Chapter 017: Chaos

In the solemn and majestic Temple of the Demon God, there were pools of water spraying everywhere, along with an empty crystal coffin suspended above those pools by the water flow.
When Du Fan saw this scene, his expression changed instantly. Upon spotting Gannon standing by the pool with a dazed look, he couldn’t help but inwardly groan in despair!
He and Ringtone stepped back a few steps, unsure of what to do. Just then, a heart-wrenching scream echoed through the air!
“How is this possible!”
“How is this possible!!!”
“Where is the Demon God! Where is the Demon God? Where is the Demon God…?”
Standing by the pool, Gannon appeared utterly chaotic. His calm and indifferent expression had vanished; instead, a violent murderous intent radiated from him, making it evident from afar how frenzied he was.
“I saw it with my own eyes! I saw the Demon God sealed here. But why! Why is he gone now?”
Amidst his roars, Gannon waved his hand sharply. A crescent-shaped halo shot out from his palm and, with a swift motion, split the crystal coffin suspended in midair into two halves. The cut was perfectly smooth, as if it had been done naturally.
The two pieces of the coffin fell to the ground with a soft thud. Gannon immediately turned and rushed over. After searching inside the coffin for a moment, he suddenly stood up. With a slight press of his left hand, the glowing mass in his hand expanded several times, revealing a blurred figure covered in golden light. That figure wore a pained expression—resembling Spalitis to some extent.
Gannon held Spalitis’s soul captive. His expression returned to normal as he smirked coldly at Spalitis and said, “Spalitis, now can you tell me… what exactly is going on here?”
Spalitis’s soul seemed to emit a groaning cry. Moments later, Spalitis let out a strange laugh and said, “Toronus… I told you before—the Demon God belongs only to me. No matter what, you’ll never be able to get him… Hahaha… Hahaha…”

Gannon exerted force violently, and a holy flame emerged from his fingertips, beginning to burn Spalitis’s soul. “Spalitis, you must know that under the holy flames of the heavens, even if you’re an angel, I can burn your soul to ashes. So, will you tell me what you know, or do you prefer to be burned to death right here?”
“Hmph, Toronus, you can’t threaten me!” Spalitis screamed. “Even if you destroy my soul here, I’ll simply return to my origin. One day, I’ll be able to rise again, and then I’ll definitely hold you accountable!”
Gannon sneered. “Can you wait that long? By then, the Demon God might already be gone. What’s the point of your resurrection then?”
Spalitis fell silent.
Gannon smiled again. “What if you tell me everything you know… and instead of killing you, I even revive you? How about that?”
As he spoke, the holy flame in Gannon’s hand dimmed slightly.
Spalitis hesitated for a moment before saying softly, “Lord Toronus, haven’t you always wanted me dead? Why are you offering such conditions now? Could it be… that the Demon God is really that important to you?”
Gannon hummed. “Does it mean nothing at all?”
Spalitis sighed, and his soul in the void seemed to close its eyes.
Without pause, Gannon continued, “I know you don’t trust me, but if you tell me everything you know, I’ll not only revive you but also give you the Demon God. How about that?”
Du Fan and Ringo were both stunned, not knowing what to do.
Spalitis, on the other hand, was shocked. “Lord Toronus, what do you mean? Aren’t you trying to save the Demon God? So what exactly are you doing now?”
Gannon shook his head slowly and sneered. “Did I say I wanted to save her? That woman may be beautiful, but she’s not worth all this effort on my part… Once I find her, I’ll take her divinity right away. After that, her strength will be reduced to that of a holy being at most. With us working together, can’t we easily deal with a mere holy being? Spalitis, haven’t you wanted this woman for a long time? I’ll grant your wish now—not only will I hand her over to you… but after I obtain her divinity and become a new god, I’ll make you my first angel. How about that?”

“A divine essence!” Spalitis seemed unable to hold back his laughter. “Hahaha… Toronus… I always thought you were utterly loyal to the Demon Lord, never imagining you wanted a divine essence instead… Hahaha, I have no interest in divine essences at all, but we agreed that the divine essence would be yours… while the Demon Lord would be mine… I accept your conditions!”
Gannon smiled slightly. He released his left hand, which had been gripping Spalitis’s soul, and said in a low voice, “Very well… Spalitis. Can you tell me what’s really going on?”
Spalitis’s soul floating in midair seemed to ponder for a moment before whispering, “If I’m not mistaken, hundreds of years ago, someone else came here first…”
Gannon was surprised. “Did that person use blood that didn’t belong to this world to break your seal?”
“No, that’s not it,” Spalitis replied, showing some hesitation. “He simply untied my seal, and we fought fiercely. But in the end, I lost and he sealed me again…”
Gannon’s expression changed. “Even with the Fangs of the Abyss, you weren’t a match for him?”
Spalitis shook his head slowly. “At that time, I couldn’t merge with the Fangs of the Abyss, so my strength was about the same as before. But against that person, I had no chance to fight back at all… Even after being defeated, I couldn’t see his face. He entered but never came out. I thought he was dead, so I didn’t worry about it. But it seems now that that person…”
After listening, Gannon pondered for a moment before saying, “There are few people in this world stronger than you. Do you still remember what that person looked like?”
Spalitis gave a bitter smile. “I’ve never been able to remember his face, but I do remember his white robes and the aura of combat energy surrounding him as he moved his hands and feet…”
Gannon smiled. “I see… Human warriors often wear white robes. It was hundreds of years ago, and as long as he’s still alive, how could I fail to find him? Well, Spalitis, thank you very much… And then… I hope we never meet again!”
Spalitis was stunned. “Lord Toronus, you…”

Before he could speak, Gannon’s hand was once again pressed against the throat of his soul. A holy flame erupted from Gannon’s body as he leaned in slightly and smiled coldly. “I’m sorry, Spalitis. I can’t hand over the Demon Goddess to you!”

“You… you… you promised!” Spalitis’ soul roared in pain!

“Oh, I lied,” Gannon said coldly. “Can’t an angel lie? Besides, both the divine essence of the Demon Goddess and her body belong to me… How dare you, a mere Desire Angel, even think of touching the Demon Goddess’ body? You’re not worthy!”

Gannon’s voice was filled with coldness and disdain. Then, with a sudden force, the holy flame surged upward, and Spalitis’ soul was instantly reduced to ashes with a loud crackling sound!

In that moment of disappearance, Spalitis’ shrill voice cried out, “Toronus, you despicable wretch! I’ll definitely come back to settle accounts with you!”

Gannon smiled faintly and said, “It’s a pity. No matter how many times you come, you won’t have any chance…”

With a wave of his hand, the holy flame slowly vanished, leaving not even a trace of smoke in the air. Gannon seemed to sigh softly. He turned his head slightly to glance at Du Fan and smiled, saying, “Young Master Du Fan… Do you find what just happened interesting?”

“Interesting…” Du Fan smiled bitterly. “But this kind of ‘interest’ probably comes at a cost, right?”

Gannon tilted his head and thought for a moment before saying, “Indeed, there is a cost… Young Master Du Fan, originally, I had this plan: since you two are quite close to me, I would let you witness the moment I seize the divine essence and become a god. Then I would establish a Demon Goddess Cult to draw faith power from them. It wouldn’t be a problem to make one of you the pope and the other the holy maiden… But, as you can see, Young Master Du Fan… my expectations were dashed. Although finding the Demon Goddess isn’t difficult based on the clues, I’m in a terrible mood right now—so bad that I have no interest in continuing this game with you two anymore… Also, to ensure that nothing you saw or heard today gets out, I think… the only way is for you both to die…”
