Chapter 018: Clashing Wills
Du Fan sighed and said, “Is there really no other way?”
Gannon nodded. “It’s truly a pity, but you Rolandians are absolutely right. In such a situation, only the dead won’t reveal secrets.”
Du Fan couldn’t help but touch his nose and said, “Your words are quite reasonable, Lord Gannon. If I were in your position, I would definitely kill that person too… But even so, could you let me die knowing the truth? Since when have you had such great desires and ambitions? To seize a divine status? To possess a deity? It seems your demon god isn’t that great after all… He even thought of someone as trivial as you?”
Gannon smiled faintly. “Young Master Du Fan, you don’t need to know that… I originally wanted to let you live a little longer, but unfortunately, you’ve already angered me. How about this? Considering we’ve met before, I’ll leave your body intact. Although this place isn’t great, it can ensure your body remains unrotted for ten thousand years… A pretty good grave, don’t you think?”
Du Fan gave a bitter smile. “What about her?”
As he spoke, he glanced at Ringtone.
Gannon nodded slightly. “Don’t worry, Young Master Du Fan. Though I usually dislike doing unnecessary things, for your sake this time, I’ll let her keep her body intact as well. How about that?”
Du Fan pursed his lips but said nothing more.
Gannon smiled faintly. “Of course, if you’re not satisfied with my decision, you can fight back. But by then, I doubt you’ll even be able to keep your own body intact!”
Du Fan sighed. “As you wish… Lord Gannon.”
Gannon sighed softly. He raised his right hand and gave Du Fan a slight nod. “How tragic… Well, Young Master Du Fan, it seems we’re parting forever!”
As his voice faded, the surroundings suddenly became silent. Gannon’s gentle gesture triggered airflow, which carried an endless killing intent toward the two of them.
Du Fan’s expression changed. This time, he didn’t even have time to think of Ringtone. He immediately jumped out. His only chance now was the pool in the hall. As long as Gannon hadn’t deceived him about that, having a sacred-grade body was still better than being unable to do anything at all.
But at this moment, Du Fan and Ringo’s combat energy and magic were sealed off. Ganon’s slight touch was something neither of them could avoid. Although Du Fan tried his best to jump away, his speed was not even one-tenth of his usual level. Before his thoughts could fully process what was happening, he felt a loud “bang” in his chest, and the two of them were flung upward, crashing into a large pillar behind them. Before Du Fan could even scream in pain, he fell to the ground again, this time so hard that he felt dizzy and unable to even cry out. After a while, he managed to stand up unsteadily and glanced in Ringo’s direction, only to find her already unconscious—of course, as a shaman priest, she lacked physical strength. After days and nights of non-stop work, coupled with the prohibition of her most skilled magic here, such a collision without any protection meant survival was already a stroke of luck. Du Fan, on the other hand, had seen significant improvements in his physique after practicing countless techniques, so although he was dizzy from the fall, he didn’t pass out. Seeing Du Fan stand up, Ganon didn’t pursue him further. He simply smiled faintly and said, “I used less than 10% of my strength in that move just now. What do you feel, Young Master Du Fan? If there’s no problem, I’ll just slowly kill you like this. How about that? In that case, you shouldn’t have even a single wound.” Du Fan gave a bitter smile. He could understand Ganon’s cat-and-mouse mentality. Apparently, this guy was very upset about the sudden disappearance of that so-called Demon God. Now, he had become Ganon’s punching bag. To put it plainly, this self-important “angel” was nothing but a psychopath! Seeing Du Fan remain silent, Ganon still smiled and said, “What’s the matter, Young Master Du Fan? Aren’t you going to resist?” Du Fan slowly stood up, took a few steps toward him, and said in a low voice, “Would resisting help?” “How could it not help?” Ganon laughed. “With Young Master Du Fan’s intelligence, he should understand why I’m so angry right now. Of course, if you try to resist a little, it will make me even angrier. Although in my eyes, you’re nothing but an ant, an ant that dares to resist is far better than one that doesn’t!”
