Chapter 009: The Emperor Forces Marriage
It could be said that Fisher’s greatest concern regarding Du Fan was Nayixiu behind him, and the elf race she represented.
There were tens of thousands of skilled warriors, including archers and magicians adept at long-range attacks, as well as the formidable magic warriors of the elf race! There were even the legendary druids and elf archers!
In Fisher’s eyes, the Northern Army and Du Fan’s forces were nothing that could cause a major disturbance. What truly concerned him was the entire elf race!
If he could force a rift between Du Fan and Nayixiu, then Fisher would be able to deal with Du Fan—including the entire Green family—without any hesitation.
It seemed that Prince Fisher had already begun to take steps against him. With this first move, Du Fan already felt somewhat overwhelmed.
In fact, this high-ranking prince hadn’t even used any actual tactics; he merely brought up an edict from the late emperor to force Du Fan to make a choice.
If Du Fan chose to marry the princess, he would have to face Nayixiu. Whether Nayixiu would agree to having another wife, let alone becoming a concubine, was the key issue.
Of course, Du Fan already knew that even if he took several wives home, Nayixiu wouldn’t object. The real issue was whether she would agree to be a concubine.
Even if Nayixiu agreed, Du Fan was sure the other elves would never consent! How absurd— the queen of the elves, who had already married a human, was now expected to become a concubine!
If the elf queen became a concubine, the entire elf race would likely lose face before other races.
“Good, son. This move by the prince is meant to create a rift between you and Nayixiu. Once a rift appears, I’m sure he’ll be able to widen it!” said Duke Green.
Hearing his father’s words, Du Fan nodded in agreement. Having witnessed Fisher’s tactics, his methodical and confident strategies, and his foresight in making advance plans, Du Fan felt a sense of tension.
Although Du Fan had experienced two lifetimes, after going through that coup and witnessing Fischer’s wisdom, he was deeply impressed by Fischer’s effortless grace. Even Du Fan was completely awed by Fischer’s demeanor. Facing such a situation, he felt confident he couldn’t do better than Fischer—indeed, he even thought he might not be able to reach Fischer’s level at all.
“Father, if that’s the case, what should we do?” Du Fan asked.
“Never agree! At the very least, we must ensure Nai Xiu’s family status is above Princess Angel!” Duke Green said fiercely.
“Then I know what to do,” Du Fan nodded.
“Also, Du Fan, His Majesty has asked me to inform you that you must attend tomorrow’s morning court session,” Duke Green added.
“Oh, so soon?” Du Fan said with a smile, already pondering what might happen at tomorrow’s court.
“Calculating from today, it should be the second day since you arrived in the capital at a normal pace. By usual convention, you should attend the morning court tomorrow as well,” Duke Green replied with a smile.
“Alright, Father, don’t worry about that. I’ll go discuss this with Nai Xiu,” Du Fan said with a smile.
“That’s good. It’s best for you to hear Nai Xiu’s thoughts first,” Duke Green said.
Back in his room, Du Fan found Nai Xiu still asleep. It seemed she had been extremely exhausted that night.
Thinking back, yesterday, even with six girls together, they could only withstand Du Fan’s attacks for about forty minutes, while last night, Du Fan and Nai Xiu had been fighting for nearly two hours!
Even with her body strengthened by the Spring of Life and her skills as a domain expert, she could barely hold up. She went to bed early in the morning and hadn’t woken up yet!
Seeing that her covers were thrown aside, Du Fan quietly stepped forward and pulled the blanket over her. Just as he did that, Nai Xiu slowly woke up, still groggy.
“Du Fan, are you awake?” Nai Xiu said with a smile upon seeing him.
It seemed she thought Du Fan had been sleeping beside her the whole time.
“Mm, Nai Xiu. I just woke up—I just returned,” Du Fan said with a smile.
“Well, Du Fan, you went out early in the morning? Where did you go?” Nayiuxiu asked again with a smile.
“I went to the old place I used to frequent, and also went out with Rob,” Du Fan replied.
“Oh, I see.” Hearing this, Nayiuxiu nodded.
As soon as she finished speaking, Nayiuxiu tried to get up from bed, but immediately winced in pain and sat back down.
“What’s wrong?” Du Fan asked anxiously upon seeing her condition.
“It’s still because of the thing you did yesterday—it still hurts so much!” Nayiuxiu said angrily.
“Then rest well!” Du Fan quickly said, and immediately fetched a cup of Water of Life to give her to drink.
After drinking the Water of Life, Nayiuxiu immediately felt refreshed.
Seeing her improvement, a sinister thought suddenly arose in Du Fan’s mind: What if such a situation happened again in the future? He might need to prepare more Water of Life for these women!
