” Dufan said immediately after hearing Tek’s explanation.
“Dufan! You really drive me crazy! I’m not a low-ranking god! You should know that I now possess the divine essence of a mid-ranking god! Soon, I’ll be a mid-ranking god! I am a mid-ranking god!” Tek shouted.
“I know, but right now you still have the cultivation level of a low-ranking god. No matter how much you claim otherwise, you’re still a low-ranking god!” Dufan asked with a smile.
“Alright, alright, we’re almost at the habitat of the griffins. Let’s get ready quickly!” Tek said seriously.
They stood on one side of the Skangacha Strait, watching giant griffins with divine bodies gliding over the sea beside the cliffs.
Seeing those strong griffins, Du Fan’s heart immediately warmed up. However, there was one issue: the number of griffins didn’t seem sufficient to form an air force.
“It doesn’t seem like there are many!” Du Fan thought and spoke up right away.
“Heh, not many? Just wait!” Hearing Du Fan’s words, Tek laughed. After saying that, he suddenly let out a long howl, and one after another, groups of griffins flew out from the crevices where they perched!
Watching the growing number of griffins before him, Du Fan felt excited! It seemed he had enough griffins to serve as mounts for a thousand-strong army.
Group after group of griffins flew out at Tek’s calls, soon covering the sky entirely.
Soon, the griffins spotted Du Fan and Tek and descended from the sky with roars. With a target in sight, they charged at Du Fan and Tek in unison.
“Let’s go!” Seeing this, Tek grabbed Du Fan and ran away.
At their divine-speed, the griffins couldn’t keep up. Soon, Tek and Du Fan were far away, with no griffins in pursuit.
“Commander, even level-seven magical beasts can’t pose a threat to us. Why do we need to run?” Du Fan asked immediately after hearing this.
“That’s true. With our current strength, we indeed don’t need to run. But do you want to kill those griffins?” Tek asked back.
“I wouldn’t harm a griffin unless it’s absolutely necessary. If I hurt one, the others will keep attacking us. Besides, griffins are very vengeful. If I kill one, the others will remember my appearance. Even if I capture them, they won’t submit to me,” Du Fan said.
“Right. It seems you understand the characteristics of griffins well. Du Fan, what method do you think we should use to capture many griffins?” Tek asked.
“The best way is to use net-like tools. Throwing nets from the air should be quite effective,” Du Fan replied.
“That probably won’t work,” Tek said. “That way, we can only catch one at a time, and while capturing them, we’d also have to face attacks from other griffins. The efficiency would be very low!” After hearing Du Fan’s answer, Tek thought for a moment before speaking.
“Does the Great Commander have a better way?” Hearing this, Du Fan quickly asked.
“Yes, but it can’t be used now!” said the Demon Lord Commander.
“Why not?” Du Fan asked promptly upon hearing Tek’s reply.
“I do have a skill that can stun these griffins over a large area, but these griffins never stray far from the cliffs. If I use that skill, many of them will likely be stunned and fall into the sea, which could result in killing many of them by mistake,” Tek said gloomily.
“So, as long as we lure these griffins away and keep them at a distance, the Great Commander is confident he can subdue them, right?” Du Fan asked quickly after hearing Tek’s words.
“That’s right, exactly,” Tek nodded repeatedly in agreement.
Glancing at Tek strangely, Du Fan suddenly asked, “Aren’t you the Second Commander of the demons in the Dusk Mountains? Logically, all the demons in these mountains should obey your orders, right?”
“Du Fan, you don’t know everything. Among the demons in the Dusk Mountains, the area we can truly rule effectively is only three-fifths of the entire mountain range. All we can control is this central region,” Tek said.
“Back then, my brother and I fought hard to establish dominance for the demons, defeating experts from various races through battle! It was purely through force that we forced them to obey us!” Tek added.
