Chapter 018: The Day of the Agreement
Along the way, there were countless magical weapons and equipment—likely all the stock accumulated by the Sacred Vatican’s Gavin Diocese over hundreds of years. Du Fan showed no restraint at all; when he encountered a pile of weapons, he would take half of them, and when there were only a few items, he would claim them all. Even things he wasn’t particularly interested in, like bows and spears, he would take as many as he could, ensuring Neo got none of a chance.
Neo seemed to understand Du Fan’s intentions. He merely smiled without saying anything. After Du Fan had taken half of the magical weapons from the last warehouse, Neo said with a smile, “Lord Du Fan… do you need to go back once more to choose more?”
Du Fan sneered inwardly. Most of the good items had already been taken by him, yet Neo didn’t seem bothered at all… It seemed… he even wanted Du Fan to take as many as possible.
Du Fan had a vague suspicion that Anthony’s easy willingness to delegate power wasn’t a good sign. But now that this power was in his hands, he would never give it up.
Without further thought, Du Fan bowed to Neo and bid farewell with Eadlyn.
Back in his own prison hall, Du Fan sat down in front of the altar and said to Eadlyn, “I’m leaving these items in your care. Find a place to organize them properly… In the future, don’t keep them all here. If anyone has a mission, they can go and choose from them… Once the mission is completed, whatever they choose becomes theirs.”
Eadlyn was slightly stunned. For those strong enough, power was important, but a peerless divine artifact could also be highly attractive. After all, Neo never distributed such items to subordinates, yet Du Fan had already prepared to do so after taking half of them.
Du Fan glanced at Eadlyn a few more times before saying, “Your strength is too weak. Choose a few items for your own defense.”
Eadlyn’s breathing became tense. Having accompanied Du Fan in selecting these items, she knew quite well that her storage bracelet contained several rare divine artifacts, along with advanced magical equipment. Choosing a few of them would likely boost her strength by several levels.
As for Du Fan’s act of secretly stuffing some good items into his own storage ring, she chose to ignore it.
Du Fan noticed her expression, suddenly stood up, and gave a light pat on her slightly raised buttocks before saying, “Do the task I assigned you carefully, and you’ll surely reap the benefits… I’ll come back to check on you when I have time, so you’d better take it seriously.” With that, Du Fan’s figure flashed briefly before drifting toward the exit of the Divine Might Prison.
Eadlyn was confused. Although Du Fan had taken advantage of her, she couldn’t feel even a trace of anger. Instead, thinking about how she had gained such power for no reason, she felt utterly bewildered…
…
“Has Du Fan left?” Anthony withdrew his gaze from the statue and spoke indifferently.
A moment later, Neo’s figure slowly appeared in the air. He bowed slightly to Anthony and said, “Yes, my lord…”
Anthony nodded. “He left in such a short time. Did he choose to give up, or has he already taken control smoothly?”
Neo quickly recounted what had happened in the Divine Might Prison before saying calmly, “Although Du Fan is young, he handles things with great skill… He has split the Divine Might Prison into two parts, and it won’t be long before his followers fully pledge loyalty to him.”
Anthony raised his eyebrows slightly, as if hearing something extremely interesting. “You mean, right after taking control of the Divine Might Prison, instead of cooperating with you… he split half of the original forces and tried to divide it in two?”
“Yes,” Neo nodded. “I originally thought he would come to me for help soon… But instead of that, he came to demand things from me… He has already taken half of what the Divine Might Prison has held for centuries. I think it won’t be long before he can take full control of a brand-new Divine Might Prison.”
“Is that so?” Anthony closed his eyes and pondered for a moment before saying, “It doesn’t matter… The Divine Might Prison was originally divided into two parts. As the saying goes, divine grace is boundless, but divine power is like a prison… It was just that no one could take over the other half before… Now that Du Fan has achieved this, it satisfies one of my wishes.”
“My lord is wise,” Neo said. “But…”
“Speak. I won’t blame you…”
Nio glanced at Anthony’s expression before gritting his teeth and saying, “It’s just, my lord… From what I’ve seen of Du Fan, he’s managed to achieve so much in such a short time—definitely not an ordinary person. Moreover, his ambition is too great… That might not be a good thing!”
“Ambition?” Anthony smiled. “Nio, you should know that having ambition is a very good thing… No matter whether it’s your superior or subordinate, if they have a passion, they’re much easier to deal with and control… Since Du Fan has ambition, we’ll give him everything he needs for that ambition, so he can be used for my purposes… Only that fool Fisher would still choose to be wary of such a person at a time like this… I was worried that Du Fan might side with Fisher, but his ambition is perfect… Fisher is the pope’s adopted son and the obvious successor… But with Du Fan’s ambition, would he accept that? So… Nio, there’s no need for you to worry—everything is under control!”
Nio frowned slightly and said, “But…”
“There’s no but…” Anthony smiled. “Even if I die… everything is under God’s watchful eye… Nio, never forget—desire is the root of all original sins…”
Hearing this, Nio’s brows furrowed slightly, but he couldn’t say anything else.
Seeing his expression, Anthony sighed lightly and said, “Besides, the appointed day is approaching soon… Yet we still have so much unfinished business… These are tasks neither of us can complete. Perhaps only Du Fan in this holy church can help me finish them… In that case, not to mention his ambition being too great, I’m even worried it’s not big enough!”
When Nio heard the words “appointed day,” his expression finally returned to calm. He bowed respectfully and said, “Thank you, my lord, for your teachings!”
Then, he bent slightly and prepared to retreat.
“Wait…” Anthony suddenly said.
Nio stopped and looked up at Anthony. “What else, my lord?”
Anthony frowned slightly and said, “Du Fan is so important to us that we can’t afford any harm to him. Remember, put aside all other tasks for now and investigate thoroughly what happened to him today… I want to know exactly what’s going on by tomorrow morning.”
Nio frowned slightly but nodded anyway. “I will do my best…”
Anthony finally showed a slight satisfied smile and said, “Then go back!”
Nio didn’t dare ask anything and simply bent over before retreating quickly.
This time, Anthony slowly regained his composure. Looking at the statue above the chapel behind him, he let out a low sigh and murmured to himself, “The day of the agreement? Hmph… I didn’t expect it to come so soon… The coup seems to be just the beginning… From now on, Roland Continent will likely face many disasters! Have all twenty-one disciples had their seals lifted? Then the next matter… must also be dealt with as soon as possible…”
…
While Anthony and Nio were whispering, Du Fan was already seated in the hall of Duke Green’s mansion, savoring the black tea in his hand.
He had experienced too many things today, and every detail required careful consideration. Otherwise, even the slightest mistake could lead to numerous troubles in the future!
Old Mark hadn’t returned yet, and it was unknown how things went with the task he had gone on. Only a few servants remained in the hall, standing in the corners and quietly waiting for Du Fan’s orders.
Just then, footsteps were heard in the distance, and soon a servant rushed into the hall, approaching Du Fan before bowing deeply and saying, “Third young master! Someone outside the mansion wants to see you. They came alone but claim to be an old acquaintance of yours… We dare not let them in without permission. Please make the decision, young master.”
Du Fan raised his eyebrows slightly and asked, “What’s his name?”
“Evan!”
“Crash—”
Du Fan smashed the teacup in his hand onto the floor. With a cold laugh, he said, “Very good! Very good! He still dares to come see me? Someone! Invite him in politely!”
When saying “politely,” Du Fan couldn’t help but emphasize his tone. The nearby servants exchanged glances before quickly retreating.
