Chapter 019: Boldness
Du Fan walked slowly through the forest with a frown. Though he had determined the direction, he didn’t want to head there directly. After all, two beings of the Saint class were fighting there—wouldn’t going there be suicide?
Only after leaving that deadly place did he realize his entire body was drenched in cold sweat. It was the first time in his long career that he had faced a mage alone. If he had been slightly careless or unlucky, he would likely have died beyond redemption.
As expected, strength was the most important thing at all times.
If given the chance, he would definitely train harder again. He just wondered if he would still have the time.
At the same time, Du Fan reminded himself silently that no matter what situation or enemy he encountered in the future, he must be extremely cautious!
There was still a trace of murderous intent in the air. The Bone Dragon had disappeared after Ampere left, leaving only a pervasive aura of death. Du Fan casually cast a few Holy Light spells to purify the remaining death aura, only to find that they were almost useless in this situation.
The death aura continued to spread throughout the forest. Although it didn’t approach Du Fan, the plants and trees that happened to be nearby withered instantly under its influence.
Seeing this, Du Fan’s mind stirred. He suddenly remembered that he had bought a dark magic crystal ball some time ago, and Anthony’s books also contained several dark magic spells…
With this thought, Du Fan quickly tapped his storage ring and took out the crystal ball, holding it in his hand.
Yet before he could do anything, the death aura, which had been spreading everywhere, seemed to be guided by some force and rushed violently toward him. In less than a moment, his surroundings were filled with black death aura.
But Du Fan still emitted a faint holy light, preventing the death aura from approaching. It grew denser, with occasional sounds resembling screams.
Confused, Du Fan wondered—did the death aura even have self-awareness?
He pondered for a moment, recalling the method he had learned earlier of using a magic ball to absorb magical elements. He quickly recited a few spells and threw the dark magic crystal ball he was holding. Soon, the dense aura of death rushed into the ball as if it had found its destination. In less than a moment, everything was clean again, and the air around him became fresh once more.
Du Fan was puzzled. Dark magic was indeed strange. These auras of death were left behind by creatures like bone dragons and undead cavalry such as blood skeletons. The amount of magic power contained within them was enormous, but how could it all be sucked into the magic crystal ball in just a moment?
Thinking of this, he waved his hand casually, and the magic crystal ball flew back into his palm. After taking a few glances at it, he frowned slightly. The originally black crystal ball seemed even darker now, with a mass of ink-like magical energy swirling inside. Du Fan tried to use his mental power to control it, but to no avail. Although his mental power could penetrate the crystal ball, he couldn’t control that magical energy at all.
“Better give up. Your abilities aren’t enough to control these auras of death…” A soft voice suddenly sounded in his ear.
Du Fan was slightly startled. He turned around and asked, “How did you get here?”
It was Chenchen.
Chenchen nodded slightly, then frowned as she looked around. “Did you fight with someone just now?”
Du Fan nodded. “With a high-level mage, I guess. Those auras of death were left by the undead creatures he summoned.”
Chenchen gave Du Fan a strange look and said, “If the summoned undead creatures produce such an amount of death aura, that mage must be at least an eighth-level high mage. You’re no match for him… But it seems like you’ve gained a significant advantage now.”
Du Fan snorted. “Getting my life isn’t that easy… But there’s nothing more to say about it. As for you, how did you suddenly appear here?”
Chenchen turned around and glanced around several times, then closed her eyes to check for a while before whispering, “It’s good that you’re fine. I won’t ask what exactly happened… I came here because I sensed two Saint-level auras colliding, so I couldn’t help but come and take a look… But I sensed your aura along the way, so I came over first.”
Du Fan smiled and said, “It seems you still care about me after all…”
Chenchen rolled her eyes, but with her stunning beauty, even the gesture of rolling her eyes was incredibly charming.
She frowned again and said, “Du Fan, my little master… It’s extremely strange to have two Saint-level beings in a place like the Imperial Capital. But why aren’t you worried at all?”
Du Fan sighed and said, “Who said I’m not worried? I’m going there now, right? I was worried about getting involved if I went rashly, but I think it should be fine with you here, right?”
With that, Du Fan gave Chenchen a half-smiling look.
Chenchen shook her head and thought for a moment before saying, “It might not be appropriate for me to go with you… Although most of those old monsters in the Imperial Capital already know there’s a Saint-level expert behind you, it might not be good if they found out it’s me.”
Du Fan nodded and said, “That’s true… But we can’t not go either…”
At that point, his gaze swept over Chenchen and he said, “How about we stick to the old rule?”
Chenchen giggled and asked, “What old rule?”
Suddenly, Du Fan stepped forward and wrapped his arms around her waist, saying, “Isn’t this it?”
“What old rule is this?” Chenchen glanced at Du Fan. “Du Fan, are you getting bolder and bolder? Don’t tell me you really think you’re my little master and can do whatever you want?”
Du Fan snorted and said, “Is this also considered boldness? You’d better transform into a cat quickly!”
Chenchen’s face suddenly turned slightly red. She seemed to steal a glance at Du Fan before whispering, “Little master… Don’t think I don’t know what you did to Ringtone that night… You did that right there. Don’t you know my hearing is very sharp? I can detect even the slightest movement, let alone…”
At that point, Chenchen suddenly leaned close to Du Fan’s ear and gently blew on him.
Chenchen was already tall, so it wasn’t difficult for her to get close to Du Fan’s ear.
Du Fan took the opportunity to boldly touch her waist today, feeling quite proud of himself. But when Chen Chen blew at him like that, his knees went weak and he almost fell. As for what Chen Chen meant… Even though Du Fan was extremely bold, hearing her words still made his face turn red. He said, “If I’m bold, then let me be bold… There are many things that can’t be obtained without a bit of courage.”
At that point, Du Fan stopped and stared at Chen Chen intently. Chen Chen was indeed stunningly beautiful, but under Du Fan’s gaze, her cheeks still turned red. Seeing his half-smiling expression, her face seemed to flush even more. After a moment, she took a breath and said in a soft voice, “Alright, let’s hurry up. We don’t know how many experts are around right now. If someone finds us… it won’t end well… Let’s go!”
Du Fan sighed and said, “Then move faster…” As he spoke, his hand slipped downward, intentionally or not. Chen Chen seemed to sense something. She moved suddenly, and in an instant, Du Fan saw a flash of light—Chen Chen had transformed into a cute little cat. Du Fan sighed slightly, picked her up, tucked her into his robe, and then gathered the clothes from the ground to put them in his storage ring. He said, “Hmph… Let’s go… I hope Prince Fischer doesn’t die so soon, otherwise all my efforts will be in vain!”
Chen Chen’s cute cat head poked out from Du Fan’s robe and asked, “What Prince Fischer?” As they walked, Du Fan briefly recounted what had happened these past few days before saying, “Anyway, in the eyes of that crown prince, I’m probably already considered one of Prince Fischer’s men. I just don’t know what Father thinks… I hope this kind of situation doesn’t happen again tonight.”
Chen Chen closed her eyes and sensed for a while before saying, “That Prince Fischer you mentioned isn’t dead yet. And I sensed several auras around him… It’s bad…” At that moment, she quickly retracted her head. Du Fan felt a chill in his heart and became even more cautious. Pretending not to notice anything, he rushed forward quickly.
In less than a moment, Du Fan felt several mental forces sweep over him. After seemingly recognizing him, they quickly withdrew. Du Fan frowned, stopped in his tracks, looked around, and then shouted, “Who’s there!”
