Chapter 019: Escape
“Who are you? Why do you also want to attack us?” The figure in the shadow saw Du Fan and the other two appearing quickly in front of them and hurriedly spoke.
“We are naturally from the Northern Legion,” Du Fan replied immediately upon hearing the question.
“People from the Northern Legion—why start a war with us?” The shadow was furious.
“We’re not starting a war. We’re here to attack you by order of Prince Fischer. Hmph, actually, your northern region is so poor—what do we possibly want from you?” Du Fan began to talk nonsense.
“It’s still war! Look around us—so many people have already died. If this isn’t war, then what is?” the shadow shouted.
“Ah, if you knew you couldn’t defeat us, why not surrender early? Why keep fighting?” Du Fan suddenly said in frustration.
“You’re crazy! It’s clearly you who are bullying us. But in your words, it seems like I’m the one at fault!” the shadow said angrily.
“So what do you plan to do now? If you don’t want to fight, just surrender to us,” Du Fan said with a smile.
“Hmph, I’ll never surrender,” the shadow replied.
“Oh, are you a woman?” Du Fan guessed immediately upon hearing the tone of the shadow.
“Ah! How did you know?” The shadow was shocked that Du Fan had guessed her gender.
“Look at you—a girl who could do anything else but chooses to fight! Well, now you’ve lost, right?” Du Fan said.
“You’re bandits, a bunch of shameless invaders!” Once Du Fan revealed her identity, the woman became furious.
Hearing her loud cries, Du Fan raised his hand, and a gust of wind suddenly blew toward her.
The woman, who was cursing, wasn’t prepared for this move. Her black cloth covering her body was instantly blown away by Du Fan’s wind.
As the cloth was blown away, a woman with an extremely graceful figure suddenly appeared before Du Fan!
In the early morning light, it was hard to see clearly what her face looked like, but just by seeing her figure, Du Fan felt like he might burst into a nosebleed!
After seeing so many beauties, this was the first time Du Fan had encountered such a stunning figure!
Slender legs that suddenly became rounder at the hips! Then, a sudden shrinkage! Followed by a graceful expansion, with a pair of full breasts suddenly protruding at the chest!
Looking from bottom to top, right at the woman’s prominent breasts, Du Fan suddenly felt his nose heat up!
He quickly calmed himself down and forced back that surge of passion, but he heard Moses’s heavy breathing in his ears.
“You!” The woman’s black cloth was blown away suddenly, and she immediately grew annoyed.
“What about me? You run out in the middle of the night, covered in a black cloth—what kind of behavior is that?” Du Fan spoke loudly before she could finish.
As he spoke louder, he also took in the woman’s graceful figure beneath her light leather armor.
“You’re really shameless!” The woman flew into a rage!
As soon as she finished speaking, she stood up and rushed at the three of them, with a fierce killing intent! That killing intent was like a sword that had been prepared for a long time and suddenly drawn!
Feeling that killing intent, Du Fan and Moses were stunned!
To be honest, facing such a woman, these two strong men really didn’t know how to proceed!
While they were thinking, the woman suddenly took out something and slapped it on herself—white light flashed, and she disappeared instantly!
“Damn it!” Seeing her use their attack as cover to suddenly pull out a space transfer scroll and escape, Du Fan could only curse helplessly in the face of such a person.
Space transfers were random, so at that moment, Du Fan really had no idea where she had been taken!
“Let’s go!” Du Fan suddenly said.
With a wave of his hand, the Green Shuttle carried the three of them back toward Leopard City.
When they returned to Leopard City, the battle there had already ended. By then, it was already daylight, and under the morning sun, the scene was truly gruesome!
Dead bodies lay everywhere, bleeding!
Destroyed houses!
Leopard City’s people crying bitterly after losing their loved ones—all of this constituted the tragic aftermath of war.
“Third brother! You’re back!” Seeing Du Fan return, blood-covered George rushed up to greet him.
“Yes, I’m back, but we couldn’t catch that man in black,” Du Fan said apologetically.
“It doesn’t matter. As long as we capture Leopard City, everything else can be sorted out!” George repeated repeatedly.
“Brother, what should we do next?” Du Fan suddenly asked.
“Wait for orders from Father,” George replied simply.
Hearing this, Du Fan nodded.
“Third brother, I heard you’re in Bear City and came up with some military rules for the second brother. Father was very impressed when he heard about it, and now we’ve started implementing them here too. It seems that every time we capture a place, these rules will be enforced,” George said with a smile.
While Du Fan and George were talking, a soldier suddenly approached.
“Third young master! Someone is looking for you!” The soldier saluted immediately upon seeing Du Fan.
“Oh, do you know them?” Hearing that someone was looking for him, Du Fan quickly asked.
