Chapter 009: Such a Great Opportunity
After fighting for another while, neither of them could gain the upper hand.
Both were ninth-level experts who mastered both magic and martial arts, with strong skills in both close and long-range combat. It seemed that if they continued fighting like this, no one would be able to determine a winner even after three days and nights.
But Du Fan could wait, while Laku absolutely could not.
With a snort, he suddenly roared, “Lord Du Fan! Die!!!”
Along with this roar, Laku suddenly pointed both hands sharply in Du Fan’s direction. Immediately, a white light sphere appeared in the void, which then transformed into dense streams of white threads that rushed toward Du Fan like rain.
Du Fan’s expression changed. He could sense the murderous intent behind this attack and dared not confront it head-on. Instead, he quickly used several flight spells and soared into the sky.
Laku’s streams of threads passed almost brushing against Du Fan’s feet. Though silent, their terrifying killing intent remained undiminished. Anything touched by these white threads was instantly reduced to powder.
Although Du Fan avoided the attack, he was drenched in cold sweat. If he hadn’t reacted quickly, he might not have had a chance to survive it.
However, after using this attack, Laku seemed to have suffered significant damage. He stood still, his chest rising and falling slightly.
Du Fan suddenly sneered. He brought together his right index and middle fingers and pointed at Laku. Immediately, a massive arc of light slashed downward following his gesture.
At this point, Laku had already used too much combat energy and was somewhat weakened. Under normal circumstances, he could have easily countered Du Fan’s attack, or at least found hundreds of ways to defend against it. But Du Fan’s attack came so fast that it left no time for Laku to react.
Unable to gather his strength quickly, Laku could only wave his right hand, causing the “War Puppet” to fly right in front of him…
With a loud “boom,” Du Fan’s attack struck the “War Puppet” hard. Lights flashed continuously, and several cracks appeared on its body, with white vapor seeping out.
Seeing this, Laku was shocked. After all, the durability of the “War Puppet” was comparable to that of certain sacred artifacts. But now…
At this moment, he could only grit his teeth. It wasn’t easy to forge this “War Puppet”; if it were destroyed, he didn’t know when he would be able to forge another one. Under no circumstances could he let Du Fan destroy it now.
Laku no longer cared about his injuries and immediately channeled all his combat energy and magic power to block Du Fan’s attack.
By this time, Du Fan had already flashed in front of Laku. He pointed with his right hand, his index finger resting on the forehead of the “War Puppet,” while his combat energy and magic power continued to flow endlessly.
Both of them were using all their strength, and for a while, they remained locked in a stalemate, their bodies trembling slightly.
Suddenly, Du Fan sneered. With a slight motion of his left hand, the Holy Radiance Staff appeared in his grasp. Then, he saw him raise the staff and point it at the “War Puppet”…
With a “boom,” a surge of intense combat energy erupted. The combat energy stored in the rainbow stone poured out like a tide. Laku’s strength was originally on par with Du Fan’s, but now, with this additional stored energy, Du Fan became several times stronger. Laku’s combat energy and magic power were forced back into his body, leaving him with a bitter taste in his mouth. With a “wah,” he spat out a mouthful of blood…
Laku felt severe pain in his chest and let out a groan before finally releasing his hands. The white threads at his fingertips snapped at the same time, and he staggered backward.
Du Fan snorted coldly. He saw the combat energy at his fingertips flicker, and with another “boom,” the “War Puppet” turned to dust. Seizing the opportunity, Du Fan struck Laku’s chest with a palm, leveraging the force of his previous attack.
With another loud “boom,” Du Fan’s palm carried some of the combat energy from the rainbow stone. A faint white light, tinged with golden hues, struck Laku’s chest with force.
Although Laku had combat energy to protect him, he still couldn’t withstand it. Amidst screams, he was flung backward. When he landed, his chest had collapsed, and several ribs were broken.
Laku could only gasp for air, with blood continuously flowing from his wounds. It took him a long time to stand up, and his body was still unsteady.
