Chapter 68
Wang Guohua nodded in satisfaction and turned to look at Xie Wendong proudly, as if to say that he too was a key figure with loyal subordinates of his own. Xie Wendong felt pity for these people secretly and gave Wang Guohua a thumbs up with a smile.
Wang Guohua laughed heartily and said to everyone, “Alright, now go to bed. I’ll call you when the time comes. Go upstairs and find a place to sleep!” Then he said to Xie Wendong, “Brother, tell your men to go upstairs and get some rest too!”
Xie Wendong nodded at Jiang Sen beside him. Jiang Sen said to his men, “Go up and sleep with them, but don’t sleep too soundly!” Everyone nodded in agreement and followed Wang Guohua’s men upstairs.
Wang Guohua said to Xie Wendong, “Future glory and wealth depend on today’s plan, haha!” Thinking about the operation tomorrow at dawn, he became nervous, his heart pounding violently.
Seeing his nervousness, Xie Wendong patted his shoulder and said, “It’s up to humans to plan, but fate decides success. Don’t worry. Some things in life are already predetermined; no matter how you try to avoid them, you can’t!” Xie Wendong spoke from experience, as if referring to himself, and added, “For example, Brother Wang, you’re destined to have this chance for good fortune tomorrow!”
Hearing this, Wang Guohua felt a bit relieved. He took out a cigarette from his pocket and handed one to Xie Wendong. The two sat on the sofa and smoked in silence. Wang Guohua asked, “This is such a crucial matter. You’re smart, brother—think again, is there any flaw?”
Xie Wendong thought to himself, “So wordy!” He lowered his head and thought carefully, being quite sure there were no flaws—though the flaws he was thinking of were different from those Wang Guohua had in mind. Shaking his head, he said, “Don’t worry, Brother Wang. This time it’s foolproof; there’s no reason for failure! Haha!” After saying that, Xie Wendong laughed. Wang Guohua laughed along foolishly, not realizing that he had already been calculated by Xie Wendong.
After a while, Wang Guohua said, “Brother, go sleep for a while. Otherwise, you won’t have the energy in the early morning!”
Xie Wendong was indeed tired and nodded in agreement.
At 1 a.m., Wang Guohua was the first to wake up. After waking the others, they gathered in the area on the first floor. He said to his men, “I know you’re guessing what our next move will be. Let me tell you now—we’re going to launch a surprise attack on those ‘old ghosts’ from the Golden Triangle. Remember, don’t show any mercy. There are only six of them; we can’t leave a single one alive. Otherwise, not only will I not survive, but neither will you. Do you all understand?” Wang Guohua let out a sigh, glanced at their expressions, and continued, “I’ve said it before—once this is successful, everyone will benefit greatly. When I achieve great things, you’ll all rise to prominence too. I, Wang Guohua, have never deceived you. What I say, I’ll do!”
One man stepped forward and said loudly, “Boss, you don’t need to say more. With just one word from you, I’ll follow wherever you go!” The others also expressed their willingness to go. Wang Guohua looked at them, excited, and said, “Great! Good brothers! From now on, plenty of money awaits us to make!”
Seeing this, Xie Wendong still held some respect for Wang Guohua, given his exceptional ability to lead people.
Wang Guohua took out a black leather bag from the dance hall. Inside were pistols like the Type 54, knives, and two crude homemade submachine guns. He distributed the guns to his men, asking them to check them out. The men, familiar with such weapons, took them and loaded them with ammunition to test their performance.
Wang Guohua asked Xie Wendong, “Do your men need any weapons?”
Xie Wendong smiled and replied, “Thank you, Brother Wang. My men are already prepared!” He nodded at his own subordinates. Led by Jiang Sen, they all took out their weapons—pistols, daggers, and more.
Wang Guohua nodded with a smile, his respect for Xie Wendong’s strength growing even more. He gathered everyone together, placed a map in the middle, and explained the attack plan in detail before assigning roles. Once everything was arranged, he said, “One last thing—no one is allowed to leave alive! Let’s go now!”
A group of over twenty people left New Youth. It was just after 2 a.m., and the entire city was silent; even the vehicles on the roads were extremely rare. They got into the van that Wang Guohua had already arranged at the entrance and headed straight for the western suburbs.
Upon reaching the western suburbs, the area was even more desolate and quiet, with few people around and hardly any vehicles passing by. Of course, everyone was quite satisfied with this situation—perfect for killing in the darkness! Not far from the abandoned food factory, the car stopped. Everyone got out, drew their weapons, and without saying a word, followed the plan.
Jiang Sen nodded at Xie Wendong along with his men, then quietly moved around to the back of the factory, while Xie Wendong, Sanyan, Wenzi, and the others moved together with Wang Guohua. Having Xie Wendong by his side gave him some peace of mind. They approached the main gate and climbed over the side walls to enter.
The courtyard was silent, yet it exuded a thick atmosphere of death that made it hard to breathe. Wang Guohua disliked this feeling and looked at Xie Wendong worriedly. Xie Wendong, however, appeared calm, smiling and nodding at him. Slightly reassured, Wang Guohua led the way toward the factory building. The pitch-black iron door was tightly closed. Wang Guohua pushed it slowly with force, opening it just a crack to see that a large lock was in place inside.
