Chapter 0405: Making You Understand the Power of a Mage
The top ten names from the competition were finally revealed.
The Runing family had three representatives, while the Beccar family had two, the Terence family had two, the Demos family had one, the Gibran family had one, and the Stanny family had one.
The three representatives from the Runing family were Huang Long, Fei De, and Harris!
The Runing family’s leadership had expected Fei De and Harris to make it into the top ten, but they hadn’t anticipated Huang Long would also make it. Initially, they thought Spindu had a chance to enter the top ten; now, that spot went to Huang Long.
In the central hall of the Runing family’s mountain peak, Huang Long, Fei De, and Harris stood together, along with Kennedy and over a dozen elders from the Runing family who had come to the Forgotten Corner.
“I’m glad that you three have managed to secure one of the top ten spots and bring honor to our family,” Kennedy’s voice rang out from above the hall.
Kennedy, along with Bishop and others, looked at Huang Long and the others with admiration in their eyes.
Of course, this admiration for Huang Long carried a hint of complexity and strangeness.
Next, Kennedy encouraged the three again before stopping to let the elders speak.
“Huang Hai, tell us—what’s the name of the move you used to defeat Sid from the Gibran family?” Bishop asked Huang Long in a condescending tone befitting an elder.
Such a question carried an implied threat.
Huang Long smirked coldly. “Are you asking me?”
What move? It’s a personal matter—why tell you?
“Dareful!” another elder snapped. “Huang Hai, don’t think just because you’re in the top ten and have a special status that you can become arrogant and disrespectful. The great elder is asking you questions—just answer!”
This elder was clearly on Bishop’s side.
Although the Runing family was led mainly by Kennedy as its patriarch, the high-ranking members were divided into three main factions centered around Kennedy, Bazel, and Bishop.
Huang Long gave a cold look. “What if I don’t answer?”
“You?!” The elder pointed angrily at Huang Long, clearly furious. But everyone knew Huang Hai had a supreme god backing him, and Kennedy had been “protecting” him, so he really couldn’t do much to Huang Hai.
“Patriarch, that move of Huang Hai is extremely powerful. Should we consider teaching it to our core family members? If all of them could use it, their strength would surely increase significantly,” Bishop said, glancing at Huang Long before turning to Kennedy.
“Promote it?” Kennedy frowned.
Although Bishop didn’t say it outright, everyone understood his meaning. In other words, he wanted Huang Long to “offer” this technique to the family!
Huang Long sneered inwardly upon hearing this.
“I agree with the Elder’s opinion,” said one of the elders after hearing that, turning to express his agreement.
Donald couldn’t help but speak up at that moment: “It’s an individual matter for family members to practice and master techniques. So, Harris and Fei also used their own secret techniques in their earlier duel—should those be promoted as well? Should other family members do the same? Moreover, such unique techniques can only be fully utilized by the person who mastered them; even if others learn them, they may not be able to harness their full power!”
Bishop and the elder were speechless.
Finally, the elder stammered, “Well, Huang Hai’s situation is different.”
Donald sneered, “What’s different about Huang Hai?”
The elder was at a loss for words.
“Enough, let’s stop arguing. As Elder Donald said, Elder Bishop, you think Huang Hai’s technique is very powerful and want to promote it among the core members. I recall your technique ‘Dragon Hidden in the Earth’ is also extremely powerful—should that be promoted too?” Kennedy spoke up then.
With Kennedy’s words, none of the elders dared speak again, and Bishop’s face turned pale.
After a while, Huang Long and the other two left.
Kennedy and the dozen or so others discussed the upcoming top-ten competition for a while before dispersing. When they returned to their own chambers, Bishop looked gloomy.
Fei, summoned by Bishop, came over. Seeing his grandfather’s expression, he didn’t dare speak and stood there silently.
“That Donald really lacks tact!” Bishop’s eyes narrowed, a cold glint appearing in them. After a moment, he turned and said, “Tomorrow is the top-ten battle. Initially, I thought your biggest threats would be Saxton from the Bekkar family and Augus from the Terence family. But now it seems Huang Hai poses an even greater threat!”
“Grandfather, don’t worry. If I face Huang Hai, I’ll definitely defeat him and avenge you!” Fei vowed.
“Defeat him?” Bishop looked at his grandson and asked, “Are you really confident?”
Fei had intended to say yes, but facing Bishop’s gaze, he changed his mind at the last moment and replied hesitantly, “I, um… Fei isn’t entirely confident.”
“Entirely?” Bishop said, then added, “It seems you’re not confident at all. Can you break through Huang Hai’s defenses? And can you counter his technique that defeated Sid from the Gibran family?”
Fei De’s face turned red. He opened his mouth to speak but eventually lowered his head. “The grandson is indeed unsure.” Though he didn’t want to admit it, it was true.