After fighting for so long, both of them were somewhat injured, though it didn’t hinder their movements. But Du Fan’s powerful strike dealt Laku a severe blow. If it weren’t for Laku’s own strong strength, he would have suffered far more than just broken ribs.
But even so, he was covered in blood and in no good condition at all. Du Fan also had some injuries, yet that didn’t affect his movements. Watching Laku struggle to get up, he sneered, “The King of the Night? That’s all there is to it! Lord Laku, are you planning to surrender now? Or shall I keep fighting until you can’t even beg for your life?” Laku seemed unable to stand steadily. He usually succeeded with just one move when fighting others and rarely prolonged battles like this. Added to that, his painstakingly crafted “War Puppet” had been destroyed by Du Fan, so his anger was imaginable. He coughed violently several times; the broken ribs in his chest had damaged his lungs, and blood immediately spilled from his mouth. Gasping for breath, he said in a deep voice, “Lord Du Fan, you’re truly skilled! But why don’t you strike again? Come on! I want to see if you really can take my life!” Du Fan frowned slightly. This was the first time he had encountered such an opponent—someone who was already so injured yet still so defiant. If he were just a mere assassin, a single word spell from him would have settled everything… But he was skilled in both magic and martial arts—such a person wasn’t easy to deal with. His word spells probably wouldn’t work on him at all. After thinking it over, if he wanted to kill him, he would likely have to pay a heavy price, and even with Old Mark’s help, capturing him alive wouldn’t be easy. Seeing Du Fan’s expression, Laku suddenly smirked coldly and said, “What? Too scared to act?” Du Fan grunted but didn’t respond. “If you don’t strike, I won’t be polite!” A murderous intent flashed in Laku’s eyes, along with a hint of pride. Seeing Laku’s expression, Du Fan immediately sensed trouble. Sure enough, around where Du Fan stood, countless white threads suddenly shot up from the ground! Though these white threads were no longer under Laku’s direct control, they were clearly still under his influence. He forcefully clamped his hands together and shouted, “Die!” The white threads rushed toward Du Fan at once, seemingly about to cut him into pieces… Over there, Old Mark had already let out a cry of alarm, but it was too late for him to come to rescue Du Fan.
Du Fan’s expression changed drastically, but he managed to stay calm. Suddenly, he let out a loud shout, and a faint golden combat energy flared up all over his body. Immediately, a faint golden light enveloped Du Fan, followed by a sound that made one’s hair stand on end… Eventually, the roaring sound gradually faded, and everything around returned to peace. Du Fan stepped out of the dust, his expression calm on the surface, but his heart was filled with fear. If it weren’t for him unleashing all the combat energy and magic stored in the rainbow stone, he might have died mysteriously this time. Looking at Laku, he had taken advantage of this moment to run off somewhere unknown. Du Fan glanced around, let out a groan, and muttered, “This Laku does have some skills… Hmph… But I don’t believe you can escape this capital with such injuries!” Du Fan had figured out what had happened earlier… Most likely, those dense threads had fallen to the ground, and Laku hadn’t controlled them until the last moment to escape, clearly having planned this all along. He had prepared a backup plan the moment he realized he couldn’t kill Du Fan himself… Truly worthy of being called the “King of the Night” — such orderly tactics were rare… Yet, even so, with such severe injuries, Du Fan didn’t believe he could go far. Over there, Old Mark finally breathed a sigh of relief when he saw Du Fan emerge unharmed. He rushed over quickly and said, “Young master, could you please warn me before fighting someone in the future? You know I have a weak heart. Watching you fight to the death almost stopped my heartbeat.” Du Fan smiled slightly and said, “Grandpa Mark… I’ll be more careful from now on… But right now, I have something for you to do…” “What is it?” Du Fan sneered and said coldly, “You tried to ambush me, Du Fan, and still expect to leave unscathed? How could there be such a good deal in the world?”
