Chapter 003: Harry Potter
Seeing his father’s expression, Du Fan smiled slightly. For him, as long as Rob remained on the continent, he would never lack this primordial energy, though the quantity couldn’t be very large.
Taking out another set of weapons and armor from the ring, Du Fan said to Duke Green with a smile, “Father, what do you think of this set?”
“What excellent weapons and armor!” Duke Green examined them carefully, his eyes shining. Having spent decades in the military, he had a keen eye for weapons and armor—these were clearly of masterful quality!
These weapons and armor were actually provided by a dwarf named Basha from the dwarf warehouse. They had been crafted and stored there strictly according to the standards set by the Dwarf King, whose standards were extremely high. What passed as qualified products in the eyes of the Dwarf King were considered masterpieces in Duke Green’s eyes!
This wasn’t surprising, as the outstanding craftsmen of the dwarf race could easily match the master level of humans!
“Du Fan, are you giving these to me? It seems, given your current wealth, giving something like this to your father might be a bit beneath you. Though, these items are indeed quite good,” Duke Green said with a smile.
When Du Fan took out these items, Duke Green had already guessed his intention. At first, he thought they were meant for himself, after all, they were presented on Duke Green’s behalf. But he quickly dismissed this idea—given that Du Fan already possessed rare things like divine power and primordial energy, it was unlikely they were just a set of ordinary weapons and armor. Even so, their quality was indeed masterful.
“Father, of course they’re for you. But not just one set—hundred thousand sets,” Du Fan said with a smile.
“Hundred thousand sets!” Hearing this, Duke Green stood up abruptly.
“That’s right, Father. It’s indeed hundred thousand sets. To be honest, I have a total of three hundred thousand sets. Back in the Twilight Mountains, the Dwarf King gave me three hundred thousand sets of such weapons and armor. I plan to keep two hundred thousand for myself, and give the remaining hundred thousand to you,” Du Fan said with a smile.
“Great! Great! With such 100,000 sets of weapons and armor, I can once again assemble an elite Northern Legion!” Duke Green’s eyes shone with enthusiasm!
All along, money and weapons/armor had been the main constraints on the growth of the Northern Legion. Due to these limitations, its regular forces had always remained at 100,000 men.
With the Origin Power provided by Du Fan, which could be exchanged for large amounts of gold coins, along with 100,000 sets of high-quality weapons and armor crafted by outstanding dwarf craftsmen, another elite Northern Legion emerged in Duke Green’s mind!
The current soldiers of the Northern Legion were all between 18 and 23 years old, with a service period of five years. After five years, unless a soldier performed exceptionally well and was promoted to officer, they would all retire!
Of course, those who retired were also highly skilled. It wasn’t that Duke Green didn’t want to keep them—it was simply that he didn’t have enough funds to support them.
An ordinary soldier earned five gold coins per month, totaling 60 gold coins per year. Adding expenses for food, clothing, housing, transportation, training equipment, and military supplies, the average annual cost for a soldier in the Northern Legion was 80 gold coins!
This was an unimaginable amount for other armies! Thus, the Northern Legion’s annual expenditure amounted to nearly 100 million gold coins!
The formation of the Northern Legion as the empire’s most formidable fighting force also relied heavily on substantial financial investment!
With the financial support and weapons/armor provided by Du Fan, Duke Green was fully confident in being able to assemble another Northern Legion in a short time!
In the northern territories, at Duke Green’s call, those retired Northern Legion soldiers would surely gather!
With sufficient material support, he was confident in creating several more elite units like the current Northern Legion. Those retired soldiers had already undergone five years of rigorous military training and combat experience, making them excellent fighters. With short-term retraining, they could easily return to being elite members of the Northern Legion!
“Good, son. What you’ve done is equivalent to creating another Northern Legion. Here, I thank you.” Duke Green said earnestly.
“Father is being too modest. As long as we can conquer the Frozen Alliance and let Prince Fischer see the might of our Green family’s army, heh, then we’ll take half of the Frozen Alliance’s territory and make Fischer regret it!” Du Fan said with a smile.
“Father, I’ll set off for the south tomorrow. If you need any weapons or armor, just let me know. With that pervert Robb around, they can be delivered to the north within a day,” Du Fan said.
“Very well, child. I’ll also give you a gift when you leave tomorrow,” Duke Green said with a smile.
“What kind of gift?” Du Fan asked, interested upon hearing this.
“It’s a secret. You’ll find out tomorrow,” Duke Green replied with a smile.