When Huang Hai made it into the top 300, he had been delighted, thinking that if they met, he would have a chance to teach him a lesson and show him how to behave. But now, since Huang Hai had taken first place, especially after seeing him defeat Sid yesterday, that idea had long vanished. Now, he even hoped not to encounter Huang Hai at all.
“Unsure?” Bishop snorted coldly.
Fei De felt a tightening in his heart.
“But you don’t need to worry,” Bishop said suddenly, his tone shifting.
Hearing this, Fei De raised his head and looked at Bishop in surprise. “What does Grandpa mean?”
Before Bishop could speak, a flash of light appeared in his hands, revealing three divine artifacts: an outer armor, a soft armor resembling inner armor, and a sharp sword. As these artifacts appeared, a fierce divine power filled the entire hall. Even Fei De, who was at the peak of the Seventh Level of the King of the Underworld, was forced to step back in shock, staring at the three artifacts in Bishop’s hands.
Bishop glanced at his grandson and said, “These three artifacts—one for physical defense, one for spiritual defense, and one for attack—are all top-tier Ninth Level artifacts. Though not as powerful as the main artifacts, they are extremely close to them. With these three, no matter how strong Huang Hai’s attacks or defenses are, you won’t have to worry—unless he’s hiding his true strength and his attacks reach the peak of the Eighth Level of the King of the Underworld.” At this, Bishop’s tone turned cold. “By then, you must defeat Huang Hai for me and win first place. After that, these three artifacts will be your reward from Grandpa. Otherwise…” He snorted.
Fei De’s heart tightened, but his face showed joy as he vowed, “Please rest assured, Grandpa. With these three artifacts, I will definitely teach Huang Hai a lesson and win first place!”
Hearing this, Bishop’s expression relaxed. He handed the three artifacts to his grandson and said, “Be careful of the others too, especially Augus from the Terrence family!”
Those in the top ten were all the strongest young members of the six major families—none of them were easy opponents.
Feid approached the three sacred artifacts. Looking at the artifact in his hands, joy appeared on his face. Hearing Bishop repeatedly urge him to pay attention to that Augus, he wondered, “Grandpa, is this Augus stronger than that Saxon?” From the previous battles, although Augus was strong, he thought he shouldn’t be stronger than the Saxon from the Beikal family.
“You’ve only seen Augus’s surface strength. Though he hasn’t shown his full power yet, I have a feeling he’s not weaker than Huang Hai,” said Bishop.
“Yes, Grandpa. I understand,” Feid replied respectfully.
At that moment, the descendants of other families who had made it into the top ten were also summoned by their family leaders to be instructed about what to watch out for and who to be cautious of in tomorrow’s battles.
Not long after Huang Long returned from the central hall, Chester and Fat Guy came over. Naturally, they came to congratulate Huang Long on making it into the top ten.
“Brother Huang Hai, your move was too fierce! I heard that Sid is still unconscious despite being treated by the elders of the Gibran family,” said Fat Guy Francis with a smile. “Great! I never liked that kid anyway. What did he say? ‘The first place in the sixth battle platform is mine’? Well, now he’s been knocked out by Brother Huang Hai!”
Huang Long shook his head and smiled at these words.
“However, Brother Huang Hai, you avenged Chester’s hatred. Next time, you’ll have to help Fat Guy take revenge against the Augus from the Terrence family too!” Fat Guy continued. “If it weren’t for that Augus, I wouldn’t have been beaten so badly by my grandpa these days!” He then pretended to look pitiful.
Huang Long and Chester exchanged smiles.
One night passed.
The next day arrived—the first day of the battles among the top ten. Compared to before, the emotions of the gods in the surrounding mountains were even more heightened. Although the battles for first place in each platform were exciting, these top ten battles would be even more thrilling!
However, these top ten battles were fought in pairs, divided into five groups. Instead of happening simultaneously like before, they would take place in five batches.
Huang Long was fortunate enough to be in the first batch. His opponent was another descendant from the Terrence family, named Ahieber, aside from Augus.
Since the battles were held in five batches, the competition venue had been changed to a single battle platform, which had also been expanded several times over.
“Huang Hai, I have to admit your strength is greater than mine. But sometimes, strength alone doesn’t determine everything,” said Ahieber, dressed in purple and looking indifferent, across from Huang Long.
Huang Long replied calmly, “Is that so?”
Ahieber sneered and said, “I’ll show you now just how powerful a spellcaster really is!” With that, he moved his hands swiftly, and in an instant, runes were laid out on the competition platform to form a restriction spell. At the same time, a bright light surged from within the spell’s restrictions, displaying great power!
On a mountain peak somewhere, Brad watched as Ahieber set up the restriction spell, shaking his head with a smile. This kid actually dared to play with spells in front of the young master?
