Chapter 013: Frenzied Battle (Part 1)
Seeing waves of sword energy intersecting and forming a massive net right in front of him, Du Fan, though skilled in martial arts, knew full well that at such close range, unless the combat energy stored in the Holy Radiance Staff was still available, his own skills would be utterly insufficient to withstand it.
Under such circumstances, Oscar would definitely not show mercy. If he couldn’t block that sword strike, his life would end right there!
Hmph! How could someone like Du Fan, who could even force the Silver Sheath Sword Saint Francis to retreat, die so foolishly in such a situation? No one would believe it if they heard about it!
Thinking of this, Du Fan sighed inwardly. He raised both hands simultaneously, and two magic scrolls were thrown out, exploding between the two of them with a loud boom.
Oscar swung his sword a few times, confident that with that move, Du Fan was doomed. But when he suddenly saw Du Fan throw out the magic scrolls, he became puzzled. At such close range, even if Du Fan’s magic blocked his sword energy, the exploding magic would still harm him!
Oscar’s gaze shifted several times, but he hadn’t made up his mind yet when the two magic spells exploded.
The first one was an ice sealing magic scroll, while the second was a wind blade spell…
Soon, a wave of icy cold, driven by the wind blades, blew toward Oscar. Quickly, a thick ice wall formed in the air. When Oscar’s sword energy struck it, a “whoosh” sound was heard, and the ice wall was effortlessly cut through. Yet, by the time the sword energy reached Du Fan, it had lost much of its destructive power.
Du Fan casually waved his Holy Radiance Staff, and streams of combat energy surged out, instantly breaking through the already weakened net of sword energy.
The move passed in an instant, leaving both sides deeply shocked.
Oscar stepped back several times before smiling faintly from a distance. “I forgot—when you fight, you really like to use this… But I wonder, how many more magic scrolls do you have?”
Du Fan shook his head without saying much. With a simple flick of his hand, he picked up a few more magic scrolls between his fingers.
Seeing this, Oscar shook his head slightly and said with a bitter smile, “It seems Lord Du Fan isn’t planning to speak anymore. But… it doesn’t matter… Lord Du Fan… I hope you can be this precise every time you act!” As he spoke, Oscar’s sword tip trembled, and soon a fierce surge of combat energy ignited, enveloping his entire body in an instant. Then he sighed softly and said, “Lord Du Fan… I’m sorry!” With the sword swinging, accompanied by a faint sound of cutting through the air, Oscar charged forward with his sword, ignoring Du Fan’s magic scrolls and aiming to take Du Fan’s life with a single strike. At this moment, Du Fan realized that given Oscar’s strength, if he used all his combat energy for protection, even if he cast several magic scrolls, it would likely not hurt Oscar much. If the distance between them were greater, it wouldn’t be a problem—since one spell couldn’t harm him, he could simply cast more spells. But now the distance was so close, and there was no way to retreat behind Du Fan’s platform. Whether he controlled his magic well or not, he might hurt himself before even harming his enemy… Presumably, Oscar also saw through this, which was why he dared to be so reckless. With the sword tip already in front of him, there was no time to hesitate… Du Fan grunted, and his immense mental power wrapped around Oscar’s sword tip like threads. It was uncertain whether this move would work; if it did, Du Fan would have many more tactics at his disposal. But if it failed, his life would likely be lost right there. As he released almost all his mental power, his mind went blank, and stars began to flicker before his eyes. Yet, just then, Oscar’s sword stopped less than half a meter from Du Fan’s chest. Oscar felt as though his once-powerful sword strike had sunk into mud—not only was its momentum halted, but it seemed his entire combat energy and killing intent were trapped and unusable. It was an extremely uncomfortable feeling… He grunted and tried to pull back his sword, but the blade suddenly trembled, as if thousands of ropes had wrapped around it at once.
Oscar was shocked, but as someone experienced, he immediately realized that Du Fan had used his mental strength to block his attack. He then exerted all his fighting energy—his strength was after all considerable—and saw that under the surge of energy, the restraint on his long sword was lifted.
But Du Fan had anticipated that his mental strength couldn’t hold up for long, so Oscar was only delayed by a moment. By then, Du Fan had already floated upward. When his mental strength was completely overwhelmed by the energy, although his body trembled, he still threw the few magic scrolls he was holding at Oscar.
“Careless!”
Oscar snorted, lifting his long sword slightly. Before Du Fan could activate the scrolls, he deflected them aside. Then, with a quick motion, he sent a blade of energy from his sword, coiling around Du Fan like a venomous snake.
Oscar’s move was extremely clever. Given Du Fan’s current situation, he was likely unable to dodge it and would have to accept his fate.
Yet Du Fan, floating in midair, showed no sign of fear. Instead, a strange smile appeared on his face. With a casual flick of his hand, a magic shield appeared in front of him. When the blade of energy struck, the shield trembled slightly but managed to block it.
Seeing his attack blocked, Oscar lifted his sword again, ready to unleash another blade of energy. He thought that with just a little more effort, he could kill Du Fan with his sword. But at that moment, seeing Du Fan’s smile, Oscar felt a surge of anxiety and became more cautious.
After all, he knew Du Fan well enough to understand that, given his personality, Du Fan was by no means an easy opponent. With such an expression, he must have prepared some countermeasure.
As he pondered, Oscar suddenly felt a chill down his back. His body trembled violently, as if he were suddenly in an ice cellar, with countless arms seemingly grabbing at him. Under this assault, half of his body went numb, and a surge of magic energy rushed into his body. His vision blurred, his head grew heavy, and he almost collapsed to the ground.
Oscar was filled with extreme terror. He realized that he had unknowingly fallen victim to Du Fan’s magic—most likely some vicious spell like a dizziness spell or curse. Yet, ever since he started fighting, he had held the upper hand. He couldn’t understand how he had somehow fallen for Du Fan’s trick without realizing it.
Could this be the legendary divine magic? If so, he was definitely no match at all!
At this thought, even Oscar, who was usually so resolute, began to panic.
But he was still a master. Though confused, he understood that he absolutely couldn’t surrender now—otherwise, all his efforts would be in vain. Without hesitation, despite the dizziness in his head, he swung his sword, and a dense stream of sword energy immediately protected him.
Du Fan watched from above. He had planned to strike while chaos reigned, but seeing Oscar suddenly unleash a wave of sword energy, he was forced to back away.
Earlier, while using his mental power to block Oscar’s sword strike, he had thrown the dizziness spell scroll on the ground and infused it with a bit of his own mental energy. Then, throwing his last spell scroll from above was purely to distract Oscar, allowing him to activate the dizziness spell scroll afterward.
Fortunately, dizziness spells were usually silent, and so were the spell scrolls. Otherwise, with Oscar’s strength, how could Du Fan have ambushed him?
Watching Oscar’s actions, Du Fan realized that once the effect of the dizziness spell wore off, it would be difficult to attack him. Without further delay, he quickly recited a series of magic incantations, drawing out the last bit of his magic energy, then pointed it toward the ground of the training field.
Suddenly, several magic circles appeared on the ground. Amidst flickering lights, several earth element giants were summoned.
This was a summoning spell recorded in the texts given by Anthony. Du Fan had practiced it a few times before and used it skillfully this time… But after using this spell, all his magic energy was exhausted, and his spell scrolls were also used up. In other words, if those earth element giants couldn’t deal with Oscar, he would be left floating in the air, waiting to die!
