Chapter 005: Women Are Troublesome

Staring at the blue magic circle in front of him with narrowed eyes and walking around it several times, Du Fan finally began to grasp what was inside.
Amidst a faint blue glow, the hazy shadow didn’t resemble anything specific—it seemed more like a person, and a woman at that.
Realizing it was a young girl, Du Fan hesitated.
He was almost certain this girl inside the magic circle wasn’t an ordinary being. Whether she was some perverted bishop’s possession or a witch imprisoned here years ago, saving her would surely bring benefits.
But how should he rescue her?
In this world, magic wasn’t something to be taken lightly. For someone like Du Fan, who lacked any talent, not to mention practical experience, even the limited knowledge of magic he’d seen in books couldn’t explain what was happening here, let alone destroy the magic circle.
If a worthless person who knew neither combat skills nor magic could casually destroy this magic circle, it wouldn’t be a joke—it would be a miracle.
Rubbing his sore brows, Du Fan sighed, “Should I call Old Mark to take a look? With his abilities, he might be able to deal with this magic circle. Even if not, at least he could protect me, right?”
“But…”
At that point, Du Fan shook his head slightly. For some reason, he felt a strange urge—to keep this secret from anyone at all.
After a long while, he finally gritted his teeth and muttered, “It’s mine after all… I just don’t believe I can’t destroy the magic circle. I’ll just pull her out directly.”
With that, he stepped around the magic circle and slowly reached out toward one of the blue crystals.
In an instant, he felt a chill at his fingertips, followed by a burst of light.
The entire magic circle seemed like an inflated balloon pricked by a needle—silently, a intense glow burst forth.
Strangely, however, the light was extremely gentle. Normally, if a human eye were suddenly exposed to such light, it would be blinded 100%. But that didn’t happen to Du Fan.

He only felt a slight coolness in the areas of his body covered by the light, along with an overwhelming sense of comfort. Finally, after an unknown amount of time, the light gradually dimmed, and Du Fan was able to see clearly—a woman dressed in a white robe suddenly appeared before him. Her curves were hinted at by the loose robe, appearing both elusive and extremely alluring. Thin silver chains wrapped around her arms, waist, and thighs, and even her face was covered by a veil symbolizing holiness. This was clearly a restricted area! It seemed that the people of some island nation in his past life really loved this kind of setting; unfortunately, he couldn’t recall the name of such practices right away… Du Fan grieved over his limited knowledge for a while before turning his attention back to the woman. But this time, for some reason, he faintly felt that the woman had glanced at him casually the moment she appeared. The feeling was strange, as if his soul had been spied upon. “What the hell…” Du Fan sighed. “There really is a woman here…” Saying this, he frowned and glanced around. At some point, the entire dark underground space had become illuminated. Du Fan was at the center of the space, with various magical runes painted on the surrounding walls, clearly meant to contain the magic array in the middle. But now, that magic array had been destroyed by Du Fan for some unknown reason, and the runes around it gradually dimmed, as if they might fail at any moment. There were also several large doorways on the walls; it seemed the strange events had alerted someone, as faint footsteps could be heard. “It seems this woman is really important…” Feeling the gravity of the situation, Du Fan gave a bitter smile, looked up at the stairs he had come down, then reached out to embrace the woman before him, ready to leave. Under normal circumstances, Du Fan would have considered the benefits of saving her, but in such a critical moment, he had no time to think things through.

He had just picked up the woman and was about to turn away when, at that moment, Du Fan felt a chill on his throat—a shiny silver spear was already pressed against it. The sharp blade must have cut through his skin at some point, and the sensation of blood flowing was extremely intense. He was dead; this time it was over. Du Fan cursed inwardly, but he kept his expression unchanged, slowly raising his head to look. Somehow, the area around him was now filled with Templar knights, each holding a shiny silver spear pointed at him. Their undisguised murderous intent made him shudder. The one holding the spear against Du Fan’s neck appeared to be the Grand Knight, though their faces were hidden by steel helms. Du Fan tried hard to keep his feet steady, then slowly wore a fake, hypocritical smile as he said softly, “I thought it was someone else. It turns out to be you, Grand Knight. But what does this spear in your hand mean? Don’t you know that anyone who points a weapon at a priest shall be punished by burning to death?” The Grand Knight snorted, his expression hidden by the helmet, “What’s going on… Aren’t you one of the White Cloaks from the outer temple? How did you end up here?” Du Fan’s heart stirred, but his smile remained unchanged. “Oh… So you know me, Grand Knight? Then you should understand that I wouldn’t appear here for no reason. My purpose here… is to take this woman away. You’ve done your duty—now retire.” “Take this woman away?” The Grand Knight sneered. “It seems you really know nothing. Though I don’t know why you’re here, never mind… Anyway, anyone who enters this place must die… As a sign of respect for the White Cloaks, I’ll personally send you to heaven… God… is watching you…” As he spoke, the spear in his hand retracted slightly, and a faint golden light burst from his body. Du Fan immediately recognized that this was the combat energy unique to knights at the peak of level eight. Not to mention himself, even a hundred of him would be doomed against such a knight. In front of someone like this, an ordinary person like him was nothing but an ant.

With a bitter smile, Du Fan closed his eyes, ready to face death. In such an absolute death scenario, any struggle or pleading was useless; it was better to give up completely. It seemed his fate this time was truly hopeless.
Bitterly smiling inwardly, Du Fan tightened his grip. At least he could get to enjoy some tofu before dying—seemed the old Light God still hadn’t completely abandoned his follower. It appeared he could become the successor to that eunuch after death.
“I hope in my next life… my luck will be better.” As he kept searching around, Du Fan made one last resolve in his heart.
“Hey… please stop touching my back… It feels… so strange…”
Just as Du Fan had given up, a strange voice suddenly entered his mind. The voice was extremely delicate, with an indescribable sense of laziness. Du Fan was 100% sure it must belong to a woman.
His expression changed instantly as he snapped his eyes open. He scanned the surroundings keenly and muttered to himself. Having spent six years in the Holy Church, he knew there were no women among the Temple Knights. Yet the voice that spoke to him just now was definitely that of a woman.
In front of him, the Knight Commander’s combat energy was blazing fiercely. It seemed the commander intended to deliver a fatal blow to Du Fan at his peak strength.
Realizing his situation and hearing that strange woman’s voice, Du Fan faintly sensed he might still have a glimmer of hope. His expression calmed down, and he said to the Knight Commander, “Sir Knight Commander, I know you definitely won’t spare me today… So, as my last request before dying, could you please fulfill one thing for me?”
