Chapter 012: The Enforcement Team

But as soon as this idea came to mind, Du Fan dismissed it himself. After all, although he claimed to master both magic and combat skills, magic and combat energy could no longer exist independently—his unique cultivation methods made it inevitable. Moreover, from his earlier feelings, it seemed that these enforcement teams suppressed magicians through mental strength; the stronger his mental power, the harder it was to conceal it, making him more vulnerable to their control. Under such circumstances, he would likely be unable to use either magic or combat energy, leaving him defenseless. As for ordinary warriors, they probably wouldn’t stand a chance against these enforcement teams either. Warriors were already at a disadvantage compared to magicians, so even without much mental pressure, they would still be no match. How could ordinary warriors possibly defeat the enforcement teams?
Templar knights blessed by holy light, on the other hand, might not feel such pressure and might actually be able to deal with the enforcement teams—after all, the principle that one thing can counter another is an absolute truth in this world. The more Du Fan thought about it, the more he believed this to be the case. If Templar knights of the Holy Church couldn’t suppress such enforcement teams, given the relationship between the Mage Guild and the Holy Church, would they treat them so politely? Likely, they would have already created numerous enforcement teams, leading to chaos between the two sides.
Seeing Du Fan’s increasingly uneasy expression, Kristy hurriedly said, “But Master Du Fan, as long as you don’t provoke these monsters, they won’t bother you. After all, you’re not from the Mage Guild, so they’re not afraid of you. These monsters follow a rule: they will never attack outsiders unless it’s a matter of survival for the Mage Guild.”
Du Fan nodded and said, “I see. In that case, I’m relieved.”
Yet despite his words, Du Fan couldn’t help but sneer inwardly. Never attack outsiders? Unlikely. Such nonsense wasn’t even believable even to Kristy herself. Du Fan had no doubts—had Kristy not stopped them in time, they would likely have attacked already. Moreover, if thought further, Kristy had deliberately waited a moment before stopping them instead of intervening right away. Could it be that she wanted to use these enforcement teams as a warning to him?

He had given himself so many perks before, yet now he’s just giving a warning—this is nothing but giving a sweet date after a blow! Of course, Du Fan would never say such things, nor would he show such expressions. Kristi wasn’t sure if she had seen through Du Fan’s thoughts, but seeing his reaction, she felt somewhat relieved. Anyway, as long as Du Fan understood the terrifying nature of the Enforcement Squad, he wouldn’t dare provoke them.
“This mage tower is the tallest building in the imperial capital,” Kristi pointed around. “It’s about ninety-nine meters high. It can be considered the most important location in the entire Mage Guild headquarters, as well as the core of the guild’s magic array… But there are no guards here because… probably no force in this world can break through it. Even if all the divine mages, holy light mages, and temple knights from the Holy Church came together, they probably couldn’t do it…”
Du Fan frowned. But Kristi acted as if she hadn’t noticed and continued, “That’s because all the laboratories of mages above level eight in the Mage Guild are located here. Starting from the second floor, they’re all mages’ laboratories… Even legend has it that mages on the tenth floor and above are powerful mages close to the sacred rank, and there are even a few ancient beings of the sacred rank living up there… Of course, whether this is true or not, not even President Edward knows, because… he doesn’t even have the right to reach the tenth floor.”
Mages of the sacred rank… that is, the legendary Sacred Archmages…
Du Fan couldn’t help but take a breath. If such beings truly existed in this mage tower, indeed, not to mention the full force of the Holy Church, even with an army added, no one could conquer this place!
Not many were needed—just one Sacred Archmage would suffice. With a single forbidden spell, even if everyone from the Holy Church came together, few would be able to resist…
Under such circumstances, even someone with a head kicked by a pig wouldn’t dare provoke the Mage Guild…
After all, how many floors could there be in this ninety-nine-meter-tall mage tower? How many Sacred Archmages on the tenth floor and above? Even if there was just one, combined with those great mages, their power… even Ganon from back then would have to back down!
Seeing the slight change on Du Fan’s face, Kristi’s beautiful face showed a seductive smile as she said softly, “Well, Young Master Du Fan, these are just tangential matters. Let’s go see the teacher instead. He’s really looking forward to meeting you…”

Du Fan let out a low grunt, thinking to himself that it had been you warning me all along, yet now you tell me these are irrelevant matters. Hmph, do you really think I’m some foolish 16-year-old noble whom you can manipulate however you want? Of course, Du Fan couldn’t say such things out loud. Suppressing his annoyance, he forced a smile and said, “Then please, Miss Kristy, continue to lead the way.” Kristy nodded without saying more and simply led Du Fan toward the center of the floor. There were no stairs in this part of the mage tower, but there was a huge magic circle in the middle. Nothing strange about this magic circle—after stepping onto it, Kristy circled a few times around the crystal disc at its center, and they arrived at the ninth floor of the mage tower. The scenery ahead swayed for a moment before stabilizing, revealing them at the end of a long corridor, with what seemed to be a massive nanmu door in the distance. Stepping off the magic circle, Kristy pointed ahead and said, “This is the ninth floor of the Mage Guild, where the laboratories of past guild leaders are located. Sir Du Fan, you can be considered the first outsider to reach this place…” With that, Kristy made a gesture and led Du Fan in solemnly. The seemingly long corridor wasn’t actually very long—they reached the end in less than a moment. Yet Du Fan faintly sensed that the corridor was circular, likely circling the outside of the mage tower. Upon reaching the heavy nanmu door, Kristy didn’t knock but pushed it open with her hand. Inside was the laboratory of Edward, the current leader of the Mage Guild. Whether it was the same as other mages’ laboratories or not, as soon as they entered Edward’s lab, they saw a study room that didn’t differ much from an ordinary person’s study. But behind the desk in the study was a doorway leading to a space that seemed even more profound—probably Edward’s laboratory. Yet just standing there, Du Fan couldn’t help frowning. This place seemed a bit too large. From afar, when he had looked at the mage tower, it hadn’t seemed so huge! The study alone appeared to be over a hundred square meters—so what about the laboratory behind it… Du Fan couldn’t even imagine it.

Kristi smiled slightly beside Du Fan and said, “Young Master Du Fan, hasn’t your magic teacher told you that any great mage, when setting up a magic laboratory, uses space magic to expand it first? That way, no matter what happens, their laboratory will never be insufficient!”
Du Fan gave a wry smile and replied, “She really hasn’t mentioned that.”
A hint of surprise flashed in Kristi’s eyes as she was about to say something.
But just then, a gentle yet authoritative voice came from behind the door in the study: “Kristi, have you brought our capital’s little genius, Young Master Du Fan, here?”
Upon hearing this, Kristi’s expression became even more serious. She quickly replied respectfully, “Yes, teacher! I’ve brought Lord Du Fan here.”
It was still that voice, speaking calmly, “Good, very good… Then you may step back for now. I have some matters to discuss with Young Master Du Fan in private… During this time, I don’t want anyone to disturb us. Do you understand what I mean?”
Kristi replied respectfully, “The student understands! I’ll go handle it right away!”
With that, Kristi gave Du Fan a cautious glance, then lowered her hands and quickly stepped back. As she left through the door, the two large doors slowly closed behind her.
Du Fan felt a slight stir in his heart. It was quite interesting that Kristi had given him a look to be careful at the end…
“Young Master Du Fan… You can sit somewhere outside for now. I’ll be ready in a moment.”
Du Fan nodded but didn’t say much. He couldn’t help but look around the study. However, after a short while, he couldn’t help but smile wryly. The people from the Magic Guild were truly wealthy!