Du Fan took a few more steps quietly. His goal was clear now—no matter what, he would first go to that pool to see if the so-called Heavenly Sacred Water really worked, and delay other matters as long as possible. After thinking for a moment, he said solemnly, “Lord Gannon, if you wanted to play, why didn’t you keep Spalitis around to play slowly with someone like me who won’t fight back? Wouldn’t that be interesting?”
“You mention Spalitis?” Gannon snorted. “It might be more fun that way, but with that guy’s personality, if he gets a chance, his first move will be to run away. I certainly don’t want to let him go…”
Du Fan uttered an “Oh” and said, “It seems Lord Gannon is also afraid that someone might escape?”
Gannon replied indifferently, “It’s not fear—it’s just better to be cautious…”
As he spoke, a strange glint appeared in his eyes. With a light laugh, he said, “Young Master Du Fan, do you think that by talking to me a bit more and then taking the chance to jump into that pool, you can soak yourself in the Heavenly Sacred Water and thus have a chance to fight me?”
Du Fan felt a chill in his heart, realizing his schemes had been seen through. He could no longer afford to hide and quickly rushed toward the pool.
Seeing Du Fan’s move, Gannon merely sneered and said, “Young Master Du Fan, Young Master Du Fan. Although I said the Heavenly Sacred Water can turn your body into a sacred rank, do you know? The prerequisite is that you must be able to reach it! Do you really think I didn’t expect you to do this? With your current strength, you probably won’t even get that last chance!”
Before Gannon could finish speaking, there was a “bang”—Du Fan had already collided with a transparent wall. Fortunately, he had little strength left, so although he hit it, it didn’t hurt much.
Seeing Du Fan’s reaction, Gannon laughed heartily and said, “Young Master Du Fan, you’ve shattered your last hope with your own actions. How do you feel? Can you put it into words to amuse me?”
Du Fan rubbed his head, glanced back at Gannon. A silver glint flashed in his eyes. He smiled slightly but said solemnly, “My hope shattered by myself? Lord Gannon, I’m afraid you’ll be disappointed… If I told you I suddenly have the power to deal with you now, would you be surprised?”
Gannon was stunned for a moment before suddenly laughing loudly and looking up at the sky. “You suddenly have power? Young Master Du Fan! Don’t just because I keep calling you ‘young master’ that you really think you’re something special! You’re just an ordinary being. No matter how high your status is on the Roland Continent, you’re still just an ordinary being! Not to mention you, even that Pope of your Roland Continent wouldn’t have the slightest chance to move here! What do you think this place is? This is a divine realm created by the power of the Demon God! Do you really think a mere human can break through the spatial laws of this divine realm?”
Du Fan sneered and said, “Lord Gannon, that’s not necessarily the case… I just suddenly felt like I understood something…”
Gannon frowned and asked, “Understood what?”
Du Fan replied calmly, “I really have to thank that collision just now for waking me up… In this so-called divine realm, since I can’t use combat energy or magic, then I won’t use them… But there are some things I can still use, like… this.”
As he spoke, a row of arrows suddenly appeared in his hand from his storage ring—exactly the same set he had used to attack Aldas earlier. The arrowheads were still coated in poison, and they were aimed coldly at Gannon, seemingly filled with deadly intent!
Gannon seemed stunned upon seeing the arrows and suddenly laughed, “Young Master Du Fan, do you really think this stuff can do anything to me? What on earth are you thinking? Using such crude weapons against a holy angel—do you despise yourself, or are you despising me?”
Du Fan curled his lips and said, “Then… Lord Gannon, go ahead and give it a try… Let’s see who’s really looking down on whom!”
As soon as he finished speaking, Du Fan pulled the trigger. With a whoosh, the arrow shot toward Gannon.
Gannon was about to say more sarcastic words, but suddenly his expression changed. “You actually poisoned it!” he said. Raising his hand slightly, he created a wind blade that deflected the arrow. He glanced back at Du Fan with a cold smile.
But what met him was Du Fan’s calm smile. Then it seemed as though Du Fan’s lips moved slightly, as if saying, “When did I say I had no way to fight back?”
