Chapter 007: The Source of Gods

Both Du Fan and Tasia showed strange expressions on their faces. Du Fan had never heard of what the Source of Gods was, which was understandable, but why hadn’t even Tasia heard of it?
What was more crucial was, why did Feri show such an expression as soon as he heard about this thing that neither of them recognized?
After hesitating for a moment, Du Fan finally spoke in a low voice, “Feri… what exactly is the Source of Gods? Why have I never heard of it?”
Feri hesitated for a while, unsure whether to reveal it or not. Eventually, he gritted his teeth and said, “It’s normal for both of you not to know what the Source of Gods is. Even I only learned of its value by chance. But since you, Lord Du Fan, are my savior, it’s fine to tell you.”
Du Fan smiled and said, “Then thank you very much.”
Feri struggled to sit upright, took a deep breath, and said, “The Source of Gods isn’t actually the name of that thing. It’s just a name given to it in the secret texts of our church. It is said that in certain places on the Roland Continent, objects resembling light can be found. These objects gather together, containing the purest essence of power. Legend has it that they are remnants from the Age of Miracles tens of thousands of years ago, and may even represent the gods’ understanding of power… That’s why they are called the Source of Gods.”
Du Fan was shocked. Although he had never encountered such pure essence of power, he could understand its value. If he could obtain it, how much could his strength increase?
No wonder Bruce was willing to pay such a high price for it and do anything to get it. Even he would go to any lengths.
Moreover, the Source of Gods was countless times more precious than divine artifacts. Now that he knew it existed, how could he let it slip away?
With these thoughts in mind, Du Fan immediately resolved to obtain it at all costs.
Seeing Du Fan’s expression, Feri, though unable to read minds, could guess his intentions to about seventy or eighty percent. He shook his head slightly and said, “Lord Du Fan… the Source of Gods must not fall into the hands of those at Roland Academy. Otherwise…”

Du Fan nodded slightly, a smile spreading across his face: “It’s only natural… If the essence of the gods truly exists… how could I let it fall into those guys’ hands?”
Feyre nodded. This time, he struggled for a moment before finally pulling out a small bottle. He tossed it to Du Fan and smiled softly, saying, “Since Lord Du Fan has made up his mind… then I’ll also contribute my part to help him.”
Du Fan opened the bottle cap and took a look. A holy aura rushed towards him—what was inside the bottle was the purest holy water.
Du Fan dipped his finger into the bottle, took a drop of holy water, and applied it to his wound. The once mangled wound immediately returned to its original state, as if it had never been injured at all…
…
In the damp and dark ancient city, it seemed there was always a lingering wind that wouldn’t disperse. The wind carried smells of decay and blood, creating an extremely gloomy atmosphere.
Under such conditions, even the solemn and majestic divine palace in the center of the ancient city emitted a dark aura.
At the entrance of the divine palace, a few people stood there casually. The man at the front had blazing combat energy around him, as bright as the sunlight above. He held no weapon, but his constantly swirling combat energy coiled around his fingertips, ready to transform into the perfect weapon at any moment.
Oldas slightly subdued his combat energy. He extended his right hand and gently touched the marble-carved giant doors of the divine palace for a while before sighing, “The doors of this divine palace are indeed not simple. Although there are no magic arrays on them, I can sense that with our strength alone, we can never force our way in. It seems we’ll have to rely on your skills, Lord Nicholas.”
Nicholas grunted inwardly, thinking, “Since this divine palace is blessed by divine power, why would it need magic arrays? But this pure divine power is beyond the capability of those below the sacred rank to handle alone.”
However, he didn’t say this out loud. Instead, he nodded slightly and said, “Since Lord Oldas says so, I’ll give it a try.”
With that, he made a gesture and slowly walked up to the doors.
Alfred saw this and hurriedly followed, deliberately separating Nicholas from Oldas.
Oldas naturally understood Alfred’s intention, but he just smiled indifferently, drifted back a few meters, and then stopped.