At this thought, a strange expression appeared on Du Fan’s face.
Noticing his expression, Nayiuxiu asked curiously, “Du Fan, what are you thinking about?”
Startled by her question, Du Fan snapped out of his filthy thoughts.
“Oh, Nayiuxiu, I want to talk to you about something,” he said quickly as she looked at him.
“What is it?” Nayiuxiu asked eagerly when she saw he was serious.
“It’s this—there’s something I almost forgot. When I was very young, Fisher’s father, the old emperor, arranged a marriage for me by giving me a princess as my wife. I had almost forgotten about it, but today, His Highness Fisher sent word asking when I intend to marry the princess,” Du Fan explained.
Hearing this, Nayiuxiu laughed and said, “Congrats! You’re going to marry a princess. Hehe, didn’t I say? As long as I’m your wife, that’s enough. For a man as outstanding as you, it’s normal to have several wives at home.”
“But His Highness Fisher also made it clear that if that princess marries into our family, she must be the main wife!” Du Fan said, secretly observing Nayiuxiu’s expression.
To Du Fan’s surprise, Naixiu’s expression remained extremely calm. “Du Fan, the fact that we can be together is entirely due to the will of the Goddess of Nature. I think, no matter what happens, I am still your wife. Whatever decision you make, I will support you!” Naixiu said solemnly.
Hearing Naixiu’s words, Du Fan felt warmth in his heart.
After that warmth subsided, Du Fan said, “Naixiu, don’t worry. No matter what happens, I will never force you to be a concubine. Otherwise, you wouldn’t be able to face your people properly. If the Queen of Elves marries someone like me and then forces you to be a concubine, there will likely be a lot of opposition among the elves! For your sake and for the elves as well, Naixiu, don’t worry. No matter what the consequences are, at the very least, I want you to be my main wife.” Du Fan also spoke solemnly.
Hearing Du Fan say this, Naixiu became very gentle and leaned her head on his shoulder. For a moment, their hearts were filled with warmth.
“Du Fan, what if one of the Phish Emperors insists that you marry a princess instead of me?” Naixiu asked softly, leaning on his shoulder.
“If he dares to force me like that, I’ll dare to rebel against him,” Du Fan said with a smile. “But from what I know about him, he wouldn’t go that far just for such a thing.”
“Then what’s his real purpose this time?” Naixiu raised her head and asked Du Fan.
“I think he’s testing me. In his mind, my greatest support is the entire elf race. He dares to face our Green Family’s northern army and my elite southern troops, but Prince Phish isn’t sure he can handle the elves’ archers and magicians!” Du Fan analyzed.
“So, Du Fan, no matter what happens, I will support your decision. I won’t give him the chance to create discord between us,” Naixiu said gently.
Hearing Naixiu say this, Du Fan gently pulled her into his arms.
“One more thing, Du Fan—you’d better find more wives soon,” Naixiu said seriously.
Seeing Naixiu like this, Du Fan’s heart tightened, but he quickly replied, “Why?”
“Ah, you really drive me crazy these days! If I have to take care of you alone from now on, I probably won’t last long before I die,” Nayixiu said with a smile.
“Am I that terrible?” Du Fan touched his chin, blinked, and said to Nayixiu.
“I really don’t know. How can you become so fierce after sleeping for three days? I must find you more wives; otherwise, how will I get through the days ahead?” Nayixiu complained.
“What if I marry that princess into our family tomorrow?” Du Fan suggested tentatively.
“Dare you! You just said it was definitely me who grew up! Before you marry me, you’re not allowed to marry any other woman!” Nayixiu pretended to be fierce.
“Haha! Weren’t we already married in the elf realm back then? Those cute elves even prepared a new house and bed for us!” Du Fan laughed loudly.
Suddenly, Nayixiu said, “Du Fan, while you were unconscious these past few days, the mercenary guild kept sending messages about Lord Buzhe. But after analyzing them, none of them were useful—either they were outdated or the person mentioned wasn’t Lord Buzhe at all.” Nayixiu thought of something and quickly told Du Fan.
Actually, it wasn’t the fault of those who sent the information. In the eyes of those mercenaries, any elf who acted like a human ranger was considered to be Lord Buzhe, whom Du Fan had offered a reward for finding. After all, in the eyes of humans, all elves looked similar.
Even those elf slaves taken out for a stroll by their masters were sometimes mistaken for Buzhe.
No wonder, in the eyes of those mercenaries, a thousand gold coins were enough to motivate them to try, even if they knew the chance of success was small. What if that person really was Buzhe? A thousand gold coins would be a windfall!