“I don’t know them, but the person is wearing a long robe; it seems to be someone from the Church,” the soldier said.
“Where? Take me there quickly.” Hearing it was someone from the Church, Du Fan said hurriedly.
Soon, in a large room, there stood a group of nearly a hundred clergy members. When they saw Du Fan, the leader among them spoke up, “Du Fan, I have something to discuss with you.”
Hearing this voice, Du Fan was shocked—it was indeed Archbishop Anthony’s voice!
“Your Eminence! Please tell me what you need!” Du Fan quickly bowed.
“Hehe, Du Fan, since we’re both outside now, there’s no need for such formalities,” Anthony said, a satisfied smile appearing on his face as he saw Du Fan still bowing to him as before.
In Du Fan’s mind, Archbishop Anthony was indeed much better than Fisher.
At least, Archbishop Anthony had never attacked him.
So, Du Fan still held him in respect.
“Actually, it’s not a big deal,” Anthony said as he helped Du Fan up. “Du Fan, as you know, this frozen land on the Roland Continent is the one most lacking in the light of the God of Light. I’ve come here to discuss spreading the faith within the Frozen Alliance.”
“No problem, Your Eminence. Just tell me what you want to do,” Du Fan agreed immediately.
To be honest, since Anthony had come in person as an archbishop, Du Fan had to give him face. Besides, Du Fan himself held a religious position as the head of Divine Might Prison, which meant he was still under Anthony’s authority.
“Haha, Du Fan, how about this? Since you haven’t captured any cities yet, assign us a piece of land. Once I’ve settled our church’s people there, we can start preaching. Well, if the Frozen Alliance falls under the control of the Gavin Empire, it will become part of the Gavin Diocese, and it’s only natural for me to preach here,” said Anthony.
“No problem, Your Eminence. Within the territory of Leopard City, the palace will be given to you,” said Du Fan with a smile.
“Really?” Anthony was shocked upon hearing that Du Fan would directly assign the palace to the church.
By convention, if Du Fan assigned the palace to the church, then no matter which city the Northern Legion captured later, the best buildings in that city would belong to the church.
“Of course, Your Eminence. I am also a devout believer in the God of Light. It’s an honor for me to offer the best to Him!” said Du Fan with utmost piety.
“Good! Du Fan, I promise you that once you take control of the Frozen Alliance, all church tithes in your territory will be reduced by half!” Anthony replied immediately.
In the Roland Continent, church tithes were a very heavy tax—everyone had to unconditionally give one-tenth of their income to the church. With these tithes halved, the Green family’s income would increase significantly!
“In that case! On behalf of my father, I thank You Eminence greatly!” Du Fan promptly thanked him respectfully.
“Good, good! Du Fan, as a devout believer like you, you will receive the eternal blessings of the God of Light!” Anthony said seriously and devoutly.
“Your Eminence, Leopard City has just gone through war. This is the perfect time for our church to spread its teachings! Please arrange for people to start working as soon as possible,” said Du Fan urgently.
“Alright, I’ll arrange it right away!” Anthony replied at once.
“Good, Your Eminence. Since that’s the case, I have one more matter to discuss with my elder brother. After all, assigning the royal city to the church still requires his consent. But I believe he’ll agree after I persuade him,” said Du Fan with a smile.
“Hmm, Du Fan, if you have anything to do, go ahead. I’ll also discuss with them the matter of preaching in the Frozen Alliance,” Anthony replied with a nod.
“Well then, My Lord Bishop, I’ll take my leave!” Du Fan said.
“Go ahead,” Anthony replied.
……
“Third brother, did you really let them in to spread their religion? And you also decided to assign the royal cities to them?” George frowned after hearing Du Fan’s words.
It was clear that the Green family now regarded the Frozen Alliance as their own territory. How could there be another institution like the Church in their territory, sharing their power?
“Elder brother, think about it. If the Church’s forces don’t enter, Fischer’s forces will. Instead of letting Fischer benefit, we might as well place the Church’s people here first. At least, with the Church’s forces here, they’ll be an ally rather than an enemy to us,” Du Fan said with a smile.
“Think about it, elder brother. If we invade the Frozen Alliance, we’ll need eighteen armies to guard just the royal cities of those eighteen duchies. That will greatly spread out our forces! If the Church’s forces get involved and help with governance, we can save a lot of manpower, resources, and effort!” Du Fan continued.
“Moreover, elder brother, the Church’s priests are best at healing and helping people overcome pain. Look, even now, without occupying a single city, we’re already causing casualties and destruction. Isn’t this exactly when we need the Church?” Du Fan said. “They can not only help heal the wounded but also heal people’s hearts!”