Nicholas placed his hand on the gate of the temple. He frowned slightly, his expression so sorrowful that it broke Alfred’s heart. After a moment, he slowly withdrew his hand and said, “I can easily open this gate, but I sense that there seems to be some impure presence at the entrance. If I open it, that thing will surge out. If either of us fails to hold back…” He didn’t finish his sentence, but everyone understood what he meant.

Oldas smiled faintly. The combat energy around him flared, and the energy at the tips of his fingers condensed into a long spear several meters long. The shaft of the spear was made of silver-colored combat energy, while its blade was a mixture of yellow and silver. As soon as the spear appeared, it exuded a fierce killing aura.

It seemed only then that Oldas truly showed his true strength. With that single spear thrust, his momentum was immense, almost as if he could single-handedly hold back an entire army. Nicholas glanced at him in surprise and said, “Since Lord Oldas is already prepared, I won’t say much more… Lord Oldas, be careful.” With that, he stepped back a few paces, his expression turning solemn.

Nicholas’s excessively pale hands moved gently in midair. As he moved, faint beams of holy light emanated from his palms, forming streaks of pure white in the air. As his movements grew faster, those whites formed strange runes, which intertwined to create a massive magic circle. Unlike ordinary magic circles, this one floated in midair. Without Nicholas’s holy energy sustaining it, it would have disappeared long ago.

Finally, Nicholas gave one last light tap with his interlaced hands in midair. The entire magic circle suddenly glowed brightly. With a gentle push from Nicholas, the magic circle, as if weighed heavily, slowly moved toward the marble gate. The moment the magic circle touched the gate, the entire gate trembled slightly before slowly rising upward.

Alfred’s face lit up with joy. “It’s open…” With his words, it seemed as though endless purity surged out from the temple. Nicholas smiled faintly and said, “It seems I still…” But before he could finish, his expression changed.

All three present had strengths above level six, each possessing an astonishing sense of perception. They sensed at the same time an endless aura of death emerging from behind the main gate. What was once a sacred temple instantly turned into a lifeless necropolis.

Cracks began to appear on the corrupted ground, and the stench of decay and blood in the air grew increasingly intense. Soon, bursts of explosions could be heard as skeletons, large and small, staggered out from all parts of the temple. At first, there were only a few skeleton soldiers, but soon skeleton archers and skeleton mages also appeared one after another.

These undead creatures were no longer the weak beings they used to be; nourished by the aura of death, each of them possessed formidable strength.

Nicholas’ expression changed several times before he finally let out a low sigh and said, “What a desecrated scene!”

With a gentle wave of his hand, a beam of holy light shot out from his palm, instantly destroying the nearest skeleton soldier.

But as that skeleton soldier fell, countless others seemed to have found their target and rushed at Nicholas and his companions.

Nicholas sighed again as waves of holy light shot out from his fingertips, hitting their targets precisely each time. Yet despite his incredible divine power, he couldn’t sustain such heavy consumption. In less than a moment, the holy light from his fingertips dimmed.

Seeing this, Alfred snorted coldly, shielding Nicholas behind him. He drew his knight’s sword from his waist and slashed around, creating several intersecting beams of holy light that were as dazzling as fireworks, instantly crushing several skeletons into pieces.

Behind him, Aldas sneered as he swung his spear, forged from combat energy, sweeping through the crowd and shattering countless skeletons. The combat energy on its blade, mixed with faint holy light, exploded, creating a clear space among the skeletons.

Aldas spun his spear again, stabbing and slashing left and right, reducing the skeletons around the three of them to fragments in no time. Clearly, these low-level skeleton soldiers posed no threat to him at all.

Aldas swept his spear forward once more, clearing a path through the main hall of the temple. Glancing at the darkness inside, he suddenly smiled softly and said, “Why… won’t the two of you come in with me?”
