Chapter 010: Picking the Moon
Du Fan spoke so loudly that it immediately drew all attention in the hall. Those noble young masters and ladies were no ordinary people; upon hearing Du Fan’s words, they knew there would be something interesting happening that night.
Princess Angel, too, was more than willing to cooperate. She covered her mouth and gasped in delight, saying, “Is that so? Really? Then, Lord Randy… could you please pick down the moon for me right now?”
All she lacked was pulling at Randy’s sleeve a few times. She was already stunningly beautiful, and with such coquettish behavior, she became even more enchanting. Seeing her expression, how could Randy possibly say no?
All eyes in the room were fixed on Randy, who felt a mix of emotions—more nervous than ever, even when facing thousands of enemies on the battlefield. But Du Fan didn’t give him a chance to refuse. He clapped his hands and declared loudly, “Someone! Lord Randy is going to pick the moon from the sky for Princess Angel in the garden. Immediately set up the banquet there and get everything ready right away…”
He glanced around again and added calmly, “I, Du Fan, have privately changed the location of the banquet. I hope you won’t mind!”
The nobles were all waiting to see Randy’s embarrassment, laughing and saying, “We don’t mind! At all!” Even a few who had previously supported the Lionheart family said the same. After all, this wasn’t a political struggle—it involved a woman…
Princess Angel was the sweetheart of many noble young masters. Seeing her most powerful rival suffer a setback, who wouldn’t be pleased?
Seeing this, Du Fan smiled slightly and turned to Princess Angel and Randy, saying, “Well then, you two… go ahead!”
Princess Angel laughed and stepped outside immediately. Randy had a complicated expression. He had planned to leave, but seeing her retreating figure, he gritted his teeth and followed her.
Soon, the men and women at the banquet, guided by the servants, crowded toward the garden. The banquet table was already set there, but no one ate or drank yet—everyone just watched where Randy was. Princess Angel also gazed at him with admiration.
Du Fan simply smiled lightly, tapped his hand a few times, and indeed pulled out several magic scrolls, placing them in front of Randy before smiling slightly and saying, “Lord Randy! Please go!”
Randy’s expression was complex. He glanced at Angel, who looked full of hope, then at the crowd around them. Finally, he gritted his teeth and said, “Then, Your Highness! Randy will go and fetch the moon from the sky!”
He said this with gritted teeth, knowing full well he could never accomplish it—but in front of the woman he loved, he had to at least try his best.
He stepped into the garden, gave Angel a loving look, and then performed a noble gesture toward her carefully before looking up at the sky. A determined glint appeared in his eyes, and his blue combat energy immediately surged.
Various gasps were heard around him. Clearly, these nobles never expected Lord Randy to actually try to reach the sky to fetch the moon.
Du Fan nodded secretly. It was obvious that Lord Randy’s combat energy had reached level six, showing he was by no means an incompetent person. But to use such abilities just to reach the sky… probably…
Just then, Randy gritted his teeth again, his combat energy boiling as he rushed upward into the sky, turning into a blue meteor heading toward the moon…
Angel seemed to sigh softly and suddenly asked, “Lord Du Fan, do you think Lord Randy can do it?”
Du Fan smiled meaningfully and after a moment said softly, “Your Highness Angel… don’t you know the answer in your heart?”
Angel laughed but remained silent, still staring at the sky… Finally, a “snap” was heard, and then they saw Randy’s embarrassed figure falling from the sky. He looked utterly ashamed, but still gritted his teeth, walked up to Angel, knelt down, and declared loudly, “Your Highness… Randy has failed you and has no place to hide in shame. But please be assured, in this lifetime… I will definitely accomplish this for you!”
As he spoke, Randy suddenly glanced at Du Fan, a fierce look flashing in his eyes.
Clearly, Lord Randy couldn’t win the heart of the woman he loved, so now he was directing his resentment toward Du Fan.
Du Fan felt extremely strange. Initially, there was nothing when he was targeted by this man, but in just an instant, the two of them might become mortal enemies in the future.
But Du Fan wasn’t someone easy to deal with either. Since Randy hated him so much, how could he let him get through this so easily? Hmph…
Over there, a few laughs could already be heard among the crowd. Angel also looked disappointed, staring at Randy as if on the verge of crying. “So you can’t do it either… Then why lie to me!?”
