Chapter 009: The Magician’s Battle (2)
Abraham’s figure floated out of the grand hall. When he reached the entrance, he raised his hands slightly, and the two tightly closed doors were pushed open. Then, in a flash, he was gone.
Barbari and Brisbane exchanged a glance, waved their wands at the same time, and a strong magical aura surged forth. Immediately after, they too rushed toward the entrance.
In such a situation, both sides understood that if a battle really broke out inside the hall, the nobles there would likely die from the chaos before it could even be decided who would become the emperor. If that happened… the entire empire would fall into chaos!
Neither side wanted that, so fighting on the training ground became an unspoken agreement.
The crown prince seemed to have anticipated this as well. After seeing the three magicians leave, he smiled coldly in the direction of the throne and said, “My respected father… it seems we should all go outside to see… to see whether your most beloved youngest son is stronger or I am.”
With that, the crown prince turned and strode toward the entrance of the hall.
The dozen or so military generals following him followed without hesitation. Among the nobles, those loyal to the crown prince hesitated for a moment before joining them. As for the nobles loyal to Prince Fisher, they were in an awkward situation—neither wanting to go nor stay.
Seeing this, Prince Fisher smiled slightly and said, “You should go too… A battle between great magicians is a rare sight!”
With that, he turned and bowed slightly to Austin III, saying, “Father, I believe you will surely want to witness this rare battle firsthand! Please, come.”
Austin III nodded, stood up, and, with the help of two maids, slowly walked toward the entrance of the hall. Meanwhile, he glanced around and said calmly, “Let’s all go outside and take a look…”
Soon, everyone in the hall was outside.
Austin III sat on a raised platform in the training ground. The inner court members and court magicians surrounded the area for protection. Most of the nobles and officials loyal to Prince Fisher also stood there.
The Imperial City Guard still surrounded them completely. Of course, the nobles loyal to the Crown Prince were under the protection of the Imperial City Guard at this moment, while those high-ranking nobles also stood in the area, though their faces showed no signs of panic—instead, they watched the vast training ground carefully.
The situation was almost identical to that in the grand hall earlier; the Crown Prince still held an absolute advantage… Meanwhile, Prince Fischer wore an enigmatic expression. He appeared calm, but no one could read his thoughts.
The Crown Prince, on the other hand, stood at the edge of the training ground under the protection of a group of military generals, watching from afar…
Du Fan also hid among the crowd, observing closely. Fortunately, despite his special status, with so many uncertainties today, his role as a minor court guard meant few would pay much attention to him.
At this moment, the battle among the three high-level magicians in the training ground had reached a critical point.
Two extremely powerful magicians were teaming up to take on the legendary figure who could almost rival the current head of the Mage Guild—Master Abraham, the foremost court magician…
Anyone with even a basic understanding knew how terrifying battles between magicians could be.
So, although the sides of Prince Fischer and the Crown Prince were utterly opposed, they shared one thing: they both tried to stay at the edge of the training ground to avoid being affected by the battle between the high-level magicians.
The resin burning on the twelve large pillars in the training ground illuminated the entire area like daylight, while occasional lightning flashes in the clouds added a solemn tone to the atmosphere.
All three magicians had gently floated to their positions, facing each other across the divide.
Abraham raised his hands, his rings flashing with various colors, casting shifting light on his handsome face…
As his hands made light contact again, a crisp “ding” sound was heard.
Unlike the members of the Mage Guild, court mages exist to protect the safety of the royal family. Thus, before taking action, he first cast a protective magic circle. As he did so, three golden lights floated from his palm. When they reached Austin III and the others, the three lights spread out in all directions, creating a faint golden glow that enveloped them.
Barbari and Brisbane stayed out of the way. Only after Abraham finished casting his spell did Barbari gently wave his magic wand and quickly recite a series of rapid magic incantations.
Soon, a mist-like aura emanated from Barbari’s exquisite wand, quickly enveloping the entire group of the crown prince’s followers. Clearly, this mist-like substance also had some protective effects.
Meanwhile, Abraham wisely did not interrupt Barbari and simply watched quietly. After Barbari finished, he raised his eyebrows and said, “Since everything is ready… then let’s begin, shall we?”
Before Barbari could speak, Brisbane sneered and said, “Very good. I’ve been waiting for this opportunity for a long time!!!”
With that, the great mage swung his wand slightly and pointed it toward Abraham.
Immediately, several black auras surged out from the top of his wand, forming a small tornado that rushed toward Abraham.
This was pure magic. Clearly, although Master Brisbane was bold in words, he didn’t dare to underestimate Master Abraham. His first move was merely a probe.
Yet Abraham seemed unaffected by this attack. He sneered and said, “If you want to fight, then fight. What’s the point of probing me like this? Is that all you can do?”
With that, Abraham stretched out his hands and snapped them together lightly, producing another soft “ding” sound.
Instantly, the swirling black aura seemed to lose control and vanished without a trace with that crisp sound.
Brisbane’s expression changed, and he couldn’t help but take a breath. “Court magic… it really has its merits!”
Abraham snorted and said, “Well, since it was your turn just now, it’s my turn now, right?”
The head of these court magicians was indeed different from ordinary magicians. As soon as he finished speaking, without any extra movements, he simply waved his hands slightly and pointed in the direction of Brisbane and Barbari. Instantly, several colorful light arcs rushed toward them.
These light arcs were like lightning, reaching Barbari and Brisbane in an instant. Barbari seemed to frown slightly and said indifferently, “Weakening spell? Truly impressive!” With that, his figure shot backward abruptly, and his wand pointed in various directions in a strange manner. Soon, the air began to twist, and countless firebirds the size of palms appeared, forming something resembling a magic circle that circled around him.
As soon as Abraham’s colorful light arcs got a little closer, several firebirds pounced on them. With loud explosions, both sides turned into pure magic energy and exploded.
On Brisbane’s side, upon seeing the multicolored light arcs, he smirked sarcastically. Without flinching, he gently tapped his wand on the ground, and immediately a huge black magic circle appeared centered around him. Surrounded by black lightning and dark energy, several boneless arms stretched out from the magic circle, blocking the colorful light arcs. The bones were instantly reduced to powder, weakening the light arcs somewhat.
Yet still, more and more bones emerged from the magic circle. Though extremely fragile, they seemed endless. Despite the immense power of those colorful light arcs, they couldn’t reach Brisbane before being reduced to nothingness by the obstruction of these bones.
Although Barbari and Brisbane used completely different methods to defend against Abraham’s attacks, just one move from each of them revealed their exceptional magical skills—skills that could only be achieved after decades of practice.
Although the two sides only made a slight contact and everything happened in the blink of an eye, with Du Fan’s mental strength, he could see every detail clearly. His control over magic was not very precise to begin with, but now, after observing this, many problems he had previously struggled to understand suddenly became clear to him. While others saw the magicians fighting and felt fear, Du Fan watched and learned secretly, even wishing their fight would go on forever.