Having decided to go to the south, Du Fan began preparing to move the underground laboratory there as well. Although not much money was spent on building it initially, its value had since grown beyond what money could measure, thanks to the gradual improvements made by Chenchen and Ringtone.
The next day, as Du Fan got ready to head south, he found the courtyard filled with people!
“Son, these hundreds of people are all talents I gathered for you in the capital. They are wise individuals from the common people, as well as those in the government who couldn’t be promoted due to their lack of noble status. These talents should be enough to help you in your urgent needs,” Duke Green said with a smile.
“Father is truly thoughtful. With such talents in my southern lands, they will surely thrive and flourish!” Du Fan laughed loudly.
Based on his experience, Du Fan knew that these were truly talented people. Such individuals who had long been frustrated would quickly bring out their wisdom once given enough opportunity in his domain.
Among the crowd were Robb, Lilith, Chenchen, Ringtone, and even Princess Angel.
After bidding farewell to his parents, as Du Fan prepared to lead the group of hundreds away, someone reported that Fischer’s orders had arrived.
“Not bad. Your brother is also coming to see me off,” Du Fan said to Princess Angel with a smile.
“Du Fan, he is him, and I am me. What he means doesn’t represent what I mean,” Angel said with a smile. “Look, this time I didn’t bring a single attendant. I’m fully prepared to live in the south with you,” Angel said with a smile.
The orders brought by Fisher didn’t contain anything particularly important. They mainly instructed Du Fan to take good care of Princess Angel, along with penalties for killing so many members of the Lionheart family. The punishment was actually quite simple: aside from the lands he already owned as a result of his military achievements in the south, all other honors, medals, and the million gold coins as rewards were taken away from him.
Upon reading Fisher’s orders, Du Fan sneered coldly.
“Let’s set off!” Du Fan shouted. A group of several hundred people started moving from Duke Green’s residence toward the southern gate of the capital!
After leaving the southern gate, after traveling about ten miles, a large group of military horses was stopped ahead.
“Are you Young Master Du Fan?” the leading general asked loudly.
“That’s right, I am Du Fan,” Du Fan replied upon hearing the question.
Upon hearing it was Du Fan, the man immediately dismounted and knelt in front of him, saying, “Third Young Master, we are soldiers from the Northern Legion. The Duke has ordered us to wait here for you and escort you to the south.” said the general.
Though called a general, this man was actually just a company commander in the Northern Legion.
“If that’s the case, follow us,” Du Fan said.
“Third Young Master, the Duke has prepared a hundred carriages specifically for those people to travel to the south by carriage,” the company commander said.
As he spoke, the company commander waved his hand, and the soldiers around him quickly dispersed, revealing a row of caravans in front of them.
Soon, after two or three people boarded each carriage, the group accelerated their pace toward the Siluo Province!
After riding in the carriages for nearly twenty miles, a group of people suddenly appeared ahead. These people were dressed in ordinary clothes. Upon seeing the group of six or seven hundred people, the leader among them also shouted.
“Is Duke Du Fan here?”
This voice sounded very familiar to Du Fan’s ears.
“Is it Master Barbari?” Du Fan asked loudly as well.
“Haha, Duke Du Fan, we’ve been waiting here for two hours until we finally saw you. Look, these are seventy magic teachers from our Magic Guild, each specializing in different schools of magic, all ranging from fifth-level mages to those at the Saint level. We hope to establish a magic academy as soon as possible with your help, Your Grace,” said Master Barbary with a smile.
“Master Barbary, are there any Saint-level mages among you? Please bring them here at once!” Du Fan was surprised to hear that the Magic Guild had Saint-level experts.
“Elders, Your Grace would like to meet with you!” Master Barbary suddenly called out to the group of mages behind him.
Soon, two mages with snow-white hair and beards floated over to Du Fan.
“Greetings, Your Grace,” the two mages said to Du Fan simultaneously.
Of course, they bowed to Du Fan not because he was an imperial duke, but because they had also witnessed his battle against the Ice and Fire Duo and Randy at the Magic Tower. In that battle, Du Fan had demonstrated mastery at the domain level!
Their bow to Du Fan was one of respect toward a domain mage.
“Haha, you two are too polite! What are your names? What magic do you specialize in?” Du Fan quickly asked.
“My name is Harry, and his is Potter. I specialize in lightning magic, while Master Potter specializes in fire magic. Since we usually work together, the Magic Guild considers us a duo team, so mages often just call us Harry Potter,” Master Harry replied upon Du Fan’s question.
