Chapter 007: Temporary Farewell
Seeing the Crown Prince leave, the expressions on everyone’s faces relaxed slightly. Even calm as he was, Anthony’s grip on his magic wand loosened a bit.
After a while, Anthony glanced at Du Fan and then at Prince Fischer, saying calmly, “Go ahead. What exactly happened today?”
Du Fan was slightly stunned. He looked at Prince Fischer, and upon seeing him nod, he briefly recounted what had happened that day.
After hearing Du Fan’s account, Anthony nodded slightly and said, “Du Fan, you did very well today. I’ll record this merit for now and repay it to you later. As for now…” At this point, Anthony glanced at Abraham and continued, “Prince Fischer’s safety is left in Master Abraham’s care, right?”
Abraham, with a cold expression, nodded slightly and said, “Of course!”
As they were talking, a group of cavalry was approaching from afar. Upon closer inspection, it was the Temple Knights of the Holy Church.
The leader of the group was Joshua.
Seeing the situation, Joshua noticed that about a hundred members of the royal family were protecting Du Fan and Prince Fischer in the middle, while Anthony and several cardinals stood to the side. He then made a gesture to stop, signaling the Temple Knights behind him to halt. After that, he rode forward and called out from afar, “Lord Anthony, the Temple Knights have come at your call!”
Seeing the Temple Knights arrive, Anthony smiled slightly but said to Abraham, “Since the Temple Knights are here, let them escort them for a while. Even the bravest wouldn’t dare attack them.”
Abraham’s eyes flickered as if he wanted to say something, but Prince Fischer stepped forward, bowed, and said, “Lord Anthony, then I must insist on accompanying them!”
Anthony laughed heartily and said, “Very good. That’s exactly what should be done. Well, Your Highness, Master, and Du Fan, I’ll be leaving now…”
With that, the archcardinal folded his arms slightly and disappeared into thin air. The cardinals behind him also nodded briefly before vanishing as well.
Joshua, of course, heard Anthony’s words. He dismounted from his horse and approached Prince Fischer, saying calmly, “Then, Your Highness Fischer, please go ahead.”
Prince Fischer shook his head slightly and said, “There’s no rush. There are other matters to attend to…”
With that, Prince Fischer glanced at Abraham beside him and said, “Master Abraham, could you please send people to look around? If our men are still alive, we must find them no matter what. Even if they’re dead… we need to collect their bodies. As for my elder brother’s men…” At this point, Prince Fischer sneered and said, “I don’t need to tell you what to do.” Abraham seemed to want to say more, but in the end he nodded and said, “Yes, my respected prince.” After that, Abraham waved his hand lightly, and dozens of palace guards rushed into the jungle. Seeing this, Prince Fischer chuckled softly before walking over to Du Fan with an apologetic expression. “Lord Du Fan, I originally planned to invite you for dinner today, but unfortunately, the banquet didn’t happen as planned, and you ended up facing such a situation. I, Prince Fischer, truly deserve blame.” Du Fan smiled bitterly inwardly but still bowed and said, “I dare not… It’s already great that Prince Fischer has managed to escape unharmed.” Prince Fischer nodded in gratitude and gave Du Fan a deep look before speaking in a voice only Du Fan could hear, “Du Fan, my elder brother is narrow-minded and arrogant. What happened today was entirely due to us. If I’m not wrong, he will definitely come after you… By then, you can send someone to the palace to inform me. No matter where it is, I will arrive as soon as possible.” Du Fan was slightly surprised, not expecting Prince Fischer to say such things. He nodded slightly and said, “Then I, Du Fan, shall obey your command.” Prince Fischer laughed heartily and said, “That’s good! That’s good! By the way, Lord Du Fan, since you were able to escape unharmed under Ampere’s attack, it shows your extraordinary strength… It’s no wonder someone like Ordas fell into your hands… It’s already getting late, and I’m sure the ducal household is very worried. How about we arrange another time to meet? For today, let Lord Joshua escort you back.” Du Fan frowned and said, “Isn’t that a bit improper?”