Wang Guohua turned to signal the others to prepare for an attack, stepped back, and fired a shot at the door lock inside.
“Bang!” The loud noise echoed like a thunderclap in the quiet night, startling the sparrows resting in the trees, causing them to fly around chaotically. Without stopping, Wang Guohua pushed the door open wide, and his men rushed in with their guns. They were well-accustomed to the map and knew exactly where “Lao Gui” and the others were staying. They headed straight for the corner of the building.
Sure enough, it seemed there were people resting under blankets on the ground. Without hesitation, they raised their guns and fired wildly. Gunshots filled the air, and the blankets were riddled with holes.
Seeing the ambush succeed, Wang Guohua was overjoyed. He picked up his gun and joined in shooting. Turning to Xie Wendong, he said, “Brother, it worked!” But there was no sign of Xie Wendong and the other two—they had disappeared without a trace.
Wang Guohua suddenly sensed something was wrong and shouted at his men, “Stop! Stop shooting!”
Hearing the shout, they stopped firing and looked at him in confusion. Wang Guohua strode toward where “Lao Gui” and the others were resting and kicked aside the blankets. There were no people underneath—only old clothes, quilts, and other items. Wang Guohua’s head buzzed as he realized they had been tricked. He shouted, “Everyone, retreat! We’ve been fooled!” Then, ignoring everyone, he rushed toward the main gate.
Lately, it’s been hard to go out. Sanyan stood at the door, holding two guns, aiming at Wang Guohua who was running toward him. It was only then that Wang Guohua began to understand what was happening. Seeing Sanyan’s fierce gaze, his heart trembled. Without thinking, he raised his gun to shoot at Sanyan. But he was too slow. As he raised his gun, a gunshot came from Sanyan’s hand. The bullet penetrated his chest.
That gunshot served as a signal. Several people appeared around the factory, starting to massacre Wang Guohua’s men who were still standing there in shock. After just one round of gunfire, several people fell to the ground hit by bullets. The others finally woke up and tried to find cover, but there was no cover in the open factory, and more people collapsed one after another.
Jiang Sen, holding a gun in one hand and a dagger in the other, was at the forefront. Three of Wang Guohua’s men ran toward him, thinking he was one of their own, shouting, “Brother, it’s a trap! Run away…” Before they could finish speaking, Jiang Sen raised his gun and blew their heads off.
The other two stared in shock at Jiang Sen’s calmness. With a cold smile, Jiang Sen continued moving forward, firing another shot. One man’s mouth was wide open, with a round hole in his forehead. His eyes stared at Jiang Sen in utter disbelief, as if asking why.
The last man finally realized what was happening. Just as he raised his gun, Jiang Sen stepped beside him, wrapped an arm around his neck, and said, “Brother! I’m sorry!” At the same time, he stabbed the man in the heart with the dagger in his other hand. Blood gushed out from the dagger’s groove.
Jiang Sen, still holding his gun, went over to those who hadn’t died yet and shot them once more. He justified it in his mind: I’m doing a good deed! Ending their suffering quickly is like doing something as noble as being a doctor!
The more than ten so-called elite men brought by Wang Guohua all fell to the ground in no time.
“Old Ghost,” with blood on his face, walked toward the door, laughing loudly, “Wendong! Come out! It’s all taken care of! You’re such a coward—you run away as soon as fighting starts!”
“Haha!” Laughter came from behind the door. Xie Wendong walked out leisurely and said slowly, “I’m made of porcelain; how could I fight against earthen pots?” Holding a silver gun, he walked over to Wang Guohua, who was still alive, his body convulsing instinctively. With hatred in his eyes, Wang Guohua stared at Xie Wendong and asked, “W-why? Have I done anything wrong to you? Why kill me?”
Xie Wendong crouched down, looking at Wang Guohua with pity, and said slowly, “Brother Wang, you haven’t wronged me. But… you have to understand that this society is inherently a place where people devour each other, especially in the underworld. The fittest wins. Your mindset of relying on violence and courage to dominate the world is already outdated.”
Wang Guohua, unwilling to give up, said weakly, “You… you’ve been planning this against me all along, haven’t you?”
Xie Wendong nodded. There was nothing left to hide now. He smiled and said, “My motto is: kill anyone who gets in my way! I gave you a chance—offering two million for your New Youth, but you refused. So, I had no choice but to resort to this extreme measure. I’ve made my point clearly. I hope you can go in peace!”
Wang Guohua was filled with reluctance to leave this world. He still had millions in assets and countless lovers. Thinking about dying like this, tears streamed down his face. Finally, he said fiercely, “Xie Wendong! You’re ruthless and cunning! But what you’ve done today will ensure you can never settle in City H again!”
Xie Wendong had considered this. It was precisely because of this that he had gone to such great lengths to get rid of Wang Guohua. He laughed loudly, “No one will know it was me who killed you. By tomorrow, rumors will spread in the underworld: Wang Guohua tried to scheme against the old boss of the Golden Triangle but was killed instead! Haha, Brother Wang, why worry about worldly matters when you’re about to die?” With that, Xie Wendong pressed the gun against Wang Guohua’s head.