Randy had no answer for that and could only lower his head.
At this point, he had failed in his attempts to win her over.
Seeing this, Du Fan finally chuckled and said, “Your Highness… please don’t be sad. The moon in the sky has never been able to be picked down by anyone, through the ages… How about you ask for something else? I’m sure Lord Randy will get it for you!”
Randy was slightly stunned. Before he could speak, Angel sighed softly and said, “It’s all unnecessary… I don’t even know what my brother likes anymore… Better forget it!”
Hearing Angel say such things, Randy felt utterly ashamed. But the noble youths around them were all overjoyed.
After all, without a competitor like Randy, it would be much easier to pursue Princess Angel in the future.
Upon hearing Angel’s words, Du Fan suddenly sighed and stared at Randy, saying, “Lord Randy… Look, you’ve made a girl sad like this. Remember, we are nobles—don’t make empty promises if we can’t keep them… Princess Angel, even if this is my fault as Du Fan, please don’t be so sad… As for Prince Fisher, I’ll go explain things for you tomorrow.”
Angel just shook her head, saying nothing.
As for Randy, who was kneeling on the ground, hearing Du Fan’s words filled him with anger. Suddenly, he stood up, glaring at Du Fan and shouting, “Du Fan! Don’t just talk without doing anything! If you’re so capable, then go pick down that moon and show us!”
Du Fan smiled. “To be honest, I really can’t do that.”
Randy sneered, “If you can’t do it, then stop talking nonsense!”
Du Fan smiled faintly and said, “Lord Randy, please don’t be in such a hurry… I haven’t finished speaking yet… Although I, Du Fan, can’t pick down the moon in the sky to give to Princess Angel, but… if Your Highness doesn’t mind, I can create a small one for you.”
Randy’s expression froze, and the nobles around him were also stunned; none of them could imagine Du Fan would say such things. Angel was also taken aback, before saying happily after a moment, “Really? Really? Sir Du Fan, can you really do it?” With that expression, Angel became even more stunningly beautiful. Du Fan glanced at Randy, whose face was grim, then stepped back a few paces and performed a noble’s bow, saying calmly, “If Your Highness wishes it, then let me, Du Fan, create a moon for you!” Angel sighed and said, “Okay! But please don’t disappoint me!” Du Fan smiled slightly, glanced around, then looked up at the moon in the sky. After a moment, he clapped his hands, and soon a servant rushed over, carrying a silver basin covered with a silk scarf. After placing the basin in front of Du Fan, the servant quickly retreated. Du Fan glanced at the basin on the ground, then smiled slightly and said, “Your Highness Angel, please…” Angel was slightly puzzled and asked, “Please what?” Du Fan made some gestures above the basin before smiling calmly and saying, “The moon I created for Your Highness is inside this basin… To prevent it from escaping, I ask Your Highness to lift the scarf yourself.” Angel immediately showed a surprised expression. She lifted the hem of her dress and quickly walked over to Du Fan, slowly lifting the scarf. Immediately, she exclaimed, “Really! Sir Du Fan, you really created a moon for me!” Indeed, the basin was filled with clear water, reflecting the moon in the sky as a tiny moon… Du Fan bowed slightly and said, “Then, this moon is my gift to Your Highness… Please accept it with kindness!” The nobles around heard this and couldn’t help but step forward to take a look. A few smarter ones quickly figured out the trick, but they still expressed their admiration. Randy, on the other hand, walked over with a pale face, which grew even grimmer. Finally, he forced a smile at Du Fan and said, “I see… Then I must thank Sir Du Fan today… But in this case, Randy has no face to stay tonight… Sir Du Fan, may the mountains remain unchanged and the waters flow forever. I hope that next time we meet, you won’t disappoint me!”
After saying that, Randy snorted, gave Angel a strange look, then turned and strode away… Du Fan sneered inwardly. Does this guy want to cause me trouble? Hmph… You’re still a bit too inexperienced! Once Randy was far away, Angel seemed to breathe a sigh of relief. She suddenly turned to look at Du Fan, a sly smile on her face: “Well, that annoying guy is finally gone… Brother was right; you do have some skills after all… If not, you wouldn’t be qualified to be my man!”