Prince Fischer snorted and then whispered, “With Master Abraham by my side, even if my elder brother sends a few more men, they’re no match for me… I’m more worried about your safety. It’s better to let Lord Joshua send you back now, before my elder brother reacts. Once you reach the Duke’s residence, I believe that with the reputation of Duke Green, even if my elder brother has hundreds of imperial guards, he won’t dare touch you.”
Du Fan pondered for a moment. Seeing the determined look in Prince Fischer’s eyes, he knew he couldn’t refuse and simply nodded, saying, “Then I, Du Fan, shall obey respectfully.”
Prince Fischer nodded and said, “That’s best. By the way, there’s one more thing… The Sacred Radiance Staff that my elder brother ‘gave’ you is truly an excellent item. But since it’s in your hands now, it belongs to you. Just be careful—many people are coveting such a divine artifact. From now on, always have people with you when you go out.”
Du Fan smiled slightly and said, “Thank you for your concern, Your Highness Fischer. Then I’ll take my leave.”
Prince Fischer smiled warmly and said, “Then… go ahead.”
“And one more thing,” Prince Fischer added, glancing at Joshua. “Lord Joshua, I’m entrusting Lord Du Fan’s safety to you.”
Prince Fischer and Du Fan spoke loudly enough for Joshua to hear. He frowned but still bowed and said, “Since Your Highness Fischer has made this arrangement, I, Joshua, can’t insist… Lord Du Fan, please go ahead.”
With that, Joshua waved his hand, and a Templar knight brought a horse over to Du Fan.
Du Fan mounted the horse, bowed to Prince Fischer once more, and then followed the Templar knights back toward the capital.
As Du Fan and his group disappeared into the night, Prince Fischer’s expression gradually turned cold. After a while, he said indifferently, “Master Abraham, what do you think of this Du Fan?”
Abraham pondered for a moment before saying, “His strength is average. Although he seems quite capable for his age, he doesn’t hold much value in terms of gaining allies… However, I sense something strange about him that I can’t quite figure out. I guess the magic and combat manuals he practices are also peculiar, but they’re not the Star Combat Energy of the Green family…”
Prince Fischer frowned and asked, “So, Master Abraham, what do you mean…”
Abraham shook his head and said, “I never fought him, nor did I see him fight. Even I can’t know too much about him. In any case, this Du Fan is definitely not someone to be underestimated… Prince Fischer, the situation in the capital is unclear at the moment. Although such a person might be worth gaining allegiance from, we must never reveal too many of our secrets.”
Prince Fischer smiled slightly and said, “I understand that… In that situation, Du Fan still didn’t abandon me. Either he’s an utter fool or an absolute genius… But anyway, this incident has connected us with the Green family… Why not host this young Master Du Fan for a few more meals? I’m curious to see how my dear elder brother will react once he finds out about this…”
Upon hearing Prince Fischer mention the elder prince, Abraham seemed to suddenly lose his voice and said nothing.
Prince Fischer, knowing his personality, wasn’t bothered. He merely frowned and looked up at the sky, deep in thought.
They stood like that for a while until the men sent out returned. Most of them were empty-handed, with only a few carrying corpses. Alva had also been found, but his injuries were so severe that his body was wrapped like a mummy. It seemed unlikely he would recover in a short time without the help of a Holy Church light mage.
One of the men stepped forward and said solemnly, “Your Highness, aside from Lord Alva, all the others are dead. A few even have no bodies left… As for the enemy, anyone still breathing was finished off with a final strike.”
“Is that so?” Prince Fischer nodded and glanced at the blood-soaked Alva before continuing, “Leave Alva here. Have people guard him from all sides. Anyone who dares approach must be killed without hesitation. Master Abraham and I have matters to discuss…”
The man nodded and waved his hand. Immediately, someone carried Alva before Prince Fischer and laid him on the ground. The court mages and palace guards stepped back, staying at a distance, leaving only Prince Fischer and the gloomy-faced Abraham in the area.
